Small people with small minds are jealous of people who have a dream. I hope you never give up on your dream for you has made it come true thus far and in doing so you have given other people dreams, as you know, I stayed in Praia Mara last summer to get my citizenship, and I could not have done it without you and Pete thank you for all you have done and all the education you have given for basically free that would otherwise cost a fortune

This person doing this to you guys, all I have to say to them is, “Shame on you! How could you! You should be a shamed of yourself!” Yes I said it. I hope they are watching. You need to horn them as my Italian grandmother used to say. The thing they do with their fingers to keep evil away. We are still coming to visit the area come hell or high water! this one person is not going to stop what has been started.

Wow! I am sad today to hear this. You and Pete played a big part having us come over to Italy for the first time. Even though we did not get to meet you when we were there we stood, ate, shopped and enjoyed the commune and it all felt familiar because of you. I believe this moment will pass and you will continue to help this commune and the regions with the work you do. You both are in the business of "Making people Happy" THANK YOU for what you have done and thank you for you. Your channel will keep growing and more of us will continue to come because of you. I bought your olive oil course and your property purchase course already. One day I will come and purchase a home in your area because of what you do. God bless you both always. We love you guys. and Gigi too :) 😍

I would not even know about that particular region of Italy if it had not been for your channel. Your grace and ease bring trust, light, and security to all who follow your work . I hope this is not the end of your work there. I intend to come buy a property in the region. Honestly, I feel you are the solid rock of security for me and many others to believe it is possible. I hope this is just a small hiccup and that you are not leaving. Whatever you decide, I will follow your channel. I became aware of SDT & the surrounding area precisely because of your channel. Besides showing properties, you illustrate the beautiful way of life that still exists & that many of us have never experienced. Because of what I saw on your channel, I visited (with a friend) 4 months ago. We would've done the usual Rome, Venice, Tuscany route if not for you. Instead we spent 2 weeks in SDT, Scalea, Belvedere Marittimo, Diamante & Tropea. I fell in love with Italy, the warm, generous Italian people, the way of life, the church bells, the food (my goodness, THE FOOD!), the coastal views, traveling by train. None of that would be on my radar without you & Pete. While I don't know the specifics, I can see this current situation is hurting your heart because you love the area & the people & have given so much of yourselves to it. Please know that many of us will be forever grateful to you & Pete for introducing us to the beauty of southern Italy. 💚🤍❤

Hi Chris. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful part of Italy with us all. We would never had thought to completely change our life in North Carolina and move to Italy if it wasn’t for your videos and the beauty of Santa Domenica Talao. I hope people watching understand these are not investment properties to “flip” but a new home to live in for the rest of our days. It’s too bad really, as all you guys have ever done is shown the world what a beautiful place SDT is and what beautiful people live there. Sorry you feel the need to defend what you have done for the village. My unsolicited advice is don't let the few spoil for the many - ignore them if you can. EVERYONE in Italy and worldwide knows Italy's historic villages are dying (and same as what's been happening in the US and many other western democracies where cities are the preferred places to live and work). But there will always be those who fear change. I think of the African immigrants there and how they are being treated .......as a first gen Italian -American knowing what my parents had to endure when they came to America in the 1950's, it makes me sick to know that if I were to return to the homeland, I would still be treated as an outsider by some even though I qualify for Italian citizenship. It's sadly human nature. Hell, when I thought I was going to buy a coop in Brooklyn, I was treated like a foreigner by a few weirdos....and I was from the BRONX just up the road....all I can say is FUGHEDDABOUDIT and best wishes.. I hope they don't drive you out.

BRAVO Chris, for all you have done for the villiage and the area. It had been exciting and it just hurts my soul to hear that it won’t continue on this way , especially if some have made it feel unwelcome.
Which is hard to imagine, and I’m sure its only the very, very few.
Thank you so much for all you have done, I feel so fortunate to have been one of the lucky ones that benefited from your knowledge, your kindness and your crazy enthusiasm. Although I happened to buy outside of SDT, it is and always will be close to my heart.

It's very sad what you guys went through. Unfortunately there are some individuals in Santa Dominica Talao who don't like the American Expats. To make a long story short, In December we were treated to lunch by our realtor; at the local restaurant in Santa Dominica Talao.
We were there to celebrate the start of the purchase process.
There were a couple of individuals( one was an employee) who were asking the realtor and geometra, whether or not we were buying in Santa Dominica Talao . They were relieved to find out that we were buying in Scalea , stating that there were enough Americans there. Little did they know that I , being an Italian Dual Citizen, with a good understanding of the language; understood exactly what they were saying.

@@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC It was an older woman with short hair who acted alright to us but like I said, she and a patron had that conversation with the realtor and geometra. As a matter of fact, when she discovered that I was speaking Italian, I'm assuming she felt awkward because she disappeared and a young girl waited on our table for the rest of the time we were there. I'm not making any of this up.
When the geometra informed her that we were buying in Scalea, she was very relieved and shouted, " Basta!'( referring to the American influx to the town)

    • @vincent4810
      @vincent4810 ปีที่แล้ว

@@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC I'm not 100% sure..The restaurant was supposed to be Wilma's BNB. That's what we were told, where they were taking us. ( The day before) I don't remember the name. There was a big Georgia Meloni poster outside, right next to it; to the left of the entrance. Where the poster was, looked like a campaign headquarters. The poster had her smiling holding a sign saying, "Grazie Italia". I found it interesting and took a picture of it. I wasn't aware of other restaurants in Santa Dominica Talao. I never spent any time there. Just drove through last April and decided it wasn't for us. I don't think it's a good idea to mention the realtor or surveyor in a public forum. It's awkward for them too. I don't want them angry with me. They've been pretty good to us and I'm considering buying more investment properties in the area. I'd be okay to tell you privately because again, I'm telling the truth. That being said, I'm sure you can figure it all out, with the information I gave you. If not, I'd be happy to fill you in privately.

It’s too bad the realtor didn’t remind that person that it is the influx of foreign money that keeps them working.
This is unbelievably common everywhere. It is no different than the “ they are taking our jobs” bs that we hear in North America.
I was in Turkey a few years ago and heard a lot of locals talking about how the foreigners were buying up the affordable housing. Some of that housing ( like in Italy) had either been abandon for decades or needed extensive repairs… siigghhh…. We just can’t seem to get out of our own way.

For all the good you’ve done, there are factions of people that don’t get it. Your video is very compelling to a North American, but to Italians they expect the state to find money and keep things moving. It is all very true! Perspectives may very well be different for everyone, and that would apply to basically anywhere in time and space. Throughout history an intolerance towards change and the fear that comes with it, actually, has proven to be beneficial and rewarding, when observed objectively over a span of time. I actually am here, I talk to locals every day. Chris is surely sincere, referring to the inviting "temperature" of the community! To put math in perspective, our town's butcher shop, Roco's family, can again keep the shop open and full of goods. Even thoughts of expanding! I’m so sorry to hear things are so difficult for you ( although I don’t know the specifics) I experienced a similar situation when I lived 8 years in a rural community and build a learning center that was for children, teacher training and community development. In all 8 years I never took a salary and build the center with my own money. I did take fees for the programs but 100% went back into the center or into the community. Once it got up and running and was successful I had many village members accused me of exploiting them and getting rich off them ( remember how I said I used my own money and took zero salary 🙄)
    I was devastated and heartbroken.
After being too tired to fight and defend myself I thought “ f**k you all” I closed the center and walked away. It has been 10 years since then and I still get people asking me to return saying that so many people had benefited from the programs. I’m mostly over it but I cannot for the life of me understand why the rest of the community didn’t stand up for me!

Hi Jenny, I am so, so sorry. Your situation is heartbreaking. We have had support from our neighbors. The vast majority are wonderful people and really have acknowledged what we have done for our town. And that is great but we don't make hardly anything, certainly not enough for 24/7 security. We have spent far more than we ever made. It was a labor of love but at what cost? Thank you for your comment here and thank you for all you do because I know someone like you never stops helping others. Please feel free to email me. I think we are kindred spirits.

Love your channel. This video came off like reading a random note. You shouldn’t have to explain yourself and the great work you do to anyone. I’m sorry to hear you are getting grief for bringing life and money to the area and improving everyone’s quality of life. I do worry about your safety though after the car incident. There’s just a few jealous simple minded people that are doing this I suspect. They are just shooting themselves in the foot long run. There’s a lot of old school beliefs and people hold grudges for eons. ( I have Italian friends and they can’t let things go even 30 years later ) I hope you can continue to have a good quality of life even if it’s not there. 💚 from 🇨🇦

Hi and thank you for writing. All it takes is one person to destroy things for everyone else. The locals here have been amazing and we love them forever but again, all it takes is one person.

Do you highlight properties in other areas of Calabria. My sister's house will be put up for sale in Castrolibero (CS). It is a beautiful house, but is not an historic residence.

I would like to buy a house in Italy. I'm a single women and don't just something clean and in a safe area.
I can spend up to 80,000 but I don't need a big place. I need heat and clean and some a view and patio.

Chris, Everything you’ve said I’ve pretty much known. Your light and energy attract like minded people and it spreads like wildfire. But, now, I’m even more confused and concerned for you all, wondering why you are going to such an extent to defend yourselves. It sounds like a sick minded individual with bad blood is relentlessly pursuing you. When will this end?!

Don't take SDT off of your radar, it's a great town, with great people and great properties. However, sometimes people with the greatest intentions can offend others without even realizing it. I know of dozens of people who became very upset when a message was sent suggesting SDT was a dangerous place, as all of these locals and expat property owners vehemently disagreed. The best thing to do is for you to come and see for yourself.
