I had to watch this highlight video just to remind myself just has super fast Tony Dorsett was. Amazing/lightning speed. I couldn’t have been more than 10 or 11 years old watching this man at home on Sunday afternoons. I appreciate his speed, & contribution to the NFL way more now than back then. I salute U TD!! 🫡

Tony Dorsett is my favorite running back ever. No running back hit the hole with speed and acceleration like he did. Its ridiculous how underated he is. Heisman Trophy winner also. And im not a cowboys fan, I love the Colts. Thats how special he is to me. Love you TD. One more thing take a look at all the long runs he had in his career, just running by the defense.

      @@garymayfield5995 No Problem.
Just in Speed alone. Here is a list of RBs who ran faster than Dorsett:
      Jeff Demps
      Curtis Dickey
      Sultan McCullough
      Michael Bennett
      Herschel Walker
      Jamaal Charles
      Raheem Mostert

      Joe Delaney
      Dri Archer
      Adrian Peterson
Each one of these RBs have verified fully automatic timed 100m dashes faster than 10.57. Dorset ran a hand timed 100 yard dash in 9.57. That converts to about 10.71 fully automatic timed 100m dash. Some of those backs were on Dorsett's talent level.
Other backs who were, in my opinion, over Dorsett in talent level and ran faster:
Eric Dickerson 9.4 hand timed 100yds
OJ Simpson 9.5 hand timed 100yds.

Win the NCAA title, and win the Heisman. Then proceed to win NFL rookie of the year, win a Super Bowl, and get inducted into the Hall of Fame. As a long-time Redskins fan, I hated Tony Dorsett. The 'Skins would have a lead on the Cowboys, and suddenly Dorsett would break out for a large gain. Watching these highlights, one can see how hard it was to defend against him, because his moves were often instinctive -- and therefore unpredictable!
    Truly one of the greats!

Touchdown Tony did have that incredible burst of speed, especially between the tackles. He would burst past lbs before they could shed blocks; and if safeties were split too wide , neither could cut him off. Those diving missed tackle attempts. Once he ran over a Ram db at the goal line after crossing pattern reception. Nite-nite, db was out cold, got hit by a speeding bullet.

There’s my favorite cowboys receiver blocking downfield #88 Drew Pearson! I used to see him make those one handed sideline catches and then go try to emulate him after the game! Out in the front yard trying to do the same thing!

Why not make it an even ten? throw in Thurman Thomas, O.J. Simpson, and Marshall Faulk. Hell you could even add Chuck Foreman or O.J. Anderson.

Something few people think to mention is that Dorsett had an aesthetically beautiful running style to watch. He just looked smooth, fast, and cool. Many backs are certainly effective, but do not look as lovely doing it as did Tony Dorsett (or Eric Dickerson). It's not the most important thing, but it's one aspect.

This guy won at all levels, from High School to the University of Pitt, HT winner, first year with the Cowboys, rookie of the year and Superbowl Champion. Those two Falcon defenders realize they took very bad angles and had an "Oh Shit" moment when they realized he was that fast!

Was Dorsett & Walker the fastest backfield ever?

  • @steelhere5519
    @steelhere5519 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, Tony Dorsett is one of the greatest running backs ever. However, people need to remember just how good the Cowboys offensive line was then and even during Emitt Smith's career. The offensive line has always been a staple for Dallas. Also, the highlight at 4:55, perfectly demonstrates how quickly Tony could accelerate.
