The history of Werder becoming a left leaning club is actually quite interesting. In the hayday of Hooliganism Werder was considered as one of the most right leaning clubs. Some of the neonazi hooligans were famous nationwide because they sung in a rock band called "Kategorie C". With the beginning of Ultra culture in the early 2000s hooliganism lost most of its support plus most of Werder hools had a Stadium ban anyway. Bremen being a trading hub/port City (same as Hamburg) ment it was (still is) very international. So Bremen always had a lot of Migrants (migrants in Germany are mostly left leaning). So a history of the club being troubled with rightwing extremism and a city which is left leaning anyway, Werder in general became a very left leaning club. The Ultras are from the city, so they are a bit more left than a lot of the rural fans from the agricultural northwest which is more conservative leaning. The friendship with St.Pauli is actually quite new although there might have been sympathies with them for a long time because of the rivalry to HSV. I never liked St.Pauli because they always seemed too obsessed with displaying their political views but i can understand why a lot of Werder Fans (and the Ultras specifically) like them.
An interesting read thank you for that 😊👍🏾 yeah I like St. Pauli but I’m very much against pushing politics too much in football - in my opinion football should be an ESCAPE from the troubles of everyday life - a way to forget for 90mins and just focus on the beautiful game 🤩
Bremen and HSV are big rivals. So naturally we love their Cityrival ;) and yeah, Werder and the City of Bremen and St.Pauli are generally more left leaning and liberal. Greetings from Bremen
That museum layout looks so fascinating with just the aesthetics alone. Looks like modern art or something. Really interesting stadium. Love the floodlights.

There is a close bond between Werder and St. Pauli, and as you said, the hate against the HSV unites us. And yeah, some ultra-groups of Werder share a friendship to the leading ultras of St. Pauli. Internationalism really shaped the cities, and this friendship is further encouraged with the HSV ultras leaning more right than Werder and St. Pauli.
@realjetbar3331 Then everyone is right. Is the green party leaning to the right because they are not as left (what does that even mean?) as Die Linke. Sorry, that's a bullshit argument. I know especially people from the former groups of Chosen Few and Poptown, and they are the opposite of right.
Funny how while you talk about the political similarities between Werder and St. Pauli, just before the segment about the friendship of the two clubs, you can already see "FCSP x SVW (FC Sankt Pauli x SV Werder)" on the graffiti in the background. (1:48) Videographic masterclass ^^
🟤⚪🟢✌ even though the old away section at the Weserstadion was the worst one I have ever been to, thankfully that has changed now...looking forward to the game against our friends in Bremen :)
@@RysFootyParadise In regards to the upcoming games definitely. The last time St. Pauli and Bremen played was in the 2. Bundesliga some years back, that was already great and had people from both clubs come together at various venues on matchday. Now with both teams being in the Bundesliga and HSV still in the second division things have become even better 🥳
@@RysFootyParadise Also because I just thought of it and wanted to share in case you are interested in some St. Pauli-Bremen-related trivia: Apart from the current mutual sympathy between (bigger parts of) both fanbases there is also a specific game against Werder Bremen that is memorable for somewhat older fans of St. Pauli. In 2007 we had been in the third division for some tough years already, which back then was nowhere near as interesting as today and even rougher financially, with us barely escaping bancruptcy a few years prior. Then in 06--07 we played so well that we got in reach of promotion. Near the end of the season we played our away game in Bremen (against Werders second team), resulting in a win and us getting into first place for the first time that year. The game was played on a Tuesday evening with more than 8.000 St. Pauli fans travelling to Bremen, while the rest of the Weserstadion was almost completely empty. A bit surreal, but the euphoria of that game carried us to our promotion some weeks later 😄 Top 5 football-related memory for me
The floodlights are a signature of the Weserstadium. It’s a heritage from the old stadium. Werder and St.Pauli are both clubs known for their very strong position for tolerance and against any kind of discrimination. And both are connected by the rivalry with Hamburger SV
Very interesting history about this team German teams have a deep-rooted foundation with the people and areas also Bremen is a liberal foothold and that is reflecting the graffiti on the outside of the stadium 😀

Funnily enough you say about yourself that you don't like politics in football (which is fine), but then call RB Leipzig an energy drink club which is completely political. Maybe it's not that simple ;) great video anyways
As for the politics of Werder Bremen, the City of Bremen where one part of the fanbase comes from is pretty left wing in general. Especially the University of Bremen. However the surrounding areas, where the other part of the fanbase comes from, are more rural-ish and conservative. I'm a local from the area and thus a Bremen fan (my "true" home-city team plays in the 5th tier of German football) however i do not share the friendship some parts of the Werder fanbase have with St. Pauli. The Ultras do not speak for the entirety of the fans. Though the political messaging of the club is still at a bearable level. At least compared to clubs like St. Pauli who's entire identity seems to revolve around politics, not football.
