I feel like TFP are suffering pretentious delusions. When I first bought the game it was janky, ugly, derivative but very fun. The game LOOKED fine back on A13, 8 years ago. I wish they'd just developed content and optimised then left it. SO much time wasted updating the looks and developing some whacky, fallout 4-esque style for a game that still gives you nothing to do once you get up the tech tree.
the fun pimps deserve to cash grab in non sleezy way. like you pointed out they've been giving us tons of content for years already for free, and have even been working hand in hand close to the modding community for a LONG time as well to help give us bonus content in between major patches. imho they deserve to get paid they gave us a great game. i've been following 7d2d almost just as long as i've been following pz and glad to see 7d2d finally hitting release with even more content coming after.
"...switch to my mining suit and... wait, would you do that?" YES! Any other developer can tell you that. There are only two outcomes here: either players constantly switch outfits, sapping the fun out of the game if you don't have a wardrobe system, or they will just wear the theory crafted "best" outfit.
@@WaywardEko Agreed. Now I don't think it's going to be as bad if the player plans ahead (ex. puts their farmer outfit in a box next to their farm, and the lumberjack outfit next to a dedicated tree felling area), but if anyone played pre-A17 when we had to constantly switch out our leather duster and poncho, you'll know how tedious playing Barbie doll dress up can be. Using your miner gloves to get 5% more ore harvest is min maxing, like an Eye Kandy, but if it were 50%, that's almost a necessity to use them at that point.
@@DarkSunGameplay Very true, if the set bonuses are minor buffs like the candies then they can be ignored in favor of your preferred set, or if individual item pieces grant the stat buffs then mix and match.
For anyone who hasn't watched the full interview, rick didn't mean to say "Xbox Series X will be bottom spec." He came back later and corrected himself because he meant to say "Xbox Series S is the bottom spec." Hope this helps! Xbox Series X users dont worry!
What ??? Why would you recommend a Battle Pass are you insane? No one wants that. They are anti-consumer and mostly lead to developers milking their player base.
@@WaywardEko In my most humble opinion, it is a terrible idea to implement a season pass in a game like 7dtd for non content creator/regular players, but to each their own.
@@Youwillneverknow-w1g matters on how it is done. Games can easily add a battlepass and then the next season just mix all the new items into the loot pool that players can find/craft. Just because AAA games tend to do a BP poorly does not mean the idea cannot be done well.
@@deathfromace The fun Pimps are not known to be in a rush when it comes to development (It's constant but somehow slow, which is fine). What a pass does on top of what you mentioned, is take dev time away from anything else they could be making, such as meaningful DLC content for example. Instead, it's spent on cosmetics and other various simple things. I would prefer for actual content to be developed and added to the game, as fast as possible. Happy to pay for that each time too.
Yea as an og I hate everything about this. I've bought probably 20 copies of this game, I just buy it for everyone I know but the cost of a game plus bp fuck that. They wanna do a real solid make the og console f2p and they can add micro trans bs to that
If you want to understand my logic on why a season/battle pass would be good for the game and keep the community fresh ... here's why: th-cam.com/users/postUgkxZuZtnw7frIIM1EGBd2iwg7_q_baJc8qD
I'm not surprised the bandits get pushed back so much, my mind is racing with possibilities for how they could be implemented, and that's just a fraction of the effort it'd take to make it reality. They need to strike a proper balance between fitting with the style and tone, being distinct in approach from the zombies, and a unique challenge. I'm really curious to know how many iterations they've been testing, and what ideas have already been considered. Hopefully we get some behind the scenes when all is said and done.
The community is not well known for its patience. I'd rather TFP take all the time they need to get it up to the quality standard they've set for it than cave to "fan" impatience. Better to have something worth the wait than something half-a**ed.
@@lrinfi Couldn't agree more. We have enough devs releasing rushed projects as-is, it's good to have some in a position that lets them stick to their guns. Both metaphorically, and digitally.
I get the community frustration on the bandits specifically as they have been pushed now for I don't know how many alphas ... so it starts to become a credibility issue. Hoping they pushed it out far enough to give them ample time.
@@WaywardEko As someone who has played a heap of the overhaul mods, the bandits included in them... really don't work well, they look meh, they have 100% hit accuracy. They stand in the one spot and just jump up and down for no reason a lot of the time...So while people say "But mods have bandits in them!", they aren't great. I would muuuch rather TFP takes their time and gets them working well. And personally, I'd rather some more of the story before bandits. Shrugs.
@@RookieEyes22 This right here, I'd like the bandits to not only play well, but make the world more immersive. Zombies rely on raw numbers, so you mow them down by the hundreds, but bandits should come with unique challenges, and grow stronger as you progress. They have the potential to completely change the game in a great way, so it's important they aren't half-baked.
We won't know it's broken until we get to play 1.0 ... I mean it's 7dtd so some level of jank is guaranteed. On the seasonal content, I think it would keep players playing longer and build larger communities. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxZuZtnw7frIIM1EGBd2iwg7_q_baJc8qD
Take a look at my proposal ... it would shake things up and prolong community engagement to help stop the massive player drop off after each major release: th-cam.com/users/postUgkxZuZtnw7frIIM1EGBd2iwg7_q_baJc8qD
@@WaywardEko What is in your proposal that can't be done with game options now and, of course, either mods or purposeful avoidance for those options that aren't specifically covered in the menu, e.g. no electrical? GNS is doing a horde every night series right now in which each day's challenges/changes are represented on colored spinning wheels -- % block damage, headshots only, etc., etc. -- and Glock9 regularly does challenge runs with set rules of his own making to follow much like MATN's challenge runs of Fallout games. I'm not target audience for such "Let's Plays" because I'd rather play a game than watch someone else play it, though I do like to see how other people are playing it at times. I've never seen a game with so many built in options for playing it in as many different ways as you like. Battle passes; seasons; events. Those are precisely the predatory, exploitative "features" of "live service" games most of us here are purposefully avoiding and, even, boycotting. You want to turn 7DTD into a live service game? Well, the live service financial bubble burst, thank God. There's a silver lining of hope that predatory practices such as these will come to an end -- one way or another -- and our hobby might actually be returned to a state we can blissfully enjoy without having to think twice about it. As it is, we're having to consciously defend ourselves against practices such as these, especially in the triple A space, which is why many of us are here for this game: it doesn't engage in them...yet. From the way things are going, I gather it shortly will -- at prominent players' urging, no less -- and, *if* it does, I'll be out of here and counseling everyone who values my counsel *not* to buy the game.
@@WaywardEko "The gameplay loop on 7 Days to Day gets stale." -- Of course it does, especially since the questionable decision was made to make every, single POI play exactly the same way and bs trader odd jobs are the only structured content in it, atm. My, but that does get pretty boring pretty quickly. But that's okay. There is no game in existence in which the "gameplay loop" doesn't get boring and it's perfectly okay to take a break from it when it does. Naturally, the gameplay loop -- a term I don't particularly like myself -- is not all there is to any game. 7 Days could definitely have much more going for it than it does at present and it may yet in future, but I've enjoyed just taking in the artistry at work in the architecture of the POIs; testing the game's parameters to see what works and what doesn't; etc. Some of us enjoy playing games organically as opposed to min-maxing and so forth as GNS and others do and 7 Days doesn't make that easy with its ever-increasing insistence that it be played a certain way, though that can be ignored to a certain extent. There are so many things I dislike about this game, it's unreal, but I've put up with them because I wholeheartedly support any and all defiance of industry shenanigans. I hope I can just as wholeheartedly support it in the future.
@@lrinfi Exactly this. It's ludicrous that anyone would push for battlepass, especially someone that actually can have a dialogue with the devs. Not only is it predatory but saying "Man, the gameplay loop is boring---I know what would make it more fun! An arbitrary time-restricted unlock system I have to pay for and possibly miss out on time exclusive items!" That makes zero sense to say the gameplay loop is boring, and what would make it fun is something that preys on fear of missing out and bilks more cash from people. Expansions? Great, sign me up. Rimworld shows expansions are fun. Small DLC's with content? Eh...okay, but I'd hope for something more substantial. Fortnite battlepass garbage? No. It's a trend that if we keep paying for will only escalate.
i didnt hear anywhere talking about improved sounds , original tracks and better audio of the game at all.. I wish there was background sounds like wildlife, zombies screaming somewhere distant, your character making sounds when get hit or running or etc, new guns sounds, new weather sounds, new vehicle sounds... Main menu music ... that something they should work up too! Overall 7 days is one of my favourite games from years, shortly after it released in alpha 01 and compared to minecraft at the time it was so much more dangerous and made more sense to me, having the zombies destroying your houses and you had to protect yourselfs rather than building mud house on day one and be good ... OOhh and also can we get some boss zombies in some quest type or at the end of POI !! Also please bring back the zombie dead body looting system!
Funny you should bring up sounds. Just yesterday I was laughing at how it is my avatar's footstep sounds *inside* a building were the same sounds playing as he was walking across snow. Of course, there wasn't any snow in the building and it never ceases to amaze how many players are clamoring for new features when even the most basic of basics haven't been locked down.
Yeah, some of the boss-style zombies in mods are great and would certainly add to the base game. Also, oh boy I wish they would change the menu music, I always have it muted now because it's so repetitive. And don't get me started on the mini bike sound!
@@rubikmonat6589 they're so obnoxious and over the top. i hate having my in game ambient volume so low, but if i don't - it sounds like i'm watching a reality TV special where in order to feign "suspense" they keep playing the same dumb bowed saw sample over and over
Yeah -- I can't handle the existing sounds ... I have them all turned down and the dynamic music turned off ... cause otherwise recording would be nightmare.
I hope TFP buy out the larger overhaul mods. That or sell them and offer profitshare. Creators like khaine have really kept this game alive with overhauls like Darkness Falls.
Why would you want to kill the modding scene? It's the only thing keeping the game going since they fix what TFP changes that players hate every update
@@WaywardEko i think it depends, the devil is in the details. Something like how various bethesda games handle mods is fine with me. The one thing you guys are missing is that the way mods are installed is difficult for people. I'd rather there be a button in the game and the overhauls just be an option. I'm not suggesting removing mods or modding. Just a way to honor the major modders.
@@brianm.595 Bethesda are infamous for treating their modders like dirt. Dev managed mods have always been bare bones and never update. Best we can hope for is a workshop.
No way! Mudding is what keeps this game alive! I happily play an older version just so I can play undead legacy and Rebirth. The modders fix what TFP mess up like getting rid of learn by doing.
Biggest thing im concerned of post 1.0 is with any future updates, will my saves finally be stable? Or am i still gonna have to restart my world every damn update? That's my biggest gripe about this game. Every update has forced me to restart. Also, i wonder if the prospect of infinite worlds would ever be possible, even if its through mods...
So I asked about this in the dev diaries .... Fatal (TFP Dev) said the intent is that after the 1.0 jump that saves would persist through any new content drops ... that said, we'll have to see that happen first.
Consoles don't allow save breaking updates so if they plan to keep parity with those versions I'd say it's safe to assume that updates will be saved safe from now on.
Someone did -- I don't know them well enough to know just by voice honestly. I tried to collectively refer to them as the Neeb's crew for that very reason :)
A few thoughts: I would point to any other game that has set items. Either the game is balanced around them, which punishes players not using them. Or they are useless aside from niche cases. As such I am not really keen on set armours. With the track record for adding content, the road map is a nice thought. I have my doubts about them sticking to it. Will I play a game or 2 of 1.0? Sure, but odds are it goes on the back burner until my favorite mods gets updated
I always thought it would be super cool if they made a sequel to have it set in a big city setting, possibly east coast. More danger, less driving from town to town. And maybe use an engine like unreal engine for good optimization and ease of updates/changes.
Yet to hear if / how they address the progression system of crafted items vs just operating out of the wasteland biome and getting better gear then you can craft.
Rick talked to this in regards to the weather/biome changes coming. The intent is making the wasteland untenable without the right gear. You will need gear protections to persist there.
"would you do that?" -checks my inventory of a revolver i never use, nerdy glasses, cigar- -checks truck inventory of multiple outfits for various tasks- It's not a "would you" situation, we've been doing this for YEARS
Hey Eko short question: in the 1.0 trailer at 1:10, that POI progression into a fortress. Would you be willing to make a series of converting POIs like this? with like 2 to 4 stages of progression?
my theory still goes as this: they have spent too long reinventing the wheel over and over again trying to chase trends rather than making the game they initially sold us. this has lead to nearly running out of money. so now they are rushing to put out 1.0. sony is the biggest console platform and they do not have an early access program like xbox does, so the only way to sell the game there is to release a 1.0 version. that'll get them the cash influx they need to actually finish the game. it's also why they only recently stopped selling the old version on consoles. they've known for awhile they wouldn't be able to upgrade the old version, but instead of delisting it as soon as they knew, they kept selling it with zero indications on the store page that it wasn't going to get any new updates. it's also why the story mode won't even be there at launch. frankly the only reason i even still play is down to great mods, my favorite being undead legacy.
So I've still no answer to my question wich I posted below so many videos - will console version have Dishong and Higashi and the like? Never saw any of the tall buildings in console footage.
problem i have with this game that causes it to plateau in terms of sandbox potential is that the ai is so smart that it actually has the reverse effect and becomes dumb. No creativity in bases past the first few learning stages of the game, as once you know that the zombies will ALWAYS target the closest weak spot to their location makes them exceptionally predictable and boring enemies rather quickly. You only serve to punish yourself by not making an atleast somewhat "meta" base with trapdoors/narrow walkways.
@@WaywardEko You make some great points actually. I might actually enjoy a feature similar to the battle pass. Personally I just don't want 7 days to die to turn into a cash cow which is kind of what happens when most games add a battle pass. If it is a free feature then it definitely would be interesting to see how it would implement into the game. I guess I just didn't consider some things. Keep up the content man. I really do enjoy your stuff. And I apologize for being so harsh I just don't want to see my favorite game become garbage.
9:10 Sony hates mods. Microsoft does allow them but they are still cautious. Rarely any games on either have them. My main two examples are Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Neither have the same level of mods as PC, but Xbox has more mods then the PS version, as PS doesn’t really allow mods to add new content, only let them use things in the base game.
You can't compare a behemoth like Bethesda to TFP ... they are working on a whole other level. With extended staff I think TFP has around 60 people. Bethesda is >400.
On the console thing. Telltale went down in October 2018. In October 2019, The Fun Pimps made a post in their website (still up, you can check) saying they got the rights back. So when he says he didn't know for a year and a half, he means less than a year. And also, when any company files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, it is costumary for its assets to go on auction, so the concept that they just had no idea if they would ever get their rights back is silly. It was obvious from the get go they had a pretty good chance to get the console rights back. Now he's saying that the reason they didn't do it was because they spent part of that year restructuring to focus on PC. But a) that's not the reason they gave back then. They said they didn't want to spend the money. But more important, b) THAT WAS FIVE YEARS AGO. If it took a year to restructure out of console, surely you could get back into it in less than five years. SURELY. This feels like relitigating the past. The truth is likely the first excuse they gave us: It was expensive and they didn't want to spend the money to deliver what was promised. Now that they're aiming for microtransations, increasing their playerbase sounds more profitable.
It's simple business ... they lost rights ... made architectural changes to the code base that made it non-viable for console ... and by the time they got the rights back, there was no way consoles could support the changes made to the PC version.
@@WaywardEko I mean, they made changes in like eight months that couldn't be undo for FIVE YEARS? And they just chose to keep that a secret until now? Does that sound believable?
Do you work in software development? Eight months of changes heading in a direction can easily taking much longer to undo ... because you start basing future decisions on it. It sounds believable that you look at the math and decide it doesn't make sense ... especially paired with the realization that old gen consoles simply don't have the RAM needed to run this game properly. Hell ... with their lack of optimization, tricked out PC rigs still struggle at times.
@@WaywardEko "Because you start basing future decisions on it" is pretty funny. So what you're saying is that BEFORE Telltale fell apart they had a five year plan to keep the games on console, and then after Telltale fell apart and they IMMEDIATELY, in a matter of months, change their architecture and plan for the game to not fit the consoles. And then a year later they get the rights back and it's just IMPOSSIBLE to make any changes in time? You see the problem with the argument? The story involes them ALREADY MAKING A CHANGE. We know how long this kind of change would theoretically take them: Less than a year. How do we know that? Because that's how long the story says they did it in! And then you have to believe that the change is both possible in a few month AND impossible in a few years. It just doesn't hold water. And it still has the problem that in 2019 they flat out told us it was because of money. No story about having a different architecture at all. Why would they lie in 2019? How does it benefit them to pretend it was for the money when they had a better excuse? As for the previous gen... The game runs on the Series S. The current console versions are all gonna be held back by the shitty little console that pretends it's new gen. Had they been updating the old versions for five years, they definitely could have been optmizing for them over time. It's always about the money. Making updates on the console version would have cost them money. Now that they have microtransactions and maybe a Battlepass coming, increasing their player base will give them more money, so they're willing to spend the money now that it benefits them. They made a bad business decision (working with Telltale) and when it exploded they shunted the cost onto the consumer. They sold a game as Early Acess and then when it's done they are selling again it. And the fact the fans with a voice aren't complaining about it, and are in fact defending that, is the reason they feel confortable doing it.
If the armor system is built so that you can carry all the armor you collect, set up armor sets, and swap them at the touch of a button to pick which bonuses you want to use, then how is that any different than the bonuses you get from collectible books right now? The sets are targeted to different activities, so it's not like someone having their farming bonus active at the same time as their heavy armor bonuses is going to be a big advantage. The only real difference at that point is extra micromanagement of setting up armor sets & remembering them to change them. If they want armor bonuses to be meaningful, there has to be enough of a resource cost & inventory space penalty that you *can't* just easily carry all of them and swap them out easily. And personally, that kind of specialization mandate doesn't sound fun to me.
To some of you complaining thinking that Fun Pimps will be making the battlepass like most AAA games. You need to think about games like Deep Rock Galactic, Among Us and Most importantly Warframe. These BP systems are 100% free and can be gained online or offline (Deep Rock) If you guys really have no hope and think that Fun Pimps is going to make this a Paid Battlepass (Hopefully not), we will just have to wait and see instead of moaning and thinking this is a AAA game company like Ubisoft, Activision or Blizzard
You asked about going 1.0 and the communities worry about them stopping to update...the fact he can't say with a straight face: That is not the case That to me is worrying. He says ''I think those are just rumors'' MEANING HE HAS NO IDEA W...T....F
Mmm can I ask: are yall happy with this interview? Did we get any... really exciting news? Is THE MONUMENTAL 1.0 release getting you excited at all? Can it do that for anyone? I just am so dissappointed how this game is developing... the roadmap makes me sad, not happy and excited. Its a GAME, but I think theyre only basically "patching a product" to get its flaws fixed and to optimize it. We barely had any new features that influence the player in their actual PLAYTHROUGHS of the game, right? Were all playing the same game for like... 3 years now? They had some overhauls to systems, like the magazine-reading, but that REPLACED something. It took away just as much from my gameplay as it added. That makes it difficult to just "like" it, because maybe, just maybe you enjoyed the system as it was.... and now they just keep doing that again and again... we had the doors and trapdoors REWORKED or redesigned... now we get an OVERHAUL to the visuals of animals... and the player model.... while taking away the old versions.... the armor system is a REPLACEMENT.... etc... Wouldnt it be... just SO good... if theyd sprinkle in some completely new... flatout ADDITIONS with every update? I could immediately get behind that and be excited to play again! ONE new zombie type! HELL YEA, thats enough to get me playing! Is that really so hard to implement? A completely new... perk? A new... animal? I always thought they would add SO many more zombies or animals with unique quirks... ways we have to PLAY around, redesign our defences for... stuff like boss-zombies as rare spawns... etc... real, new GAME-ELEMENTS.... Do they maybe think or have someone at their company who thinks everything they push out to their live-game now, has to be like... super polished? "balanced" even? the community NEVER had that demand! It is... or was.... an ALPHA GAME. Just GIVE US THE Bandits in their current state! Let us TALK about it, try it out! Give feedback! See how it feels! Theyre not even USING the community-feedback that an Alpha can provide! It feels like they want us to be grateful to be entitled to get to play their current gamestates... Why was this handled that way... I am very sad to see this state of the game going "1.0"... so many features are just not... a thing yet and are not mentioned in the roadmap. The water-system overhaul for example? Where is that? Whats happening with that? Sure I am down to HOPE, that it comes along with one of those roadmap-steps, but if you consider that a SINGLE "NEW QUESTING TYPE"... is SUCH a big DEAL, that they specifically list it in the upcoming features... then im not sure if they have ANYTHING in their backpockets as suprises... They didnt name water-rework as part of the weather-rework either, when they talked about that. Obviously would love to hear some uplifting different perspectives on this... I dont want to "hate" on what theyre doing btw, pls dont mistake my dissappointment for ungratefulness, hate or something like that. I just wanted to type about what I am missing. And thankyou for the recap Eko.
Only way I can see battlepass could work in survial games is if they work like warbonds in Helldivers.. Not timegates the way if you are busy with work you loose the loot kind of bs. But always open just need to buy your way into them. But would also force the game to be online only. For a game you can play single player that is a big down if you are still forced to have internet. I would much rather have it just be DLC's and have the option of staying offline for vacation playing.
16:44 "12+ years of updates for free" no they're finishing a product customers have paid for, kudos to them for actually finishing it, but those updates weren't "free"
Helldivers has the "battle pass" on point. No time frame and you dont need to spend a dollar in order to collect them all. 7 days will go with a cod route i bet
There aren't setting that do that now. Traders are busted. Quest rewards, trader stage, and loot stage cannot be adjusted in settings. Those are all hard coded in the XML.
Yeah, no matter how much devs they brought in, if there is still major content missing it´s not a real 1.0. It´s a relabeling. You can´t sugarcoat that.
I suspect it was necessary to placate console manufacturer execs, else they would still be calling it alpha 22. I don't imagine Sony/Xbox wants another Telltale incident on its hands any more than TFP do, so it's technically being released for console as a "new" game despite that it's neither a new or finished game by any stretch of the imagination. I'm glad they found a way finally to get the same version PC players are playing to console players and synced up with one another despite that Sony/MS will want Playstation/Xbox users to pay full price for it. Fingers crossed TFP get their wish of, at least, a discount for console players. I'm sure they'd just as soon it could be released free for current console players, same as PC. Unfortunately, they don't get to make that decision alone. Sony and MS are involved. Their platforms; their rules.
@@lrinfi It couild also be that they need money. The majority of sales was years ago. They hired UE5 programmers for the new game they work on a while ago already. They need to pay Studio Illogica to develop Bloodmoons. And you can´t charge 45$ for early access.
@@WaywardEko Even then it´s just a label. This was planned and announced as Alpha 22 for the whole time and just now shortly before it releases they changed it. We would have gotten the exact same update if this would still be called A22...
I think a battle pass would hurt the game especially if its something like fortnite has with it being limited time. Something like the warbonds from helldivers wouldn't be to bad still a little cheeky for a 10 year old game in my opinion.

I will never understand why theyre so secretive. Tell the fans what they plan on doing to make us excited! But they prolly know (from 10 years experience) a lot of it fans wont like or would be flooded tmwith questions and suggestions.
100% with you on this one ... also because they aren't in tune with the player base ... I feel like they leave out a lot of good stuff and instead talk about stuff that they think is important.
season and battle pass? So it's going to be like other games with paywalls and pay to win features where people who can afford to pay get a walk in the park while those who don't or can't get the passes struggle? I avoid games like that on purpose because I find that practice disgusting. its a system that rewards the rich and punishes the poor. I'll have to find a different zombie survival game to play if that's the way 7 days is going to go.
I play a bunch of games that have affordable season/battle passes that are cosmetic only ... where you pay $10 for a season and typically have the ability to earn the next season pass over the course of the season so you only pay once. I also believe seasonal play would give a way to regularly mix up the meta.
@@WaywardEko "typically have the ability to earn' -- So, would it be safe to say you approve of pointless, never-ending grind for the sake of never-ending grind? And microtransactions, of course.
The whole "not changing development style" being a rumor is so sad. I'm tired of seeing the fun get removed from the game and idk how people can be so hopeful for this. This game had so much more promise that they've squandered by simply reworking and ruining systems in the game that players loved and dumbing everything down to the point that there's 1 "Correct" playstyle or you suffer needlessly.... This game is becoming another "reinstall when REAL 1.0 happens and see if things have improved" rather than "What new fun content and mechanics did we get this time?" (I do WANT to be hopeful for this game however the "unfunpimps", as they seem to have be named by the community, make it hard)
I'm viewing 1.0 as a stabilization release. It does lack a lot of the features we have seen from past releases and am hoping that we get a lot if performance since they are re-onboarding the console.
Unless they handle a battlepass like DRG it will upset alot of the community I hate battlepasses that add things to games only for them to go away with no chance to add them. Also personal opinion is that this kind of game cannot support a battlepass it would be much better to sell small 10 dollar dlc cosmetics instead
So hear me out on this ... pitched this to Rick before ... but if we had a seasons mode (in addition to normal play) with different parameters it would be insanely fun ... think one season you have no electrical ... or zombies do 2x block damage ... or traders are more expensive ... basically ANYTHING that made us play the game in a different and new fashion. Also something to shake up t he base building meta.
@@WaywardEko Prehaps but i wonder if removing things like electrical and values changes would really be enough to distinguish seasons and make them stand out from base game. take DRG for example when they do a season they add a new threat and leave the season around as a way to allow new players to experience old content. and on top of that the seasons are free
It is sad as hell to me that so many in the gaming community itself are apparently on board with normalizing the idea that cosmetic items are DLC. DLC historically have been substantial content drops sold for what's now being charged for "outfits" and similar precisely like the horse armor for Oblivion that started the ignominious trend. Why should I pay any attention to what Richard has to say about predatory practices in the industry when it's painfully obvious TFP plan to adopt those very practices, unbelievably *at the urging* of prominent 7DTD players themselves. I've seen others suggest adding events with new boss type enemies along the way. Well, if I wanted to be playing the exploitative, predatory Fallout 76, I'd be playing the exploitative, predatory Fallout 76. @Eko: Talk all you want about all the "free content" drops the community has received over the years as you perceive it. They weren't content drops. The base game has been in active development. That's what an alpha state is: a base game in active development. You didn't get "new content" in those updates, you got aspects of a game in active development -- animations, physics, textures, etc. with some of those aspects still yet to come, e.g. the bandits so many are chomping at the bit for (while I'm sincerely hoping they can be turned off the same as zombies can be), factions and story mode. It's an unfinished game and you're talking about aspects of the base game being in some way "content drops"? I've wholeheartedly supported The Fun Pimps to date because they weren't involved in such shady practices as the exploitative, predatory practices Bethesda, et al., are today. Looks like I shortly may need to reassess that support.
@@lrinfi you got a point its really unfair to say that they've been supporting this game for a decade when it was unfinished at launch its just we have become so normalized to see early access games be the standard.
"I recommended a battle pass"... Why exactly? I'm so sick of battle passes being plastered in everything. It preys on FOMO and makes it to where you're playing an incomplete game every time. At least if it's a DLC you just...have the freakin' content. Though both honestly suck overall. The way they are implementing this, MARK MY WORDS, is making it so they have little incentive to create diversity in building structures and clothing, unless they are charging for it. It'll give us meager options to start with and just will focus on us "not having that content" when others do, giving folks FOMO and making it so we feel the need to purchase. Actually encouraging them to implement this is ridiculous. I'm so tired of people being so out-of-touch they think this is a GOOD THING. It's not, it's not, it's NOT. Give us complete and diverse games and customization without making literally everything freakin' a battlepass. And for everyone saying 'well they have to make money somehow...', yeah---well. This game has been in development for how long? At this point most games have just been finished and moved on to a sequel. Stop bilking IP's and squeezing every drop and just COMPLETE GAMES AND SELL COMPLETE GAMES.

@@WaywardEko You think the gameplay loop is stale...so the option to fix that would be to pay for a battle pass with content in it that you could miss out on? You understand why you're getting blowback for this, right? Instead of adding something that could actually fix that, you've recommended to the devs to charge us to fix a problem you see within the game, in a way that isn't something like say...a detailed expansion, which games like rimworld offer, or small packs with content already unlocked. As I said, battle passes create a problem in that it's ENTIRELY possible to lose out the content offered for them. I'm sorry to say it, but this isn't a good idea my man, and the fact that they are entertaining it is...well. Rough.
Yes ... you are paying for a thing that took people time to develop to extend the life of a game. Similar logic would be saying that we paid for the game but still need to earn our loot through playing it.
Yay Aussies! =D Every game should have cosmetics. The wardrobe is an interesting idea. Hopefully, it's not something that you still only store at base. Fubar the watchdog XD I am not at all a fan of any paid-for DLC-type content. Because it's really bad for people who just don't have spare money, even if it's only cosmetic stuff. Makes me sads. Things I am looking forward to: Character models. Animations. New Poi's. Hopefully, better optimisation.
Battlepass? lmfao This is a singleplayer game that has coop you play occasionally with friends - that would be like Valve putting a battlepass on Left 4 dead 2. 7 days to die is nowhere near the possibility of a well thought out multiplayer, and not designed at all for PVP or another game mode that would have a battlepass make sense.
Battle pass no, it distracts from playing the game and therefore immersion, although a shop for the developers to make some money and from the whales, that they can go to if they want and is not pushed in your face constantly would be ok.
@@WaywardEko removing customization limits the players' freedom a bit, I really like that part of the game. This and the fact that I always farmed to get soldier gear and now they won't be a thing anymore.
@@WaywardEko To be honest in a survival game, I'd rather look. RPG aspects do not fit 7 days to die for me "Gotta go farming, oh wait I'm wearing the wrong set, gotta change before going." "A horde's coming, ah shit I'm still wearing my farming gear, I gotta run and swap to my fighting gear" I can see this coming.
LOL.. 12+ years of free updates.. what a laugh. That was suppose to happen or they wouldn't have a player base since the game has been in pre-release since it came out and is just now going into not even a complete finished version until next year. With over 3000 hours in the game myself since alpha 15.
Plenty of games would have released and called it a day and then started charging for DLC. 3000 hrs for the probably $20 you paid is a pretty damn good deal.
Battle Pass? Another money grab. A decade old game should have all features and items available already and not be locked in a paywall such battle pass.
I'm pc. Battle pass I will refuse. DON'T YOU DARE. If I pay anything else it better be for a good DLC. I'm in it for the free. Bot the buy and only. I quit Crossout because of it. Conan exiles I quit because of the FOMO battle pass. I want a way to support content creators however it be reasonable and never to miss out on the things I would of loved to have. No I pay I wantbit then. Not some stupid forced to play to get BS. I have 2755 hours in the game already. Core mechanics on most stuff seems to push games forward and players to come back. Yet the DLC funds that progression. However battle passes might work on xbox but not for me. I will never battle pass anything. That not gaming it money baiting.

The worst thing is the game is most valuable from the mods and the steam workshop is still an unfulfilled promise

This model has worked in the past and actually brings companies huge profits. Just look at minecraft.
Would be the best thing for us honestly. I don't think they'll do it though and without fresh blood on the dev side, I don't think they could pull it off.
@@WaywardEko What you're suggesting is mostly just modifiers to change thing up a little bit + cosmetics. I don't see how that should be season exclusive. They could just as easily be save game options that are available whenever you want. Labelling something a battle pass just brings in the entire stigma that comes with it; resulting in it most likely being ignored entirely - Like with Conan Exiles or Diablo 4. People don't want to engage with piecemeal content that they either have to grind for or pay. It just feels scummy. There are much better ways to monetize things than battle passes, as they very rarely work out.
Helldivers 2 is one of the best games ive ever played and it has a battlepass system. Why do people hate extra content? If its done properly it will be great.
You see, action shooter/rpg or even battle royale games such as Helldivers, Destiny 2 and COD, etc. are games that makes sense with battle pass because they have quick gameplay mechanics. but a zombie survival sandbox games like 7D2D wherein the gameplay is slow and takes time then you will add battle pass? Not a good idea.
One of my favorite things about a battlepass ... and I'll use Apex Legends as an example ... they tweak things every season ... one gun gets stronger ... another gets weaker ... and teh meta changes every season. it makes the game feel fresh again. 7DTD needs something like this badly.
@@WaywardEko yeah but the thing is APEX Legends is a totally different game. Making 7D2D into games like APEX Legends or Overwatch or Destiny 2 or Helldivers 2 or COD will be a very bad idea. It will alienate the fanbase and those who love playing 7D2D for what it is. All I'm reiterating is that 7D2D is a totally different game where battle pass will not work. 7D2D is a survival horror and sandbox game. Maybe what will work for 7D2D is just what Ark Survival Evolved/Ascended is doing wherein they work with modders to make the game better, fresh and more interesting since modding is already a big part of 7D2D.
I know it's a different type of game. That alone has nothing to do with whether a battle/season pass would or wouldn't function. You didn't back that up with anything other than just continuing to say it won't work.
They are fuc*ing around with particle systems for the twentieth time, when animations still look like our character has advanced stone man syndrome. Fuc*ing around with battlepasses and DLC's when hordes with more than 4 zombies get your fps more than halved. We all know that "optimizations" and "new animations" will change nothing, like always. Insnane.
Hey Folks - Lots to breakdown in this interview - let me know if you caught any other insights!
100% accurate. This is a huge challenge of them not understanding the customer.

It's not like you can't build a chest at your mine or where ever and drop your outfit .

I would prefer for actual content to be developed and added to the game, as fast as possible. Happy to pay for that each time too.

Battle pass? oh boy i love fomo shit in my broken unfinished games yippee!!

Battle Pass has done nothing but kill a lot of really good games, so I hope not.
TFP should take a look at Keen Softwarehouse and how they did Space Engineers updates and DLC. The game is as old and handled things really well.

An arbitrary time-restricted unlock system I have to pay for and possibly miss out on time exclusive items!"
That makes zero sense to say the gameplay loop is boring, and what would make it fun is something that preys on fear of missing out and bilks more cash from people.
Those "spooky" (cringe) night noises need to go.
Yeah, some of the boss-style zombies in mods are great and would certainly add to the base game. Also, oh boy I wish they would change the menu music, I always have it muted now because it's so repetitive. And don't get me started on the mini bike sound!

I hope TFP buy out the larger overhaul mods. That or sell them and offer profitshare. Creators like khaine have really kept this game alive with overhauls like Darkness Falls.
I don't think you really want that. Can you imagine DF or UL but owned by TFP? Think of the update cycles ...

I will gladly be purchasing everything to show my love and appreciation for such a fantastic game and journey it's been!

Can't wait to see 1.0 released! It seems surreal to think how long we've been playing Alpha now
No kidding!!
my theory still goes as this: they have spent too long reinventing the wheel over and over again trying to chase trends rather than making the game they initially sold us. this has lead to nearly running out of money. so now they are rushing to put out 1.0. sony is the biggest console platform and they do not have an early access program like xbox does, so the only way to sell the game there is to release a 1.0 version. that'll get them the cash influx they need to actually finish the game. it's also why they only recently stopped selling the old version on consoles. they've known for awhile they wouldn't be able to upgrade the old version, but instead of delisting it as soon as they knew, they kept selling it with zero indications on the store page that it wasn't going to get any new updates. it's also why the story mode won't even be there at launch. frankly the only reason i even still play is down to great mods, my favorite being undead legacy.
I agree the old console version should have been delisted a while ago.

problem i have with this game that causes it to plateau in terms of sandbox potential is that the ai is so smart that it actually has the reverse effect and becomes dumb.
Would love to see anything that forces a shift in the meta. I 100% agree with you.
"Typically a box that has been upgraded once with a camp fire on top of it". This is the way, but not for much longer it seems.
I’m sure we’ll have some new weird mechanic with strange things built all over the map :)
I seriously doubt there will be a battle pass in future installments. Even if there was I would hate it.

Any updates on the day of release
Not beyond what Rich shared in this interview.
Yeah - I think mods are going to be an uphill battle and I don't know that any console will be able to handle the load of the overhaul mods.
When it comes to modding, they could do the same thing what Bethesda did with console mods. But can they do it, is other question.
You can't compare a behemoth like Bethesda to TFP ... they are working on a whole other level. With extended staff I think TFP has around 60 people. Bethesda is >400.
@@WaywardEko I mean yeah. That was just suggestion how they could approach modding on consoles.
Valid points.
That was simon not neebs about the armor lol
Roger that!
If there is battle pass, I think I wont stop playing. Grinding forever
I think it could be interesting .. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxZuZtnw7frIIM1EGBd2iwg7_q_baJc8qD
To some of you complaining thinking that Fun Pimps will be making the battlepass like most AAA games.
You need to think about games like Deep Rock Galactic, Among Us and Most importantly Warframe.
These BP systems are 100% free and can be gained online or offline (Deep Rock)
If you guys really have no hope and think that Fun Pimps is going to make this a Paid Battlepass (Hopefully not), we will just have to wait and see instead of moaning and thinking this is a AAA game company like Ubisoft, Activision or Blizzard
Everyone likes a good moan :)

That to me is worrying.

For me the weather/biome up is actually very huge as it fixes the progression in a major way.
I would much rather have it just be DLC's and have the option of staying offline for vacation playing.

kudos to them for actually finishing it, but those updates weren't "free"

I can't wait to play with some of my friends who only have a console!
I kinda feel stretching the game out seems pointless when you have settings to do that already, also paying for glamor seems not great
There aren't setting that do that now. Traders are busted. Quest rewards, trader stage, and loot stage cannot be adjusted in settings. Those are all hard coded in the XML.
7DTD sequel ... I'm pretty sure I won't live through the 30 years of development that will take.
Maybe your grandchildren :)
It is just a label ... unless there is a massive improvement in performance ...
@@WaywardEko Even then it´s just a label. This was planned and announced as Alpha 22 for the whole time and just now shortly before it releases they changed it. We would have gotten the exact same update if this would still be called A22...

That means PC players with a 12 year old rig should be fine

Stealth works great ... unless you are playing multiplayer.
I think a battle pass would hurt the game especially if its something like fortnite has with it being limited time. Something like the warbonds from helldivers wouldn't be to bad still a little cheeky for a 10 year old game in my opinion.

woot!
season and battle pass? So it's going to be like other games with paywalls and pay to win features where people who can afford to pay get a walk in the park while those who don't or can't get the passes struggle? I avoid games like that on purpose because I find that practice disgusting. its a system that rewards the rich and punishes the poor.
I'll have to find a different zombie survival game to play if that's the way 7 days is going to go.
Amen
I play a bunch of games that have affordable season/battle passes that are cosmetic only ... where you pay $10 for a season and typically have the ability to earn the next season pass over the course of the season so you only pay once. I also believe seasonal play would give a way to regularly mix up the meta.
@@WaywardEko "typically have the ability to earn' -- So, would it be safe to say you approve of pointless, never-ending grind for the sake of never-ending grind? And microtransactions, of course.

yup
Cosmetic battle pass at a decent price im ok with but not excited for. Doesn't reallly make sense in 7 days.

Rough.
I you have too pay for a battle pass your paying for items you earn regardless
Yes ... you are paying for a thing that took people time to develop to extend the life of a game. Similar logic would be saying that we paid for the game but still need to earn our loot through playing it.

Plenty of games would have released and called it a day and then started charging for DLC. 3000 hrs for the probably $20 you paid is a pretty damn good deal.
Battle Pass? Another money grab.
A decade old game should have all features and items available already and not be locked in a paywall such battle pass.
I don't think they'll release any DLC/BP until after the roadmap. That's my guess,
I'm pc. Battle pass I will refuse. DON'T YOU DARE. If I pay anything else it better be for a good DLC. I'm in it for the free. Bot the buy and only. I quit Crossout because of it.

Insnane.
The character model is completely redone in the coming version.
Sims4 franchise is distroyed, Selling more than ppl are willing to pay,
