Usually probation is the time you have to prove your right for the job. Not making any mistakes, showing up on time, etc. after the probation period you get more leeway and have to mess up a few times to get warnings and write ups. Probation is the time they feel you and see how right you are for the job. Getting fired for no reason is illegal hence probation period and written warnings and write ups to document infractions.
the Balkan genetic pool is very potent, males look rather massive and are pretty healthy. with a little care for oneself and a lack of self-abusive behaviors (overeating, smoking, heavy drinking, substance abuse), and regular exercise, your typical balkan male would look like a pro athlete from his 20s all the way up to his 50s.
Three years with corrections was enough for me. Inmates never bothered me. Fellow staff slept with inmates, did drugs with them, and were rats and snitches. Cops hated our guts because so many of us have been arrested.
I work for one of the three agencies brought up in this video. Keep fighting this, Nick! Dont let them bully you into backing down. If they didn’t have his back while the fight was going on how will he feel safe going forward.
I understood that a govt job that has a Union must be the first entity to fight for their members jobs. It's only after after all the Union redress have failed that one can hire an Attorney, but maybe it's different at a City job level.
He was only there 2 years talking about a rapport with inmates, not good. It takes years to develop a rapport. They were probably working him the long game. That said sounds like management screwed him over. He will probably win and get his job back, but most likely be transferred.
It’s in the Bronx. All crimes/incidents go through the Bronx courts because it’s part of Bronx County. (NYPD hates it because it adds to crime statistics in the Bronx - really should have their index on crime statistics). The odd thing is, is that the only way on to the island is through Queens.

That department is disgusting and I really hope Nick gets everything he’s asking for SOON! Sad how the inmates have more rights and are far more protected than the officers who keep the operation flowing. By far the worst thankless job/career to have.
I know this would be difficult but I would really really like to see an interview with someone who worked at ADX Florence. Always been fascinated with that place.
With all respect to Mr. Goichai, this is a textbook case of why you should save for retirement in an IRA etc and not take a job for a pension. Pensions provide retirement income but are not wealth that you can control on your own. It’s best to be self reliant. Wishing him the best in resolving his case.
Problem though is many people will not voluntarily do that and contribute. Whether not up to speed, lazy, undisciplined, whatever, many people don’t take the initiative or lack the discipline to save and invest out of their own paychecks on a consistent basis. Now, if the IRA or 401(k) was mandatory unless opt out then more would.
The city of New York treats its employees like absolute trash. The things they do to teachers is INSANE. I totally understand where this guy is coming from.
This guy is talking the truth. These systems are so corrupt. So many people have faced the same bad outcome. As they say...don't get me started good luck.
Those two officers who just watched the fight and did nothing to help Nick should be in jail. The state has an obligation to protect all inmates while in their custody and also to protect the correctional officers while they are working.
He seems like a good dude that got screwed over, but in terms of an interview about being a corrections officer.. it kinda sucks. It’s just 30mins of him talking about his lawsuit..
The same happens in Los Angeles County. If an employee gets hurt on the job eventually the county forces people to demote to clerk/ laundry worker or force to retire. Yes, the government will drag the lawsuits so the person gives up. The employee lose their savings, their home….. everything. Wishing you the best!
I don’t think he’s going to get reinstated the way he wants, I don’t know why he didn’t get a full medical pension for his injuries. It’s clear he can’t go back to work there due to his injuries. That rule about the OC spray is ridiculous so if you’re getting assaulted you have to follow some protocol in case the inmate is deaf? The problem is too many police officers get a medical pension that should not and he should get it. In NJ all corrections officers are considered police officers so there seems to be a union problem here not getting these officers covered. He has my respect.
There's always more to the story if the City refuses to settle. I can tell from the interview that they believe he had some pre-existing injuries before he was employed with them, and they might have some old medical records of his to prove it. They seemed to accommodate him for awhile after the fight, but thought he was milking it. He said the Captain and the other officer were escorting a prisoner and refused to help him. As an officer, if you're escorting a prisoner, it requires two officers, and you cannot leave that prisoner with only one officer for any reason. He definitely has a point about being short staffed during the pandemic, but that's also the fault of employees claiming to have Covid who didn't and being "quarantined," for two whole weeks, because allegedly someone else at home was sick. There was a lot of BS with people being lazy during the pandemic. It's unfortunate, but the City was not going to let him finish probation and be stuck with damaged goods and someone who was going to require light duty for potentially the next 20 years. He prides himself on being "cool" with the inmates, but he wasn't cool enough for them to save that fight for a time when another officer was guarding them. Perhaps the officers who delayed helping him think he deserved to fight alone if he's always advocating for the people who do things like that. He got injured because of inmates fighting and still talking about how good they were to him. It's laughable, and could be the main reason they let him go. Sad story, but I'm just trying to give another perspective called reality. When you are an employee at will they can fire you for NO REASON. He said he was on probation, so he was an employee at will.
@@robertlewis4794 I’m sure it will play out. I mentioned the probation already. He would have been smarter to not make waves until he was off probation. Court is already in bed with the City.

But, you can only work till you're 57 cuz they don't want old folks running the prisons. I retired 10 years ago at the ripe age of 53, and I am now living my best life. I don't think federal institutions are as violent as state institutions are either.
Pray do tell. Moron!
I did 12 months there.. It is a wild place for a normal guy
You did 12 months locked up or with the ability to leave each day?
@@leneo1731 Yes I am a felon. Went there in 2017/2018 For a gun Charge.12 straight months there is pretty Bad I was in EMTC.. The building is C76… I also just got home from 30 months in State prison same charge. I have 2 Gun chargers
I was there from 2017 to 2018 for a weapons charge. I was in EMTC… C 76. Which is the sentenced building the worst part is that horrible mess hall food my goodness.
No offense but you gotta have some real bad luck to be a normal guy and do 12 mo., andy dufrain was normal but not guilty...
@@davidperez5089 What is your definition of a normal person?
You can be pretty normal but still do crimes.
Would you call a person drinking and driving normal?
Would you say people who steal money are relatively normal?
Normal to me in this situation is the opposite of violence and totally mental craziness.
99,9 of the most criminal people in the world you would never know what they'd done if you just spoke to them outside prison.
They're normal.
Bundy was normal.
Gacey was normal.
Kemper, Watts, Wallov, I could go on but you get my point.
HA, Bandidos and so on are the nicest guys to talk to ever. They're helpful, charming, nice, normal.
We don't see these people when they're not normal so I really don't understand the use of the word normal.
He is being railroaded so I pray he is victorious with his lawsuit.
This is the way the system treats people that actually WANT to work and love their job!
NYC Civil Service - City Owned, Family Run! This guy gets his job back, he gonna end up getting jerked off his whole career, they’ll NEVER let him settle in. Look at the mayor’s BS that they sweeping under the carpet!
I was raised on the streets and I BELIEVE this man,to the word!!!
All Nick was supposed to do was watch & wait for the squad to respond everyone knows you do not break up any fights with inmates because that could be a set up
Unfortunately, Nick has a lot to learn about the system. He is on probation at NYC Corrections for 22 years. He is fighting City Hall. At most he is entitled to a 3/4 tax free disability pension for 1 years worth of service. This would not be much money per year. Good luck and I think you are better off moving on in your life.
22 years?
Yes. While probation is technically 2 years, I have been told that COs feel like they are always on probation until retired. FYI.
Completely wrong lol
@@greese6916fortunately feelings don’t hold any weight.
Stand up guy! God bless you! 🙏
Nick you are one tenacious & intelligent man. I wish more people had your work ethic. You deserve & will get justice.✨️🙏🏾✨️
Fascinating interview! I wish him the very best. Greetings from NYC. Cheers!
STAY WITH THIS GUY!! many follow-ups needed.
Please keep us updated, Mark. This man is going to change some thangz!! He's fiery! Great Man, Thank u.
Wow - impressive! Nick is a genuinely good man.
I’d love to see a follow-up on this story, Mark!
Thank you for sharing this with us, Nick 🧚
I really enjoyed your story hopefully I'll find more of your stuff, I hope you win your case and keep fighting the good fight ❤thank you for your service
Nick- here in #solidarity Best of luck!!! Keep Mark updated.
The system should appreciate this man even considering going back to work there..❤
Speaks to his character. 🎉❤
From my understanding if you are in probation at your job you can get let go for any reason. Hope this guy wins
That's how they do worker's comp at my job, too. They'll do anything to not pay. Ridiculous.
Love this interview! Hanging on every word!
You deserve better. I hope you get every penny!
For all he's gone through, Nick looks great for his age. I wouldn't put him beyond mid 30s!
the Balkan genetic pool is very potent, males look rather massive and are pretty healthy. with a little care for oneself and a lack of self-abusive behaviors (overeating, smoking, heavy drinking, substance abuse), and regular exercise, your typical balkan male would look like a pro athlete from his 20s all the way up to his 50s.
I love this video and Nick seems like a genuine man who wants treats people with compassion. Love love love
Nick.. I’m Albanian. I was born in Detroit and we moved to New Jersey when I was 5..Loved listening to your story.
Three years with corrections was enough for me. Inmates never bothered me. Fellow staff slept with inmates, did drugs with them, and were rats and snitches. Cops hated our guts because so many of us have been arrested.
Seems like this story is missing something
My buddy became a NYC CO at 35, served from 1999-2020, he retired a captain, his first tour was rikers, then retired an academy instructors.🇺🇸💙👮🏽♂️

I work for one of the three agencies brought up in this video. Keep fighting this, Nick! Dont let them bully you into backing down. I find it interesting that their grounds for termination was that you "failed probation." I'm not sure how they think you getting injured while performing your assigned duties counts as failing. I'm sure your attorneys have already requested all of your employee evaluations- which I'm sure will help with your case. Good luck!
This dude is a good guy! Wish him all the best. Keep fighting brother
Don't tell him that because obviously fighting for him is not well nevermind
This guy was extremely interesting! He's some swagger, for sure😎
Real tough guys don’t always look it, and are very soft spoken.
Be careful when you size up strangers.
You never know their life story or what type of training they’ve had👍🏾
I hope he wins this case 🙏🏼
Nick, I hope you win. Please keep us updated.
I support you and hope the best for you!!
I hope he’s not going to get in trouble for speaking out while this is being litigated? I know he’s passionate about his cause but sometimes the court and work comp board don’t like this. I think the aclu should get involved as well. What about his union? I would not want to go back to working in this environment, his coworkers must be pissed he’s speaking out. If they didn’t have his back while the fight was going on how will he feel safe going forward.
He's already contradicted his story right here on camera
He's already contradicted his story on camera here
@@izzydeadyet7336A few×
I understood that a govt job that has a Union must be the first entity to fight for their members jobs. It's only after after all the Union redress have failed that one can hire an Attorney, but maybe it's different at a City job level.
He was only there 2 years talking about a rapport with inmates, not good. It takes years to develop a rapport. They were probably working him the long game. That said sounds like management screwed him over. He will probably win and get his job back, but most likely be transferred.
RIKERS IS NOT IN THE BRONX Mark, It is located in East Elmhurst, Which is right outside of Queens
It’s in the Bronx. All crimes/incidents go through the Bronx courts because it’s part of Bronx County. (NYPD hates it because it adds to crime statistics in the Bronx - really should have their index on crime statistics). The odd thing is, is that the only way on to the island is through Queens.
@@antonvonmanheim4653 you can go from all the borough detention centers, VCBC, "the boat" which is basically a boat on the opposite side of Rikers island, on the Bronx side
It's a friggin' island near La Guardia airport, you dope!
15 yrs ago, I was blatantly sexually harassed @work, the guy was also harassing several other coworkers. It got so bad/ridiculous that my useless boss asked *me* what 2 do about the situation w the scumbag. Long story short, I go 2 HR, then retain an awesome atty...they dragged it out for 5 yrs, had me followed, it was preposterous. NOW that I can look back @what happened, I would've just quit & moved on w my life. Imo-a long, stressful legal battle is not worth it, life's too short. I really hope that Nick will prevail bc I understand why he *wants* justice, but *true* justice is *very* tough to come by in the end.
I’m very anxious for the update on this one!
A solid understatement on soft underbelly
I hope we get an update for this one!
Nice man, I hope and pray he wins over the city.
Nick and I started the academy together. Real solid guy. His story hit home for me because I too have been a victim in several situations and it fell on deaths ears. That department is disgusting and I really hope Nick gets everything he’s asking for SOON! Sad how the inmates have more rights and are far more protected than the officers who keep the operation flowing. By far the worst thankless job/career to have.
If he wins they will make his life miserable. He is a good man keep your chin up.
I know this would be difficult but I would really really like to see an interview with someone who worked at ADX Florence. Always been fascinated with that place.
Good job Nick. Fight for yourself. I hope others can find your strength.
This guy makes me proud to be a New Yorker! Big up Nick 👍 You got this man!
Keep on fighting dude! You seem like a great guy
The entrance to Rikers was at the end of my street & I lived in Queens!!!
I feel sorry for you. 300 aircraft landing and taking off in your front yard.
Nick please keep us updated.
Typically you have a 401k type as well as a pension in civil service.
The city of New York treats its employees like absolute trash. The things they do to teachers is INSANE. I totally understand where this guy is coming from.
WOW the gov did nick dirty, nick is a good guy ❤ he will win
Good evening everyone from Melbourne Australia🦘
Good morning from here, the midwest of the USA.
This guy is talking the truth. These systems are so corrupt. So many people have faced the same bad outcome. As they say...don't get me started good luck.
Something doesn’t add up
Let’s hope the camera footage doesn’t get lost.
Those two officers who just watched the fight and did nothing to help Nick should be in jail. The state has an obligation to protect all inmates while in their custody and also to protect the correctional officers while they are working.
Fight the good fight Nick and WIN! ❤❤
We need that update son!!
Excellent interview! Hoping you win BIG 🏆
I'm watching this with 16 years in... Florida sheriff.
It's true that the good corrections officers get that respect. A beautiful thing
I hope we get an update on this guy!!!
Mornin' all!

Good Morning
Good morning!
Good morning, all. ✌️
Good morning! 🌞
So let it play out in court.
He says they also claim he was on probation and not protected.
@@robertlewis4794 I’m sure it will play out. I mentioned the probation already. He would have been smarter to not make waves until he was off probation. Court is already in bed with the City.
I had no idea Rikers is a jail!! Wow and here I thought it was a maximum security prison. Thank you for coming and talking about your experience. Stay safe 🙏
That place is horrible !
So many people are held there longer than they should be without a bail hearing ! Unfair
Everyone needs their time in front of the judge asap and go from there
Bro, I feel you 100%. State of Indiana paid out $1,000 I think to my buddy who lost his eye after an I/M stabbed him. The cellhouse should have had at least 3 Officers, there was 2 and that was the norm. I love my job but, the politics need to change. We need better staffing and resources. I hope you get what you deserve from them. The assholes need to be held accountable. - Formet Sergeant Indiana DOC (Moved onward and upward. Just not saying to where.)
I'm sure Nick was screwed over and I'd expect nothing less than gross negligence, incompetence, and corruption in the NY state agencies. But that said, does an employer have an obligation to continue to employ someone who gets injured on the job? Honest question. I'm just curious. Is their policy with regards to that specified in the employment agreement?
24:51 Attorney needs to sound clip this and play it as an ad 😂
