  • Hello all
    Apologies for my recent radio silence. Got a lot going on with house restoration and studio redesign. Will be back to weekly as soon as possible.
    So here is my review of the Cort Source BV. If you are looking for an affordable 335 style guitar I really strongly recommend this. It's a brilliant affordable alternative with amazing build quality and beautiful feel and sound and has tons of Mojo for such an affordable guitar. Deffo the best 335 type I've tried to date.
    Excuse the dodgy audio and picture still trying to get my studio optimised.

      Hey DeDe. Thx for the comment. It really is a spectacular guitar. I’m always in the lookout for the p90 bigsby one but they’re sooo rare.

    Bought mine about 8-9 years ago. It's the P-90 version with a Bigsby. Never needed a set up and stays true all these years later. My '88 cort performer series 335 is equally fantastic 👌

      Hey Daniel. Thx for the comment. I saw that one on a free ads website here a few years ago and have been looking for one ever since. I’d say it’s an amazing guitar. How is the bigsby? I’ve seen the performer ones before too. Cort make outstanding stuff.

      The bisgby is the Asian variant B700. It is smoother than expected. My genuine B-11 vintage one is far less responsive. The Performer version has passive EMG pups that are quite acceptable for my needs. Not hot but good clear punch and distort evenly without fizziness when pushed. They both have similar neck profiles and action remains low and consistent unlike many necks I've had over time. The common use of a slight clear finish over the rosewood lends more familiarity. Great instruments both. One Indonesian and one S. Korean.

    • @ixis99
      @ixis99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One difference is that the Performer series is less weighty and therefore more comfy to wear in longer sessions. Still,the Source isn't impossibly heavy and if there's any complaint.... it's minimal.

    Bought one about 8 years ago. I also have / had a Gibson 137 with bigsby. I just couldn't gel with the Gibson, couldn't get the tones so got rid of it $4k. I'm very pleasantly surprised with the Cort, to my ears sounding much better than the Gibson 137. IMO and a better player and still had the stock pups.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John. The 137 is he big bodied jazz box with the pointed cutaway right? Are you a jazz player?
      These guitars are just phenomenal. It’s probably the best playing guitar I own. I’ve been looking out for the p90 bigsby one but they’re like hen’s teeth.

    hello! First, thanks for the video. It's really helpful. I see you are using a Koch amp. Does the dirty sound come from the od of the amp itself or from a pedal?

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Luca. Thx for the comment t. Yes all the dirty tones are coming from the amps two dirty channels. Both in the demo and the opening track. It’s a fantastic amplifier. The Koch studiotone 20

    Hey mate
    Great to see a fellow Irish man doing some good content. I'm based in Australia now and used guitars seem to carry more of a premium here than they do back home. I've seen one of these going for 550 AUD. That's about 375 euro. Good deal at that price or no? What do you think?

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lorcan. I think that’s absolutely a fair price for one of these. I’d say snap it up before someone else does. I play mine all the time. The only replacement I’d be motivated to look at would be an Orville but they’re 7 or 8 times the price. Thanks.

      No worries, would you reccomend this over the Epiphone Dot then?

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So I’ve played 2 epiphone dots. I didn’t like either. They both felt cheap and almost incomplete. This is just a far far better guitar IMO.

    I have see one with ta different headstock, a fleur de Lys, any idea why that is? Thanks. Great review

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Estica. Thx for the comment. So I went looking them up on Google. Sure enough there are some that have a slightly different headstock shape with a fleur du lit inlay.
      I can only guess that they changed it at some point for maybe a copyright reason or something? 🤷
      It’s the first time I’ve noticed it.

    • @ixis99

      The fleur de lies headstock is the Korean model. The more recent Indonesian one is this in the video.

    Are u listening back with bluetooth headphones? How are u coping with latency?

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Loads of people ask me that! No they’re wireless headphones. No latency. There’s some BG noise but they’re perfect for this.

    • @guitourney
      @guitourney 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGuitarEffect what models? Seems strangely weird, I was sure that latency on bluetooth was an inevitability. What driver do you use on your daw? Asio?

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not Bluetooth. Wireless uses a radio signal like wireless in ear systems. There’s a transmitter that plugs into an output on my interface. I can monitor directly if I want to (not through DAW) but I get no latency through the Daw.

    I know Gibson are the Porsche of Guitar , but does it compare to a similar model of a Gibson..

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey George. Thx for the comments. To be honest I just don’t think it’s a meaningful comparison. The reason I say that is I think this guitar does the job a 335 does perfectly well enough for me.
      A 335 would probably cost around 2K. I’d say that’s an entirely different experience. But I think this guitar has that sound and feel in spades.
      I also think of all the 335 copies out there in this price range this one feels closest in appearance to a 335. Which is important to me.

  • @danielefatali5117
    @danielefatali5117 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It should be compared with the new epiphone inspired es 335

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Daniele. If I can get my hands on one the new Epi 335s I would happily do a comparison. Pretty sure they are over €500 though. And these can be had for circa €250 used if you can find one. They’re amazing guitars

    • @danielefatali5117
      @danielefatali5117 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGuitarEffect i know i got a source too. The new epi is 499 new incl.shipping, and it s kinda same price as a new cort (cant find used epi yet). I saw on andertons a blindfold challenge with gibson 335 and epi and they sound pretty close, so i suppose the new epi have a better quality build and control, plus really good pick-up
