    1000#+ is a lot to hang on a transom that was never designed for it especially when you add the leverage of the outboard bracket. I was shocked when I saw the inside of the transom with no additional support added, amazing that it lasted as long as it did.

    That's the same concept as a modern day stepped hull boat, they just did away with the little holes and slots and just made it one big slice across the bottom so marine growth wouldn't clog up the little holes.

  • @miketee2444
    @miketee2444 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    To really do that bracket properly the boat should have one piece stringers running front to back. Even scabbing on to stringers isn't great. Ide run them through the transom into the bracket.

    Its amazing how many holes have been in that transom over they years incliding what looked like a full second set of bracket mounting holes poory plugged on the inside of the transom. Going to be a killer ride when it is completed......can't wait to see it!

    Interesting comments. This was made by Fisher Marine Tech started in 1982, (of Body by Fisher fame). They bought the old Rybovich yard (hence the model name Rybo Runner) This was the first leisure boat hull that had a stepped hull design. They found out that sea plains used step hulls with air boxes for venting made faster and shorter take offs. Fisher made around 80 or so of these boats before selling the molds to various companies, all were center consoles except one had a trunk cabin, none were inboard powered of any kind, but were made to support 2 stroke outboards on a short bracket. With modern 4 stroke engines of 250hp you can get around 30 mph cruise at around 3800 rpm with a top of over 50. So my advice is do your research, seek out good advice and dont design a project by using your wallet. THANKS..

    one of these Rybo Runners popped up in our neck of the woods in Wilmington NC way back in 1983. Had 2 OMC See Drives and was the biggest center console anyone had ever seen back then. There were a few 30 foot Wellcraftd Scarabs around

    Super nice video! Really enjoy your content!
    That setup on an older boat with a transom bracket is something a lot of boats deserves to really stand out. I see a lot of newer boats with a "janky" outboard setup that could be made so much better, combining the swim-platform from the bracket with the couple of extra feet you then also get to make the boat ride better. Really the best of both worlds..
    Greetings from Norway!

    I have worked on many of those boats. They came with OMC sea drives basically what you would consider the first outboard with its own bracket never seen one with inboards also that hull would have issues if you left them in the water marine growth would get in all the air gaps and make the boat a tird.

      honestly there's 0 chance any of the coring/flooring/glasswork around the holes designed to "force air under the hull" etc. is solid at all, any wood in that boat is suspect at best

  • @rumnboats7612
    @rumnboats7612 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It looks like if you started trying to do fiberglass repairs on the bottom and hull of that boat especially around those holes for "routing air" you would basically grind the entire boat away before you could start adding glass.

    Weight of two motors 1,100 lb total and about 40in
    lever arm creates
    350 lb/ft of static torque.
    In the dynamic this numbers will be multiplied unpredictably.
    In the absence of any vertical reinforcement,
    this forces are distributed between two lines of bolts 12 inches apart.
    All arguments about motor platform own buoyancy, it's nothing but ..
    I will follow this project with a great curiosity)).

    Please, keep us posted with the fixes. I would also be interested to see how that boat "flies" at the end - if the owner agrees.

    Thats a jet step.. and they were developed for Flyboat hulls way back to allow them to get up on the plane and break the stick-tion effect of trying lift the hull off the water especially if the water was very flat..
    Before that if they were heavily laden they might be forced to cross their own wake or send out a launch to create a wake to lift off..
    These sort of features were certainly seen on Grumman's and earlier hydroplane boats..
    Someone clearly hadnt thought through the conversion process. .. and just fitting bigger outboard engines is like fitting big V 8 motor to the boot lid of a lotus seven.😖
    Its lucky they didnt rip the extension off and the transom with the motors going to the bottom followed by that otherwise nice hull.🤦🏻‍♂️

      If your interested in checking them out just look up Rybo Runners. They didn’t make too many before selling the molds which went to a few folks before being sold to dusky. It’s the same hill as is used in the dusky 33 but has a different cap. I have one and they are pretty cool boats for sure

  • @rmretherford
    @rmretherford 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very nice boat! Love the design and the theory behind the vents in the side leaning under the boat. However wouldn't this cause the outboards to not get sufficient cooling water, would it also not contribute to ventilation and possibly cavitation? Or are these more on the outboard sides of the boat so the air really never makes it to the center where the engines are? Would really love to see the outcome of this boat.
