- Here's another way to produce moulded items without resorting to costly resin.By using Herculite 2 in most moulds will work well and can be produced cheaply.Herculite 2 is an artist grade plaster cheap and strong. In many uses the items produced this way can be used in artwork without the need for resin.Resin can be expensive, requiring ventilation try this alternative method out.Questions let me know! Part 2 is coming out very soon with a flexible solution. Please subscribe to the channel so as not to miss this one - thanks
Great content! Looking forward to more videos from you
Awesome, thank you!
Brilliant Gary love all your videos yea I find the plaster works better in moulds the detail is a lot better than clay I find .. I find resin very messy..
Thats great to hear appreciate your comments!
@garystenningart, does Herculite works like plaster of Paris, or is it stronger?
@@MariaGomes-ew1bl Hi Plaster of Paris is a generic term for this type of plaster sometimes I see this in craft shops however I haven't tested this , Herculite 2 is however a specific quality type I have found over the years to be the ideal for giving detail and strength see this link to Maragon who supply various types of plaster www.maragon.co.uk/arts-and-crafts.html#Init
Maragon do various types of plaster with different qualities/drying times , however for art of the type I make (mixed media wall art) Herculite 2 works well and isn't a massive cost.Hope this helps many thanks for the question - Gary
This is great . I’ve never heard of this plaster. Is this similar to casting craft and gypsum? Do you have to seal it before painting? I know casting craft needs to be sealed before adding acrylic paint or else it leaves lines due to the porous properties. Also can you add color like acrylic paint, acrylic ink, alcohol inks? sorry so many questions.
Hi I'm not sure about Gypsum/ casting craft Herculite 2 is one of a series of artist plasters Maragon in UK supply a good range www.maragon.co.uk/arts-and-crafts.html. I find the best way to paint on herculite 2 to give it a base colour first as it will absorb same paint initially.Typically I'm using ARTEZA Iridescent Acrylic Paint, A709 Fancy Black I find it makes a good base coat and I may well want elements to show through.Often a watered down colour as a wash is useful for this purpose prior to actual painting.I Haven't tried Acrylic ink/Alcohol ink specifically I would think this will work I think I should do a expanded study of painting on this material with other media.I'm also putting together a video testing a product called ResinCrete which isn't truly Resin and acts in use like Herculite 2 seems to have some good properties.
Where did you get the first mold? It’s so cool and I must have it.
I think you mean this one hope this helps

@@garystenningarttoo bad it's out of stock. I searched for it by name on the US Amazon site but no luck. Anyway thanks for the information about Herculite 2. I definitely hate using resin but it is so durable. Does this stuff break easily or is it really strong? I make jewelry and I paint and do mixed media for customers so I have to know if I make something it will really hold up.
Cool video. Love the steampunk vibe. I subscribed to learn more ❤
Hi again ArtyGal Herculite2 is good on artwork (wall Art and the like ) Jewellery wouldn't use it as the mechanical stress would break it I'd use polymer or resin for Jewellery Hearty Soft could be ok and maybe worth a try its lightweight but a bit 'squishy' in use ok in a mould and if you are making figures to use to make the core of a figure lightweight and then sculpt over top with sculpy.I will cover this in a future sculpting video.Hope this helps, many thanks for the questions - Gary
You can get plaster of paris where the sell drywall. It's basically a drywall plaster in pwd form. I bought some that has fibers in it for added strength.
Herculite 2 plaster is harder and far more durable than other types of plaster, such as plaster of Paris. Not tried Plaster of Paris in moulds for an evaluation I would think that in some circumstances in moulds on artwork its fine it would be interesting to see if its definition of the moulded item is as good as Herculite2.In the UK a main supplier of Herculite 2 is a company called Maragon www.maragon.co.uk/arts-and-crafts.html#Init
Where can you buy this plaster stuff? It looks really easy to use!
Herculite 2 is available on amazon, ebay, in the UK I have used maragon.co.uk. www.maragon.co.uk/arts-and-crafts.html#Init
Can you drill holes in the Herculite 2 without ruining the medium? Let’s say for earrings or is it to delicate?
Hi I don't think it's really suitable for the use as earrings which need more strength , I am though currently experimenting with ResinCrete aand will be doing a video during next week comparing Herculite 2 and Resincrete.I shall try drilling something made of Resincrete and Herculite 2 in the video so I will show what happens. At the moment Resincrete seems to have some interesting properties particularly handling small detail.I will probably do a drop test of these 2 materials to see what happens
Awesome!,
@@marciemactarnaghan2171 I'm also going to test the product 'Heartysoft' it's very lightweight and good impact resistance
What is the ratio of water to herculite
i usually put a quantity of water in a cup then mix in powder until it starts to stop being watery and starts to become creamy but pourable technically they say its 100 grams plaster to 42 ml water i.e 100 / 42 setting time varies depending on the mix hope this helps
👋👋👋
thanks
I like resin Crete but its way too expensive
Hi yes it is I'm putting a video together on this comparing to herculite 2
is this similar to "resign crete"
Herculite 2 is a type of plaster and Resi-crete is fusion between a polymer resin and a cementitious compound.Never tried this product may well try to get some to see how it performs Looks suitable for textures . Thanks. Gary
