The Tenere 660 is one of the best bikes you could hope to have on a trip like Dan's. I have 25,000 klms on mine and it is awesome, never misses a beat, I am planning a trip to Sth America in a year or so on my trusty Tenere. I love Sth America and its people, and can think of no better way of getting around but on a bike, great job Dan.
All riders have different opinions about bikes they ride, however, if you ask me what I think about XTZ...it served me well for nearly 2 years..covered thousands of miles with no mechanical problems and when I sold it, it looked almost as new despite all the falls and silly drops and 1 accident. Furthermore, it is a relatively cheap bike to service and to buy the parts. It was easy to lift it when you drop it 5 times within 100 metres of mud and sand...It was very comfortable in my opinion
Well, taking a tour is easy and convenient in any possible way, but you definitely pay for all the preparation, guide and so on. If you do it yourself, you will learn so much more and will have a real appreciation after you achieve all that you are doing. However, doing everything yourself has some downsides, not everything goes easy and according to plan, but that is what elusiveness of adventure riding is all about. 15 months on the bike cost me as much as one of those tours for 3 weeks.
Great video Dan, so where to next? I also have a 660 and we are going to be one of those guys next year riding as part of the organised tour for the Dakar. Feeling pretty dumb now and think we should just take off on our own :-) Well done mate.
Hi thanks for you video, I watch it often, good pictures, good music and you make me love xtz 660 ! I have a question : I suppose there were someone else with you on the bike during your travel, weren't there ? it was a friend ? pehaps I mistake and you were alone...
Excellent video, looks like a great bike good size for your trip. Did you speak Spanish? I have biked most of North America have though of South America maybe some day.
Wow, what a trip! And the beautiful scenery... this is definately on my list :) I hope I can do it on my beloved Transalp :P How many times did you fall over with the bike?
Thanks, yes it was one of the best trips in my life. Falling of the bike was regular occurrnce but no injuries. the only scary moment was flling off the bike at 40mph in Bolivia in the middle of nowhere and the bike did not want to start.
Inspiring trip, secondary roads are the best.
