    Nice video! I recently got a 2008 GRS204 Crown imported as well and can't wait to take it out this summer.

    A RA62 six speed manual transmission bolts right up to the 2GRFSE, itll run with a check engine light. Custom driveshaft and transmission mounts and it can be done. Source an RA62 from an IS250-6MT

      I have another video of my brother driving this car for his first time and he miraculously did it only once or twice. Everyone else (including myself) usually does it a couple dozen times before remembering.
      I switch back and forth with the company vehicles I drive being lhd and after a couple months I started naturally using the window side hand no matter how frequently I switched.

    Questions. How did you get your DRL? Did you install a module or did you tap into the fuse? and which fuse did you tap?

    • @gearheadsyndrome
      @gearheadsyndrome  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      After helping my father-in-law I.port and register his USDM 2002 trans-am I found out the province of NB isn't very strict on DRL requirements for older vehicles under the 15 year rule. If the vehicle is made before 1989 for Canada or not equipped with DRL due to importing you're supposed to drive with you headlights on. USDM vehicles imported newer than 15 years old they seem to require it be installed.
      All that being said, I've yet to be stopped for no headlights. I make a point to turn them on when it's rainy or in any other poor visibility situation. Both have automatic headlights for night time which is nice.

    Hows the maintenance and servicing costs? Importing a 2005 Toyota bB soon and wondering on how much basic servicing would be. Heard some places wont even work on JDMs

    • @gearheadsyndrome
      @gearheadsyndrome  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do all my own work but for provincial inspections and alignments, I have a mechanic that's cool with JDM stuff and lets me source parts. I haven't had to do anything that way with either of our JDM cars though. Mechanics aren't hard to find if you look beyond the big franchises/dealer shops and build a relationship with them.

      @@gearheadsyndrome Ah makes sense. Unfortunately im not mechanically proficient enough to do stuff like that myself

    • @gearheadsyndrome
      @gearheadsyndrome  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's okay. I would chat with any other local JDM owners and find a short list of the mechanics.
      The toyota bB is as far as I know, mechanically identical to the similar year scion model sold here so if you can be aware of what exact year is the the equivalent north american model then any mechanic really shouldn't have an excuse to not service it.

      Online owners groups are great for the weird jdm vehicles too. The Canadian JDM honda odyssey FB group for example has catalogued all the parts interchangeability with the RB1 and RB2 chassis so finding local parts is much easier. The Internet is a wonderful resource if you know where to look and aren't afraid to message the right person.
      Good luck and thanks for watching. Would love if you subscribed so you can follow along with my next JDM import daily (hopefully leaving Japan soon)

    I have got 2008 toyota crown couple months ago don’t know where to take the car for service and sometime need parts too but don’t know where to find can you please help me with that?

    • @gearheadsyndrome
      @gearheadsyndrome  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Anything you're looking for, look up the part number in this catalogue. For a Crown I would then just Google that part number with the word "lexus GS". You'll very likely find a part locally.

      Rocky mountain parts has them all for anyone who needs them. The shipping isn't cheap though. Add $800-1000 to what a windshield costs and takes 3 months to arrive.

    Any idea how I can fix the touch screen in my car? its the same model just a 2007. Also does the crown athlete share the same coilovers with the lexus gs350?

    • @gearheadsyndrome

      From everything I've read and from speaking to another local owner who did lower theirs any coil overs made for the GS will be a direct fit.

      For the head unit, the Crown Focus replacement kit made for JDM Crowns in Australia is a popular replacement that's gets you carplay/android auto. A bit expensive though.

      There is a nice big touch screen done by someone on the crown social media groups that is the latest Android auto set up. A bit expensive but it has rave reviews.

      Mid 2000s jdm toyotas all display ~10% higher than actual. My wife's estima is the exact same way. Just a quirky thing toyota opted to do for whatever safety/liability reason in Japan.

      Not every part in the car is JDM only. Most are not.

    • @gearheadsyndrome
      @gearheadsyndrome  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on the vehicle but it is rarely a nightmare. We own 2 right now and the Estima has significantly less shared components with any local model. Still via the Internet I've been able to find everything it's needed relatively well priced and shipped to Canada in less than 2 weeks.
      The led tail light assembly was flickering so I got a used but working one for $160 shipped. The weather strip along the bottom edge of all the windows was cracked, new set of 4 was $128 from aliexpress. Tie rod end was worn, new toyota oem one from Amayama.com was $62 shipped.
      Windshields are the main things that can be a pain because when they aren't shared with a USDM car the shipping is unavoidably expensive. Luckily they tend to be affordable in Japan. Still $1000 to ship one, usually $1500-1800 total from what I've heard. Get any chips repaired quickly is my advice.

      Like I said in the video. A 5min comparison on megazip diagrams confirms Toyota part number 48620 is the right control arm in the usdm GS350 and the jdm Crown. They are the exact same chassis underneath
