    thanks for the input, mate.
    I have fixed it. It was the diesel pump. I went to the BMW garage who wanted to charge me around 2000E for installation of another Diesel pump.
    But, I couldn't afford it so just opened the idler which is located at the top part of the diesel pump, cleaned it and reinstalled it.
    Now it has been almost one year since it runs great.

    Diesels are compression ignition (or DI) engines. meaning the pressure created during the compression stroke, raises the temp of the air in the cylinder past flash point of the diesel fuel that it's mixed with. Rather than using a spark plug to ignite it (they don't have one at all). But the same basic principals apply. I am a mechanic by the way lol.

    @zamouri1961 attention! Before opening the head of the pump, make sure you note the position of the head on the pump. The position of the head on the pump determines engine idling and it's quite sensitive. On reinstallation you will have to put it back right where it was before.

    The culprit was the diesel pump. Pull the actuator out, cleaned it and put it back. It ran great afterwards.
    I recommend cleaning that part of the diesel pump if you think you have an idling problem. Make sure symptoms are the same.

    The actuator is the electronic part of the injection pump. It's simply the top part of the pump that you can take apart and clean or replace with a new unit. In my case, cleaning did the job.

    hi there im a bmw technition this could be a number of things causing this you need the really check your your return pipes from your injectors under the engine cover if they are split then you will be leaking fuel and sucking in air 9 times out of 10 this is the case but also check your fuel pump

    There is a break in period, up to a point. You very well could have blown the struts, depending on how hard you drove it. An easy way to tell is if you go out and press on your hood, press it down, then let go. If it returns to normal height, then they're good, if it "bounces" then they need to be looked at. The springs should be fine, unless you've noticed the ride height sagging. Performance springs/struts are suppose to ride a little rougher.

    be careful when your buying parts.I'm not 100% but the intake on a TDS is black yours is grey that means you have the TD model(the older one with 116hp),problem is common and it's the injection pump,you have to replace it or recalibrate(there are 4 screws on top of the pump holding a square cap,you need to unscrew them in gently tap it with a tiny hammer,but dont try it cuz you will mess it up)...

    Since you have already started the car I don't think your problem is to get those bubbles out. You probably have a leak somewhere in the system that is letting in air. Make sure your return pipes are original bmw parts and all the other lines are correctly installed.
    To get trapped air out, you simply switch to starting position without starting the car. Do this a few times. In your case, i don't think it's a problem of trapped air. You probably have a leak.

    They're still rougher then the M-sport struts it had but noticeably softer then new. Guess they are ok then.
    I have a 2001 bmw 740iA sport. For a 4200Ib pound vehicle it turns extremely well :P. I find it turns better then my moms 03 suzuki aerio now.

    Everything inside the actuator. Once you open it up, you will see the dirt that builds up in there. Good luck and sorry for the late reply.

    @zamouri1961 It's a simple manipulation. You have to first order the gasket from either bmw or other dieselists. It usually comes with the rest of the gaskets necessary for injection pump repair.
    As soon as you got the gasket, open the top head of the pump. For this you will probably need an special tool, because one of the four bolts has got a three sided head. I have the tool if you want it, you can just get in touch.

    lol I have to agree with you on that one. All kidding aside.. might be a little late but have you tried to get a vacuum check on it.
    I'm no mechanic but how I understand it. Diesels depend on very high pressure to ignite the fuel instead of spark. If the pressure is too low they run like crap because it isn't able to ignite the fuel effectively.
    idk why but I like the sound of diesels :P. My dad used to own a peugeot turbo diesel. It was a nice car but it became impossible to maintain in the US

  • @ash4200
    @ash4200  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    the engine in this video had idling problem otherwise it sounds so cool, just imagine a straight six diesel how cool would it sound. Besides, i thought we were discussing production engines not modified ones. For your reference these diesel bmw engines are production versions not modified...

  • @ash4200
    @ash4200  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    have you ever had a bmw turbo diesel sport or the new diesel version of 3 or 5 series, if no do buy one and you will see which goes fast and sounds cool, your american gas gazller or bmw diesel engines

    I know what is happening. I had also an e36 like this one, but it had manual gearbox. The whole thing is from injection pomp. You must check the pomp.

    I have visible air in my return pipes as I replaced them and it causes the engine to jerk with air trapped,any idea how to get it out?thank you

  • @ash4200
    @ash4200  16 ปีที่แล้ว

    no it didnt, actually i have fixed the problem now, it was the diesel pump, opened it, cleaned it and now it runs great.

      How do you know if the timing chain is loose?

  • @outpostprime
    @outpostprime 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    :o I got a question for you then xD. I installed 4 bilstein struts and eibach springs on my car in august. It rode really hard for like 1 1/2 months but suddenly got super smooth. Is that normal?
    I'm just asking cuz I'm scared I might have messed it up some how xP. I just hope that there was just a breaking in point and not me somehow blowing the new struts.

    When you say "actuator" do you mean the stop solenoid with the connection wire in the top?

  • @milivojeperovic9079
    @milivojeperovic9079 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Its definitly either engine fuel pump electronics or the fuel tank pump....but i would go with electronics of the engine fuel pump.....

    @Zemjang Check the following link: vwcity.fr/redaction/article-aide-mecanique-8.html
    It contains a comprehensive list of instructions about how to take it off, clean it and then put it back. There are enough photos for you to recognize the idler. It's the top part of the diesel injection pump, the head.

    also your idle is to high for a 6 pot engine it should be around 650 rpm

    • @C3LM4RFG

      Mine is 800rpm with the M51 engine.. how do you change the rpm in a Diesel engine?

    Sorry for the late reply. Have you tried cleaning your injectors?
    You probably have a common rail engine with a high pressure injection pump. Check your injectors first. There are a few methods for this. Google should help you out.

  • @germanmafia

    Just my prefferance i guess. Even if they are technicaly better than gassoline engines, I really don't care. To me even when they are running right, they sound like ass, and they stink. You can not convince me that deisel exhaust smells good. And you want to hear a good sound? Look up "lumpy cam v8" now THAT'S a sweet sweet sound! And something only a gasoline engine can do.

  • @Arr0gance42
    @Arr0gance42 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    PUMP is the problem

  • @salemcripple
    @salemcripple 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    I never said it was slow, I said it sounds like shit, and it stinks. Like all deisels do. Besides, i can guarintee you i can build a gasoline engine that would put it to shame.
