The one I really miss is "Possum Brand" Sardines, had them when I was a kid, I guess they went out of business years ago. Thanks Dad for introducing me to this delicacy! I've been eating sardines since 1978!
Sardines are nice, but my favorites are canned herrings in tomatosauce, love ‘m with some wasa crackers… Delicious, keep reviewing those canned fish goods, Matt, greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Maybe ‘decant’ a single fish with some of the oil into a glass? I’ve seen that done in nicer restaurants before as the Maitre extols the virtues of the product to the prospective client. It allows you to really see the fish up close and to appreciate the colours and viscosity of the olive oil. Great vid as always!
Midnight February 14th 2022 Ontario Canada is 7゚F eating a can of sardines and blitzing a few of your episodes again. Excellent. Sardines and Maple syrup. 🍁 try it
After seeing the review and the finale, I thought you may finish it off with a shot of the olive oil. Thanks for the video, I find myself craving sardines more since I have been following you.
Oh by the way (I'm writting while watching you), the reason why high end tins like Ramon Peña sardinillas are out of this world is because they are not "sardinella aurita", sprats or brislings, they are "sardina pilchardus" before the grow up, flavour profile is completely different from what you know as little sardines. Ramon Peña and La Brujula told me personally some time ago.
Hi there, Matt! Those Pena 'dines look like my kinda of fish! I love the MN Polar sardines, but I'd like to find one that is not quite as smoked, a little firmer, and not so much tail. I'm kinda cheap, though. 😊 And I'm trying to eat 5-6 cans a day for my inflammation. Have you come across any sardines that are comparable to Pena but with a similar price to Polar? Thank you, my fishy friend ❤️
Please do an autopsy. I want to know west those extra bits are. I always think they are either their stomach contents or maybe liver or roe/eggs? Either way I’m not keen on eating that. I remove. Expert insight would be awesome
Mother ate sardines on toast a lot when we were kids, I never liked them. I think it might have been the idea of the bones turning me off. I do like canned mackerel in olive oil, and they're a fishy fish, so I'm thinking it's time to try sardines again. And I did like your hair on the longer side, but the cut is nice, too. Thanks for another great review!
I'll bet you can handle sardines today. I liked the hair too, but it was just too thick, too hot. Nothing worse than blow drying my mop and then walking outside into the heat.
What is a good price for a can of Pena sardines? Also, have you tried KO Royal Follets Mackerel Mediterranean Style Skinless &Boneless? Very good actually. Hard to believe you can’t find mackerel in white vinegar with spices here. Facebook sells some at $12-$22 a can. They sell for 2-3 euros a can in France.
$12 is what I pay for Penas. I think it's okay, considering. I don't eat them every day! I think I have tried those KO mackerels. They're very good. I wasn't aware of a mack with vinegar. I'll have to do some research when I finally get around to checking out the many KO mack flavors.
I just tried my first tin of Yurrita small sardines: FANTASTIC!! I will definitely need to buy more for my tinned seafood pantry. I have a few tins of Ramón Peña small sardines too, but I haven't tried them yet. Will do that soon.
There are a lot of great sardines that are cheaper, but I haven't found anything else just like them. So they are special, even if they aren't "better" than cheaper sardines. For what it's worth, one can is enough for two salads. So not a terrible deal for protein, especially one that's convenient to prepare.
I couldn't find that brand on Amazon. Have not seen them in my local health food stores either. The quality of the olive oil is pretty important to me since I pour it on my salads along with the sardines. Looks like the top was not that easy to open. Will try them if I can find a can.
