      A 1-inch sensor does have it's drawbacks. Such as depth of field where you will not be able to focus on up close objects.

    I'm still using the Hero 8 which is working fine. I can see the improvements with the 9 & 10 but to be honest I can't justify buying the 10 when the 8 still works fine, I don't think the improvements are big enough to spend the money 💰

    the 240fps test at the end was interesting. It seems like the hero 10 doesn't exactly have more resolution, it is just less line skipping and less artefacts which is a much more pleasing image. I hate the digital look of high frame rates on older GoPros. Its almost making me want to buy one just for this alone

  • @simonwyndham
    @simonwyndham 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I ran my HERO9 and HERO10 side by side on a dual mount with similar settings (5K30 on the H9 and 5.3K30 on the H10) and the battery drained at the same rate. The only differences occurred with higher frame rates, with 4K at 120fps consuming the most power, considerably reducing the run time. If you switched modes at all then that will have had a big effect, even running 5.3K at 60fps will have had a large effect.
    Regarding picture quality, look at the shot at 6:27. This is the type of shot that shows big differences between the H9 and H10. In my own tests of similar shots, the H10 produces much more detail in the grass areas, and on gravel paths etc than the H9. It's so different that even in compressed TH-cam footage it is visible. The compression system on the H10 seems much more efficient and better able to detail with fine detail such as blades of grass, foliage etc. And the noise levels are also vastly improved as well. Viewed on a 4K reference monitor, I can see very noticeable differences between the H9 and H10 in terms of fine detail reproduction. I've also noticed that skin tones are also much better on the H10 in my own tests.

    • @simonwyndham
      @simonwyndham 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@stefpix If you run 4K/60 it's generally the same a the H9 in the same mode. 5.3K /60 is a different beast and will run the battery down more quickly (though not as fast as 4K/120). I don't have any Gopro or any other action camera. I want to buy one. But stuck between Hero 10, 9 and 8. Since the H10 is latest model but also the most expensive one. H8 is the cheapest but also 2 years old. H9 has some lagging issue and less low light capabilities. But also have some advantages like Horizon levelling, changeble lens, bigger battery and also priced between H10 and H8. So I am totally confused between these 3 models. The difference between 60fps and 120 when it comes to fluid images is almost the same, slow motion obviously will look better, however, like many people have been commenting here, we do not need 5K, it is simply harder to edit on most machines, and even if you wanna upload it to TH-cam, on most people's internet speeds and devices will not play smoothly, it is simply a waste of time. I used to be a GoPro super fan, until I had the marvellous experience of owning a DJI Osmo Action. Think about it, while GoPro has released the 7, the 8, 9 and 10... Dji releases ONE Osmo Action, that's it. If you've had the pleasure of owning anything DJI, you'll know that the quality and reliability are second to none. Dji's Osmo Action is still the best action camera on sale today, and at a lovely $190 usd, the best value for money.

    I was a bit bummed out about getting the GoPro Hero 9 for Christmas until I watched your video. It looks as though GoPro made upgrades that are worth it, in some areas they actually slipped backwards. From your video, what I learned, is that the 9 is the logical choice unless someone gives you a 10 and it’s already in your hand. One item you should have mentioned and I’m sorry if you did is an obvious one, the difference in price. For a $100 U.S. dollars more you get the 10. Is it really worth the extra cost? Probably not as I have discovered.
    So, the other obvious question viewers want to know is, how does the GoPro compare to other cameras of the same (or close) type? Has Sony kept up with the competition? What about DJI or some of the Chinese knockoffs? I guess the question of, “what am I going to use this camera for” should be answered. The question of what can I use this camera for and is there a substitute to consider such as a cell phone camera. Also sending the video to a computer for processing is important to know. Editing using flat video mode would be interesting to tackle. Speaking of tackle, not football but fishing, is there a trick to the lens cover getting wet and developing water stains that might prevent it from happening?
    Thanks for the video!

    The Most honest Comparison?
    Really?
    You talked Nothing about the Over Heating Problem with the Hero 10, which seems be quite a problem.
    It has been said by many, that at around 20 minutes of recording time, it over heats. That's a pretty big issue to leave out.

    • @nomad0714
      @nomad0714 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @steve g, it’s not.
      Gopro is not a studio camera, it’s action sports, means you take it outside where there is airflow. It’s reverse, those YT’ers mislead you without saying that disclaimer. It’s not a long form camera.
      If you shoot 60/120/240/480fps at 4K/5.3K, you can’t defy thermal physics.
      To get around this, use a power grip like Ulanzi BG-2/3/4 and you can relieve some heat from the internal battery. Maybe open the battery door. Since Gopro is waterproof, heat can’t escape and there’s no passive or active cooling built in.
      Use it in outdoor and in water and you should be fine. And shoot in 24/25/30 frame rates and you can go for awhile.
      I’ve got the 7/8/9/10 and they are fine. I’ve got the Insta360 cams and apply the same and they all don’t overheat unless you use it indoor and high frame rates as it wasn’t intended for.
      Maybe what Gopro should add is a high temp option like Sony does and now Canon R1 has that as well. It pushes the high temps from the processor but will degrade it over time. The overheating is just a safety measure to throttle or shutdown to protect the sensor and circuitry.
      Think of it like cars, it can go much faster than the speed limit but there’s safety issues involved. In this case, it’s protecting the sensor and components in the camera.
      This review was pretty honest and showed some flaws on the GP10 that like any camera will have bugs and take some time to iron out.
      Most of these brands try too hard to please their investors and/or consumers and need to come out with a new product each year. There’s not enough time to fine tune everything and usually takes months or years of firmware updates to have it cleaned up. Better to come out with a new product every 2-3yrs but not every company has that option. And since consumers keep buying but complain, these companies will keep coming out with unfinished products.

      @Spicy Gaming,
      I don’t have the GP10 in hand yet (on the way) but if you mean using the GP audio adapter, you should be able to use it like the GP9 with external audio but not sure if it needs a firmware update like what happened with GP9.
      Alternatively, I sometime use the MyK (paid version) to control the GP with my iphone via bluetooth. I can record it and see live view (a little laggy) and it records on the iphone or external audio (I use the Rode Wireless Go 1/2) and it makes sure the audio is not out of synch and give gps telemetry data.
      Lots of options if you know how to go around it.
