That Phil was a work of art. The 1st clip on Shap, the use of the low wintry sun gave it a black and white feel. Absolutely stunning. Thanks for that. Barry
Fabulous video in a wonderful setting, well done. You cant beat the Northern fells for scenery and drama with steam. Your film "Steam in The Northern Hills Winter 2012" is a perfect example of this, a wonderful collection.
Stunning photography and incredible sounds there, Phil. The lighting on the first shot approaching Shap was awesome. This has to be one of my all-time favourites. Thanks very much for sharing...regards...Frank.
Even by your own very high standards Phil this is a wonderful piece of film. Even my wife asked me to say how much she enjoyed watching. The locos looked magnificent. Thank you for sharing. Regards Dale
Great filming in great conditions, i was in the support coach and at sometime on 44871 and i can assure you the 47 was never asked for once, the 5s performed magnificantly all day long, regards, stuart.
Superb video! Pity we couldn't get out because of the snow till mid morning. Too late by then to set off. Thanks for making the effort and sharing these wonderful images on you tube. Regards, John.
this is absolutely superb, really well done and enjoyable to watch. So nice when someone makes the effort to use a tri=pod and do some editing and those efforts are much appreciated.
Excellent footage Phil & team. Great performance from Mr Riley's duo and crews Can't believe how good the conditions were after all the dire forecasts regards Mike
Superb footage Phil from all locations with perfect light and exhaust, well done. At least the trains were still running this morning, otherwise we wouldn't have come out either. Steve & Graham
Thank you for such lovely views of two superb machines. Outside the Great Western stable...But in the good old days what we think must have happened during the last few weeks of Williams work with Swindon that Collet collected a select collection of useful drawings as a leaving present and was told to go and develop!!! Swindon did little except modernise Churchwards work! David in Reading.
Im going on this next January. Im gonna treat myself to go on this for my 20th birthday present as my birthday will be 12 days before the 2014 trip. The date is gonna be Sat 25th January 2014.
"thanks for watching", are you kidding. With all due respects to the other couple of Brits that I follow this was just the best. When the light and the scenery combine to the benefit of an adept camera operator it all just happens. Colour me green.
Well, that was one of the very best steam shots i've seen. I hope the 47 on the tail was for shunting purposes at the destination, don't think it's for ETH heating, as Mk1 coaches were mostly steam heated. Or is it assisting traction ?
awesome may I ask wot camera your using please I only take photos at the moment but saving for a video camera but unsure wot type and the videos your doing look awesome . thank you for shareing this video .
Does anyone have any stats on how many times those bureaucratic deseasils have had to be used to 'rescue' any train from failed steam locos? Wonderful photography and scenery - well done!
My dad keeps buying train videos, always has done for years... for what reason however, I do not know, because the videos on this channel alone are far better! And that's before you get to the rest of TH-cam!

TOTALLY Stunning.
The monochrome of the snow, huge cloud banks and double exhaust in the stillness of winter sunshine was stunning!
Amazing footage with a great steam train! Along with breathtaking vantage points the movie is simply incredible. Best regards from Poland!

Well, conditions to die for. Top notch performance too, since it looked as though the 47 was on the back just for heating.

Love the shots of the diesel looking a bit fed up as it's dragged along at the end of the train.

Hi Smithy. Brilliant Shots. Well composed lovely sound. Do you remember Ireland.
British engineering(what was) at its very best! Now if Dyson introduces a new hairdrier we think that's a world-class
achievement.
Thank you for watching.
No problem Smithy. Thaank you for posting such great images. Happy New Year! BigDave Liverpool
Thanks for watching and your comment it is very much appreciated.

Wonderful!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comment.

Brilliant footage filmed in less than ideal conditions. How many cameras did you use to record all those locations?
"thanks for watching", are you kidding. With all due respects to the other couple of Brits that I follow this was just the best. When the light and the scenery combine to the benefit of an adept camera operator it all just happens. Colour me green.

Thanks for watching and the 47 was as you say for shunting at Carlisle.
Fantastic footage. Is the Class 47 pushing? Stewart
Thanks for watching and the 47 was only on the rear for extra heating for the carriages.
Atmospheric !!!
Thanks very much and glad you liked.
Awesome machines
Thanks for watching.

diesels
@@colincooke6320 - Oh dear, well anyway, I know which black smoke I'd rather be smelling.
Black 5s versus Shap - no problem!
Lovely...
Thank you for watching.
All that power and speed from a bucket of water and a scoop of coal - it does make you think....
My dad keeps buying train videos, always has done for years... for what reason however, I do not know, because the videos on this channel alone are far better!
And that's before you get to the rest of TH-cam!
Wow!
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed.
WOW..!!!
Why drag that Diesel engine at the back?
