This is great! I really enjoy your videos. I would love for you to compare images from the 85mm at 1.2 with similarly composed shots of the 70-200mm at 2.8. Composition ranging from close up on the face to full body.

Not only does the 70-200 help with distancing but it is meant for sports so it has faster focus speed than the 85 helping with kids who move a lot.

I sold the 70-200 2.8 and purchased the 85. I never liked the photos from the 70-200, they looked very digital and I had to edit then a lot in photoshop. The 85 on the other hand is BEAUTIFUL! Eyes are razor sharp at 1.2 and everything else is smooth, love it.

I have the exact opposite! I sold the RF85 1.2 and purchased the RF 70-200 2.8. I was a prime shooter. I love the 85mm focal length and I have had all of them, from the EF 85 1.2 (stunning look and character) to the EF 85 1.4 IS (more generic character). But I sold them all for the RF 85 1.2. Because on paper it should be the perfect 85 lens. And after many shoots, I just didn't fall in love with it. It lacks character. All portraits look so extremely sharp that it crosses a line. Clients liked their portraits from my other lenses much more. The rendering looks digital. Sometimes messy bokeh. Clinically sharp. No character. I want that rendering and look from the EF 85mm 1.2 but that lens was a diva, and had focus problems and distortion etc. Then I found the RF 70-200 2.8 and I have fallen in love with it. It convinced me to go beyond prime lenses. Even at 100mm the look is so amazing and filmic and the rendering and look resembles my old EF 85 1.2. I do almost everything with my RF 70-200 now, it focuses faster, has IS, but most of all, the perfect rendering. It has the look. This video is the perfect example of that. Because I didn't want to completely dismiss the 85 prime lens, I also bought the Samyang RF 85 1.4 AF. It focuses fast, no distortion and the rendering and character are out of this world. The look and rendering and character wipes the RF 85 1.2 off the map. It is a shame that canon doesn't have an 85 like that. So now I have 2 lenses that I do everything with and my clients love their portraits again.

Hi Sergey thank you for your wonderful videos. Quick question: For uncooperative kids, why don't you use a long prime like 135mm f1.8 instead of your zoom? Wouldn't you get better results?

ha ha he's a well-trained model, knows just what to do! You were saying as it got darker 1000 iso, 1/50 sec shutter...how about if they're more active walking faster, running around more since your son was like the perfect young model? What max ISO do you go up to get faster shutter? Thank you!

6:47 - you got motion blur there. I suggest you not going slower than 1/200 shutter. Cheers!

Great video. Welcome back. I’m curious if you’ve had experience with the RF 85 f2. Obviously there’s a big price difference from the f1.2 but want to know how it compares in terms of image quality and in low light portraits.

I love your channel so much. The depth you go into is so much more helpful than any other channel I have found! You have answered a lot of my questions regarding lenses, photo lighting/angles, and editing. I now wonder about your camera settings working in manual. What auto focus settings you use depending on the session? Continuous or single shot? Shots per second? Thanks so much!

Great video! RF 70-200 (2.8) & 85 (1.2) are my “go to” lenses too. My 3rd favorite is my 35mm (wide open)
I’d be interested to see what you could do with a 35 with your skills.

It's really unfortunate how GIGANTIC the lenses just to take some photos. M43 is much much MUCH better for this... with a 75mm f/1.8 (150mm equivalent) you'll get some seriously nice results.
