In my view Rudd Krol was the best Ajax player that evening. And Manolo Velázquez was the best Real Madrid player. Kudos to Mariano García Remón for two outstanding close range saves. The great Johnny Rep (who would join Valencia CF two seasons later) missed two clear chances. I watched this match as a seven year old with my mom (had a crush on Amancio), dad and older brother on one of them vacuum tube TV sets while spending our mandatory Easter break vacation in Benidorm. Ah, those were the days!

Muy superior ese AJAX al Madrid,un equipo muy bien trabajado física y tácticamente con buenos jugadores aparte de la excelencia de cruyff. Ahora,si en ese Madrid hubieran estado ya tres tipos como Camacho, Juanito y Santillana,ojo.Esos futbolistas le daban un plus muy especial sobre todo en partidos de esa índole.Y lo dice un pájaro al q le gusta ver perder al Madrid hasta en los entrenamientos, pero no hay peor ciego q el q no quiere ver.
Que alegria poder ver este video. El partido lo vi en directo, fue malo, no se pudo ni meter un gol. Pero bueno, valio la pena entrar en el templo del Santiago Bernabéu por primera vez. Fui con tres amigos, Isidoro De La Fuente (Q:E:D), su hijo Alberto, Luis Álvarez Payo y un servidor José Luis Castro Riesgo, todos vivíamos en Mieres. Lo pase mal conduciendo mi Renault 8 por aquellas carreteras, con rectas larguísimas que querías adelantar y dudabas la de Dios, pues no sabías a qué distancia venían los de frente. Luego ya fui muy asiduamente, vi varias remontadas. La mejor la del 5 a 1 al Inter y con prologa .Los partidos de copa de Europa son de otra galaxia. Ningún madridista debería de morir sin ver siquiera uno. Llegaba sobre la una de la tarde y ya había un ambiente increíble que era lo que más me gustaba. Venían peñas de muchas provincias, hacías amigos por todos los sitios. Desde aquí quiero saludar a todos los madridistas de todo el mundo que son muchos y deseando que esta pandemia se acabe pronto para poder ver nuestro Madrid. HMSF.
¡Qué bonito era ir a Chamartín en aquella época! En 1975 ví al Madrid por primera ver en Europa contra el Estrella Roja (con aquél magnífico Dragan Dzajić) en la ya difunta Recopa y ganamos 2-0, pero los yugoslavos nos noquearon en la vuelta por penalties (Santillana falló el suyo).

Watched the whole game waiting for the teams to hit their stride. Never happened. Mis-hit passes, hit and hope link up, terrible first touches. Ajax defence was awesome, but Madrid were lucky their attack wasn't. Surprised they reached the semis on this showing. Middlesbrough would have given these two a game.

Qué cerca estuvo el Real Madrid de eliminar al todopoderoso Ajax, ganador de 3 títulos consecutivos de la Copa de Europa. El equipo holandés no era tan fiero y con un fútbol de lo más convencional, pudo ser vencido sin excesivos alardes por un Madrid de bregadores nacionales.

Watching a lot of these 70s & 80s games the stadiums were ram packed, football has lost its way , it’s a money machine now everything good from the game has sadly gone , you have to be loaded to go to a European cup game now it’s bad enough going to a prem game , back in the day you could have a job in a factory have a mortgage and a season ticket to top flight teams, those days are a million miles away, your lucky to rent an apartment today if your a factory worker ….

Me da la impresión, viendo este partido, de que la mayor diferencia entre el AJAX de esa época y el resto de equipos era más el concepto defensivo colectivo y la condición física que la calidad técnica, en esto último, siendo bastante buenos, no me parecen muy superiores al Real o a otros grandes equipos de Europa en esos tiempos ( Moenchengladbach, Saint Etienne o Liverpool, por poner algunos ejemplos)

Y es algo que siempre ha ocurrido: los grandes equipos de la historia del fútbol europeo, especialmente el Madrid de Di Stéfano, el Ajax de Cruyff y el Milán de Sacchi, más que por la calidad técnica se imponían porque tenían una velocidad y un ritmo de juego netamente superiores al resto. Ya decía Napoleón que las batallas se ganan con los pies (por la rapidez de movimientos), y no con la táctica o las armas de turno. Saludos

El Madrid tenía al menos tres jugadores más técnicos que la mayoría de los del Ajax,Amancio, Pirri y Velázquez, de hecho habían sido campeones de Europa en el 66, cuando aún jugaba Gento. Yo vi jugar a ese equipo y tenía más nivel que el Ajax, pero sólo ganaron una, la sexta, y el Ajax ganó tres seguidas; se fueron quedando viejos y no tuvieron recambios de la misma calidad. El problema de entonces es que no estaba permitido tener extranjeros y el Madrid no pudo reforzarse para acompañar a los tres o cuatro buenos que tenía; y, en efecto, faltaba físico, los holandeses eran más altos, más estilizados y más rápidos. Muy poco después se permitió un extranjero por equipo (o dos) y es cuando vino Cruyff al Barcelona y Netzer al Madrid.

Watched the whole game waiting for the teams to hit their stride. Never happened. Mis-hit passes, hit and hope link up, terrible first touches. Ajax defence was awesome, but Madrid were lucky their attack wasn't. Surprised they reached the semis on this showing. Middlesbrough would have given these two a game.

How close Real Madrid came to eliminating the almighty Ajax, winner of 3 consecutive European Cup titles. The Dutch team was not so fierce and with a very conventional football, it could be beaten without excessive fanfare by a Madrid of national fighters.
