You are right. People see the title and then try to make the lyrics fit that narrative.. and they don't really.
The lyrics make more sense of course, when you realise the true story.

A brutal break up causes PTSD so the song does draw a good comparison- especially for the children involved if there are any, often with lifelong consequences.

hey guys Chisel are about to embark on their 50 year tour this year starting in oct around Aus, they have sold out EVERY SHOW around the country (16). Their last show will be in Adelaide at the super cars race where a crowd of 100 thousand peps will be in attendance & the only way for tickets to the show is to go to the race... I am lucky enough to grow up listening to them & seeing them live multiple times, like a fine wine they get better with age.. anyway thanks for the reaction..

Jimmy is next level in terms of talent and ability. Every member of Chisel is amazing and when you put them all together it’s insane. We were privileged to see Ian Moss locally a couple of years back. it was an acoustic night - just Ian , a chair, two guitars and a whole bunch of talent. He was incredible.
Jimmy has such a huge presence that sometimes Ian’s talent is overlooked. Well that’s what I see sometimes.
We in Australia are blessed with so much talent and sadly the world missed out so many times. I love your vids appreciating Australian music. Rock on.

Sadly, your loss. But it wasn't "your country" that didn't appreciate them, it was a few record company executives and promoters. If Cold Chisel's music got out to the general populace, they would know how many people did appreciate them. Glad you got on board. Us Aussies grew up listening to this. They call Australia "The Lucky Country". Cold Chisel are one of the reasons why.

You mentioned that having both Jimmy and Ian being great singers was a huge asset to the band. You also mentioned the song was written by the drummer Steve Prestwich (RIP). He also released a solo album, and it is brilliant. You also see (very briefly) Bassist Phil Small singing backup vocals, and that's pretty rare. Don Walker [keyboards] (who writes most of Cold Chisel's songs) doesn't sing.

Cold Chisel came from the days of Band's having to start out playing Pub's with other bands to try and get their names known.
And Drunk Aussies can get real dark, real fast when a band comes on that cant sing or play. They wont tolerate BS.
Bands that couldn't entertain the crowd were quite literally Booed out and sometimes fights started resulting in the whole band getting beaten and then bodily thrown out the back door into the alley with their instruments following them flying out seconds later.

Saturday evening here in Aus. Spent a couple of hours this afternoon at vocals rehearsing this song, I'll be singing lead with my son on guitar for a concert coming up in a month or so.
I'm no where as good as Barnsy, but I'll do my best.
    Thanks for sharing.

Hello wolf hunters-love your reactions-play do something on Ian Moss-another Australian music legend as was every single member of Cold chisel-probably the best live Australian band ever.

It really is true isn't it-because of the live music culture-that we used to have in Australia-we have been forever blessed with so many wonderful talented amazing people-should you there to name them the list would be hundreds of names long-if you're going to be a music star in Australia you better bloody make sure you know how to do it live-because nothing else will do!

I've got my ticket to see Cold Chisel in October. I was lucky to get one of the last tickets in row ZZ, but at least I'll be there.

Brilliant performance from a band that officially had NOT performed together for 20 years.
My favourites ( live of course ) are One Long Day ( especially the version that starts with a different song and then blues itsway into One Long Day ), the improvised Georgia when Jimmy needed a break off stage, Wild Thing from The Last Stand tour, 1983 and many many more that reactors rarely discover.

Great live band, this is one of the best versions later on, I still love Chisel when they were young and raw, one of my fav bands ever and I'm a Kiwi! not an Aussie! Right up there with the best from anywhere imo. Ian Mioss is often overlooked outside of Aus and NZ, but he's just as good as Barnsey just different and obviously a great guitarist as well as vocalist and song writer, def held his own in the younger days! And here. Whole band is talented.
NOW go listen and watch the 1982 version live version, its remastered, but its completely different in the OG version, faster paced and with full band playing, both are sick, its just cool to know the OG as well as this!
As always love your reactions! Do more Aussie and Kiwi bands please!!!

As I was watching, you literally seemed a 1000 miles away.
I know and love this song, but you have a such a vibe that you felt very disconnected from you.
Which I found quite fascinating and intriguing,
Hoodoo Gurus have a decent discography and are worth listening too.
I saw them live in a hall in Alice Springs in the late 80’s and they finished with a few sex pistols songs.
    Very surreal.
REM began in 1980 and Hoodoo Gurus began in 1981.
You never know but they may have influenced REM as much as they may have been: but both sit in a similar genre.
    Thanks again
