i was gonna say ohhh no ohhhh no. the calming instructor...ive been on a whole day tour in venice with an instructor with a calming voice. it was so nice
that woman had such a calming voice, which i suppose helped offset the gruesome topics she was discussing! great place, always fascinated by old medical practices
So...who’s job is it to feed the museum leeches? And those poison coffin pills, I’d love to get ahold of that mold! They’d make some sweet earrings! Fascinating museum. Thanks for showing us!
The leeches may rely on generous donations from the museums visitors. I wouldn't mind donating a little bit myself to experience the feeling. Leach therapy and treatment is on the rise again.
While I sat watching this video, I listened to this woman, fell in love, married, spent the rest of my years rocking on the front porch watching the sunset, and listening to her soft, lilting voice, and died an old, happy man surrounded by a loving family. You should have been there... I don't get out much.
I knew a doctor that worked before the NHS started in the UK. He had a bicycle to get to his patients and was often paid with eggs or a couple of locally caught rabbits, anything the community could afford to give. The better off ones joined medical clubs, paying a fixed amount each month which was invested in order that the members could have access to the doctor.
You know leeches are back in style again. Some surgeons use them and are great for wounds to bring blood flow up the the healing wounds and eating the nasty areas of the wounds so they can heal. 😁. Sorry I’m a nurse and I like this stuff.
Hi Jacob, that was a very interesting museum and the lady was very knowledgeable. So many weird and wonderful things were used in history to cure people or make their lives more comfortable. An awesome video, thank you. x
Would love to go and see this museum myself! What an interesting place. So much to see there and learn about. These are the type of museums that really spike my interest!!!!! Thanks for another great video Jacob!!!!
My grandpa was a doctor, not exactly country, but not city. He was often paid in fresh vegetables and jars of preserves, etc. My mom's favorite is when he was paid in fresh sugarcane!
The small figurine at 2:18 is Mecki, the hedgehog. He was a mascot of German Television program magazine "Hörzu" ("Listen"). Quite popular during the 50s and 60s. I had two children's books about the adventures of Mecki and friends. Interesting, how this Mecki ended up in the Country Doctor Museum. :)
That was a very interesting museum. I remember when I was very little my Mom being scared of us catching polio and talking about an iron lung.Keep Sage ❤Keep Well❤
Very cool! I graduated from nursing school in '92 and had a ceremonial hat that we never wore except in our Nightengale dedication ceremony. But the teachers all got together and starched and ironed and folded them identically so we would always have a hat folded the Loma Linda way to keep! We did, however, wear dresses all through school. Glad that went away too! xoxo
Oh, and my mom was delivered by a country doctor on a farm in MT. Everyone had little pieces of their face missing as this doctor liked delivering everyone with salad spoons whether they needed it or not. My mom's side of her nose got messed up, and she had to have surgery and a tear duct rebuilt when she was a teenager. Her cousin is missing a little part of her ear. Lovely.
You uploaded this on my lunch break & I wanted to watch is sooo bad but I just had to wait til I got home! Country doctors/medicines just interest me. That lady sounds like Michelle Duggar.. her voice is very pleasant.
What a cool museum. It was set up really nice. The ladies voice kind of gave me anxiety, because she has that nice sweet hushed tone of someone who works at a funeral home.
There was a famous rural doctor, Hendrik Wiegersma, in the area where I live. Didn't know him myself, but my grandparents did. It was a poor, marshy area with little villages scattered all over the place. He use to ride the country at dark stormy nights on his big black horse for emergency calls. Later he was one of the first in the area to possess a car to cover the distances. He was clairvoyant, meaning he could see peoples future. Lots of stories, some books and a movie made after him. There is a museum about him (www.dewieger.nl/), but quite different from the beautiful museum you toured for us today. Thank you for taking us along on your trips to all those interesting little places!
I've been to Bailey, NC many times, it's a great town. Its reminds me of Mayberry from the Andy Griffin show. Thanks for filming this! My dad has been to this museum. Next time I'm in NC I will definitely check this museum out
What a beautiful little house that is. And a great little museum. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge to be learned from reading old medical books, which I do. You actually see the progression of techniques through time. I have them from the 1800s on up. Manteo, NC is my favorite place anywhere & there are great shops & antiques there too.
I’d love to see you go to the Pioneer Museum in Troy Alabama. www.pioneer-museum.org We lived in Troy when I was younger and would go because my dad loved it. Interested to see how it is now.
My grandmother was a midwife before we had a Doctor in my area.. she would deliver babies for chickens or pigs or money. Then when I was growing up we got a Doctor that owned a motel , he had one room as his living quarters and his office, he would give you medicine in a used PCH envelope and write the directions on the back lol
Went last week, I've been at least three times now and I always see something I didn't the last time, I remember going the week after I saw this video come out for the first time even though I've lived a town just a few minutes away, only thing is now they close on Saturdays but if you wanna come see this place it is very worth the time!!!
Hey wow my grandma had that same little porcupine figurine guy except hers was dressed in like over all's? With a patch on the knee and he has a little beer stein with foam on top. That's so crazy, they must have been a series. I've never seen another one.
Lol! The lady talking in the video sounds like that woman from the movie "Airplane"! Or the teacher from "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"! Great vlog Jacob!
Jacob, have you ever been to Zoar and/or Schoenbrunn in central Ohio? Zoar is a community from the early 1800's where life was communal and everything was shared. It is quite an interesting place..most of the buildings date from around 1820 or so and although some of the homes are being lived in, many buildings like the church, the communal greenhouse with gardens, the main house with the large kitchen and the bakery and tinsmith shop are open to the public...it is like you are living in that time. Schoenbrunn is close by, it is a town started by Moravian missionaries around the time of the Revolutionary war and was inhabited by Delaware indians. Most of the cabins are reconstructed but historically accurate, and the old cemetery is still there...a beautiful place. If you want to finish the story, Schoenbrunn was unfortunately right around the area where the British armies were moving in, and so the missionaries decided to move everyone to Gnadenhutten (which is close by and can also be visited) but the christian indians were captured by the British and were eventually massacred in Gnadenhutten (96 men, women and children I believe) and there is a memorial for them there. It is a fascinating place to visit and the history of the places is haunting to say the least! Love your videos Jacob...hope I have given you some ideas!
I am 1 year late and I was about to write the exact same thing as the comment below mine.I need that woman to come to my house and read me books. Her voice is so soothing.
This is really interesting! You should check out Blue Licks State Park in Kentucky. It's part of the Daniel Boone National Forest and was also the site of the last battle of the Revolutionary War. There's a museum there that's filled with all kinds of interesting things, even dinosaur bones and mastodon teeth! There's a lot of history there. They even have reenactments every year. And their restaurant is delicious :) I'm sure you'd enjoy it!
Very informative. And, wow, medicine has come a very long way, thank God. Glad I live now and not back then. Love anything old and from eras gone by, but the medical part of those days...yea, thanks, I'll stick to today lol. Great vlog
I missed this one . This was very interesting....!! I would love to visit this place in person someday . I was think that country doctors got paid with chickens or eggs like off the t.v. show little house on the prairie. I would like to hear more stories about your step father being a country doctor Jacob . That would be a great vlog too . Thanks for sharing !!
Wow I live in Middlesex in the next town over and work in Bailey wish I could've met the carpetbagger, I love the museum there's not much else in Bailey to see though lol
I have been there many times. Unfortunately, I am not versed enough in medicine to really appreciate what the significance is of everything that is there.
Great video !!!!! The women had such a càlm, comforting and sweet voice. She could tell me i have only 4 hours to live, and i wouldnt bat a eyè !!!!! Seriously though, it was very informative to say the least. I know of a doc that had gotten chickens and baked goods for payment !!!!! YOU GOTTA LOVE THAT!!!!!!
That lady had the most calm sweet voice!
Can't hear her ...
She has NEVER smoked a cigarette.
Ohh man, I know it!
I was about to say that she is a good mother or she is going to be a good mother
She was sexy untill i saw her...
The lady has a very soothing voice 😌
I noticed that too! She needs her own ASMR channel.
Yes, she did.
i was gonna say ohhh no ohhhh no. the calming instructor...ive been on a whole day tour in venice with an instructor with a calming voice. it was so nice
Jacob ramirez j I agree, she has the sweetest voice I've ever heard
Exactly what I thought. Wish she was my doc I'd be less anxious about visits haha
that woman had such a calming voice, which i suppose helped offset the gruesome topics she was discussing! great place, always fascinated by old medical practices
I could listen to her talk all day. :D
same
So...who’s job is it to feed the museum leeches? And those poison coffin pills, I’d love to get ahold of that mold! They’d make some sweet earrings! Fascinating museum. Thanks for showing us!
Thinking the same thing about the coffin mold🙃
I'd love to have earrings and a necklace combo with the coffin pill mold!
The leeches may rely on generous donations from the museums visitors. I wouldn't mind donating a little bit myself to experience the feeling. Leach therapy and treatment is on the rise again.
make a mold out of floral foam... it's easy
While I sat watching this video, I listened to this woman, fell in love, married, spent the rest of my years rocking on the front porch watching the sunset, and listening to her soft, lilting voice, and died an old, happy man surrounded by a loving family.
You should have been there...
I don't get out much.
I live in Bailey! I never thought anyone would ever do a video in this small town! Great video as always!
:)

same with the portugese in hawaii
I’d love to listen to an audiobook narrated by this lady. Her voice is angelic.
You know leeches are back in style again. Some surgeons use them and are great for wounds to bring blood flow up the the healing wounds and eating the nasty areas of the wounds so they can heal. 😁. Sorry I’m a nurse and I like this stuff.
Maggots that are grown and clean are used to clean out wounds. Maggots only eat dead tissue.
Karin I heard maggots were used also😬😮
Oh yes, I agree. Her voice was so sweet. That was very interesting.
Great video! I love local, specialized museums like that!
Hi Jacob, that was a very interesting museum and the lady was very knowledgeable. So many weird and wonderful things were used in history to cure people or make their lives more comfortable. An awesome video, thank you. x
i just found this vid... and i had watched it at least 50x because of her soothing voice
Is this a museum ASMR
Don't need no sedatives with this lady's voice tickling your ears haha
word
My aunts brother is a country doctor in NC. People would pay him in produce and meat andodd jobs like up til 2000 something. Not sure if he retired
Wow....that was extremely interesting! Made me think of Doc Baker on Little house on the Prairie
Would love to go and see this museum myself! What an interesting place. So much to see there and learn about. These are the type of museums that really spike my interest!!!!! Thanks for another great video Jacob!!!!

I just watched a video about man that still lives in an iron lung. His story is amazing. Great video!
Go to Lowe’s they have a Halloween animatronic of Zoltar for sale!!!! It is destiny that you should have it lol!
Very cool! I graduated from nursing school in '92 and had a ceremonial hat that we never wore except in our Nightengale dedication ceremony. But the teachers all got together and starched and ironed and folded them identically so we would always have a hat folded the Loma Linda way to keep! I could listen to that woman's voice all day!
Wow! It's so interesting to learn about the doctors in the olden days. Thanks for sharing!
Really enjoyed this tour, this woman seemed very well informed!

The lady is very soft spoken.
Wish I could have her voice in a locket and open it anytime I'm sad or mad. Lol
You uploaded this on my lunch break & I wanted to watch is sooo bad but I just had to wait til I got home! Country doctors/medicines just interest me. That lady sounds like Michelle Duggar.. her voice is very pleasant.
Yes! Very cool! Thank you! Happy to catch this so early!
What a cool museum. It was set up really nice. The ladies voice kind of gave me anxiety, because she has that nice sweet hushed tone of someone who works at a funeral home.

Since you were in Bailey NC stop by Wilson NC and visit the Whirligig Park. Worth the drive
What an interesting idea for a museum. The docent seems very knowledgeable.
Very unique! Love it. Thank you Jacob!
I love her voice! It's so calming.
Next time you’re around Townsend, you need to go to the wood and strings dulcimer shop. It’s the most Appalachian instrument. You’d enjoy it!
Nice museum lady. She knows her stuff.
I have wanted to go here for a long time. Maybe I will still get there one day. I live in NC.
That lady has a lovely soothing voice in spite of the grisly subject matter she is relaying ! Lol xxxx
I've heard that adventurers such as yourself would rather explore alone than with a tour guide? What say ye, Mr. Carpetbagger? Thanks for the video!
Same here :)
Great video! You gotta go to midgetville in nj! I'm sure you'll love it!
I've been to Bailey, NC many times, it's a great town. Its reminds me of Mayberry from the Andy Griffin show. Thanks for filming this! My dad has been to this museum. Next time I'm in NC I will definitely check this museum out

We lived in Troy when I was younger and would go because my dad loved it. Interested to see how it is now.
I went about two years ago... it was pretty neat!
That lady has a very sweet calming voice!
Usually the poison container had strange distinctive bumps to them. I had three nurses in my family my Mother, my Father and My Sister. .
She would be a great baby nurse with that voice!
Fascinating history. Great video!
I lived in Bailey for over 30 years. One of my best friends used to live in that house.
Went last week, I've been at least three times now and I always see something I didn't the last time, I remember going the week after I saw this video come out for the first time even though I've lived a town just a few minutes away, only thing is now they close on Saturdays but if you wanna come see this place it is very worth the time!!!
