the original vision for the ps3 was something else, it replaced my pc for a long time, it did mostly everything my pc could but with simplicity, more security and no viruses, music, movies, emails, web browsing etc, way ahead of its time and people couldnt comprehend it at the time.
I brought my PS4 to a place where they do cleaning and thermal change and it became a new console, it was impossible to play with sound. Do same with PS3. PS3 is still great, catalog is immense. I aim to get many platinums too. Have fun!
I grew up on the ps1, ps2 and ps3 with my older brother. we shared our psn account for over 10 years for the ps3. Our original ps3 broke back in 2016 and I was able to pick one up in 2021. Still playing it to this day and I have around 50+ games and counting since Im starting to pick up more when I find deals on ebay or when I have time to go to my local game store. I never grew up with the ps vita and I just got one earlier this year and Its amazing, have 12 games for it.
I hate to burst your bubble, but that will eventually die. And I don’t think it will last a year. That’s because the GPU aka (the RSX) is a defective chip. Basically Sony outsourced the chip manufacturing, and during that time they did not account for that these chips needed high TG underfill. So in short it’s a ticking time bomb of when this chip will die. When it does die, it will show the yellow light of death. 90% of YLOD cases are due to the GPU. RIP Felix did a very detailed video on TH-cam. Instead you should look into getting the GPU swapped, which is called a “Frankenstein mod” I have a Frankenstein ps3, with everything serviced, and even though it’s on the more louder side, it’s reliable. That’s because I have a 40nm GPU (A ps3 slim GPU) instead of the old 90nm GPU. Sony themselves did this back in the day with systems being sent into repair. However a Frankenstein service is VERY expensive because it requires equipment up to £1000. And not many people offer it as it’s a very difficult and long repair. However I hope all the best for your ps3
Yes and no you are right that the gpu/rsx will die one day as they are defective but you can do preventative maintenance like delidding applying quality thermal paste to the dye also bend the clamps for better pressure and jailbreak to increase fan speed or you could do a fan adjuster mod if you want to keep it stock i think you forget the part where RIP FELIX showed him putting a soldering iron on a faulty 90 nan rsx at 70 degree cel and it melted indicating that the TG underfill could not withstand those temps but then he lowered the temp put the solder iron back on and it didnt melt or atleast as bad because sony wanted a quiet console and not thermal efficient thats why a lot of these launch model ps3's died on syscon yes this console would indeed die in less than a year i'd say but like i said if you keeps temps low the thermal warping process will slow down and the console will last a lot longer i have a B00 and a CECHC03 both with 90 nano and there still live and kicking to this day after years of play but only because i delidded both cell and rsx with all new paste and thermal pads i also bend the clamps for better pressure.OH AND IM ALSO BUYING A FRANKY IN DECEMBER ANOTHER B00 TO MY COLLECTION 😜
This will definitely die via YLOD there’s nothing you can do about it. I’ve been there and done that and it’s not worth it to fix only to have it happen again. Keep the console as a keep sale collectible but also get a slim and a ps2 and ps1 separate.
@@GameWired so i dont think you understood what i was saying if the console has never had a ylod before then you can do things to keep the console alive longer YES all 90 nano meter rsx ps3 will die eventually but im talking about preventative maintenance to keep it running longer obviously if it has a ylod due to bad rsx then reballing and reflow is not going to do jack shiz it will either need a working rsx replacement or the frankenstein mod like i said i have 2 backwards compatible ps3's still working to this day trust me i know what im talking about check out nsc modz you will learn a lot there about delidding and maintenance.
Here we go, you have maybe no idea what you’re going into…. that rabbit hole is very deep… that model is from a technical standpoint fascinating but with regular use it’s a tricking …. If you start to go deep in the servicing process and error code reading you could get more time out of that cell and rsx….
Ps3 version of skyrim is literally unplayable..once you get to certain save file capacity it wont play anymore....Bethesda never fixed it...I tried many times with that game and it will always crash or freeze on ps3....
