Being promoted from within seems like it's easier... but, it indeed comes with challenges. If I have an upward move from one company to another.. my judgement won't be clouded as much when assessing the part of the organization I am now in charge of...as sometimes happens right after a new boss takes over... and the cold hard truth is there needs to be a stricter adherence to company policies... or it uncovers something that has to be taken care of immediately. It will also hit the affected employee differently if someone they really don't know lets them go as opposed to someone they knew for years as a colleague. Do we react differently whether we're aware or not....... when we have been so close to people..... who are now a level below us? This is the part where psychology and business collide.
Psychology and business are certainly intertwined. We work with people, and that brings it's own set of challenges. Sometimes when we're working with a new company and new people, we have a fresh start and no preconceived ideas. When it's with the same company and people we know, it can be harder because there's a history there that may/may not be favourable to us. I think it's the challenge of the professional world.
Here in New Zealand we have what you call Tall Poppy Syndrome people. When purchase my new car I parked far away and walk to work, because if anyone sees me hopping out the car they will act and talk differently towards me. But, the truth is working at work in the current position there was no way i could afford a car like the one I have, it was from side business through after work and all weekends to create a extra income stream..
