Used to play lots on Who Dares Wins 2 and Pitstop 2 :) Think atleast 1 of my favorite c64 games could have deserved to be on your list. It's Track and Field and is a game that I really recommend for anyone who haven't tried it. It were my favorite sports game and it supported to players, which were real fun:) On that game you had to move your joystick from left to run, which ruined joysticks over time. Think Track and Field might be even better today. Today you can use gamepads instead of joystick on emulators, and set 2 buttons close to each other to left and right. Then you move a pen back and forth between them in order to run. I used to do that on Internation Track and Field for ps1, and it worked real great for setting world records. Game licence is the problem here. I believe retro had problems and had to drop thalamus but to be honest the usb add games makes this a non point to mention now you can add any. Even the games installed around 50 of them have been reviewed by zzapp 64 and garnered an average of 80% so I'm happy with this really :-)

@@oldstylegaming Thanks for the answer. You, Sir, are a very important Commodore (64, Amiga, etc) source on the TH-cam. Thanks for your videos. I really love how C64 made sound. When you hear, you know that it is C64. Very clever Commodore audio engenering !!
The console itself is brilliant, the look and feel are spot on and the space bar even sounds so familiar that it takes me back to 1984. BUT I've had to repair my joystick twice already after 2 months. I don't think that it's flimsy but you have to push so hard because it's not very responsive. Also, it just isn't good for games where you need fine movements.

When licensing old games on systems like the Commodore C64, the issue is often who is the IP owner? Also, do you include fewer games that may be more expensive to license or not? With way over 5,000 games released for it, this was always going to be tough to get right.
Personally I think Gridrunner for the VIC 20 doesn't deserve to be second last, it's far more playable that around a third of those C64 games. I've played both systems and have no bias. On the other hand I've no idea why Psychedelia was even included. I now have a lot of what I consider my best VIC games running on TheC64, it's also a very good platform for VIC games.
you can put any game on the system via USB. Plus they never had the rights to the game. Besides there is a new app coming out which allows you to put games directly on the carousel vintageisthenewold.com/thec64-and-mini-ability-to-add-games-to-carousel-coming-soon/
It doesnt really matter, what games they put on the maxi, for me. But i know that if and when i get one, i wont put a lawn-mower game from 1983 on it. Or any spectrum ports, for that matter. "Maniac Mansion", "Zak McKracken", "Pirates!", "Ultima IV & V", i find missing on your list. And these days, if you are running "Summer Games II" there really isnt any good reason not to throw "Summer Games I" in there, too, since these two were combinable (you can play "Summer Games I" events in "Summer Games II", if you "own" the former). Also there is a couple of games that i found interesting back in the day, and which were also tachnically impressive, but which i wouldnt touch these days ("Destroyer" comes to mind). And then there´s "Kaiser" - has anybody ever found a version for the c64, that didnt crash when anyone starts the 3rd war in the game (come to think of it, maybe that was intentional, since it´s german and it was the 80´s, after all? - jk - i actually think it was a memory issue)?
This summer games 2 has the summer games events in...sorry I should have stipulated that... Destroyer is one I'd never played before but since last week have spent a lot of time on...it's a proper adults game as it's a slow burner but it's a really good game one you work out how to do stuff
There are some real classics on here but I am like you, I think there are some very noticeable omissions and some games on here that really shouldnt be. Licencing might be a big part of that but some games made the C64 what it was and to not include them really does devalue the package. I wouldnt argue too much with your placement of the titles apart from having Ranarama and Deflektor a bit higher
personally i would rather get an actual Commodore 64 than get a plug and play which chooses my games for me, even if it was before my time, it was the gaming computer before the Apple II became the gaming PC of that era. and because of that, there are no doubt countless good games for it, including The Transformers, way better than that NES game the Angry Video Game Nerd drank hot sauce in order to beat.
They probably did deals with Hewson, Gremlin, Epyx etc for these games, and bought the cheap one's, which is why quality isn't good. It's not like they could use pirate copies!
The graphics in Bear Bovver look really poor compared to the Spectrum version. Although I like a lot of Odin's games, like Heartland and Nodes of Yesod, there's too many of their games on this system. Can't beat a bit of Who Dares Wins 2. And I didn't even know Speedball 2 got a release on the C64!
I don't know. At least the bears in the C64 version actually look like well...bears The Spectrum version the "bears" look like lego men www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/87023-bear-bovver-zx-spectrum-screenshot-if-you-get-the-enemies-to.png

on the system that CLOANTO (and Llamasoft) owned the rights to since
they had deals with both companies. Putting games on there from EA and
Activision would have cost them an arm and a leg to get the rights and
then jacked up the price of the system. Besides you can put any game on
there via USB anyway
Game licence is the problem here. I believe retro had problems and had to drop thalamus but to be honest the usb add games makes this a non point to mention now you can add any. Even the games installed around 50 of them have been reviewed by zzapp 64 and garnered an average of 80% so I'm happy with this really :-)
So they just leaving it up to us to break the law now lol
@@oldstylegaming as its always been :-)

Is it seems to me that the C64 is your favorite system. Am I right? If not, which one do you prefer? Amiga 500? Atari ST?
Thanks for the video, bye o/
well i was brought up with commodores so i like them all lol... so for 8 bit its C64, 16 Bit its Amiga but i have a whole range of systems ranging from Atari 2600, through to Ps4 and i love them all...but the retro systems are my favourite
Trailblazer and Comsic is like Pc game Rainbow roads, that we play in 8th grade elementary school in 1998/9
The console itself is brilliant, the look and feel are spot on and the space bar even sounds so familiar that it takes me back to 1984. BUT I've had to repair my joystick twice already after 2 months. I don't think that it's flimsy but you have to push so hard because it's not very responsive. Also, it just isn't good for games where you need fine movements.
Better off with the real thing mate
@@oldstylegaming I agree but we have limited space at the moment, my wife makes me put this away when I finish playing so a set up with disk drives etc would end in divorce 😕
Yikes, if Winter Games is number one it says alot about the rest of them.
Winter games is one of the best games ever on the c64

Still beats that shit console that Sony released last year
Mail Order Monsters was one of the best games of its time on any platform. (A C=64 game not in this list) Had character progression that you could save between matches almost a decade before any other game did.

Still beats that shit known as the PS Classic, LOL
Totally agree. 👌
Belated Merry Xmass, dude. 🎆
You too mate
I LOVED Alleykat @ 12:17!!
the robot in the game steel is v.i.n.c.e.n.t from disney's the black hole :D
it looks like they chose games with no trademark or were very cheap
Mostly hewson and lamasoft I think
Hewson, Llamasoft and Epyx mostly
these are just the games because the software was provided by only a few developers : gremlin, odin, hewson
When licensing old games on systems like the Commodore C64, the issue is often who is the IP owner? Also, do you include fewer games that may be more expensive to license or not? With way over 5,000 games released for it, this was always going to be tough to get right.
Crazy golf was one of mine
Personally I think Gridrunner for the VIC 20 doesn't deserve to be second last, it's far more playable that around a third of those C64 games. I've played both systems and have no bias. On the other hand I've no idea why Psychedelia was even included.
I now have a lot of what I consider my best VIC games running on TheC64, it's also a very good platform for VIC games.
No sorry they aren't 2nd last they are just there at the end as they aren't c64 games ...I think that game is great
Nice I enjoyed watching the video
No Flimbo's Quest, no sale!
you can put any game on the system via USB. Plus they never had the rights to the game.
Besides there is a new app coming out which allows you to put games directly on the carousel
vintageisthenewold.com/thec64-and-mini-ability-to-add-games-to-carousel-coming-soon/
Armalyte, Bruce Lee, Yie Ar Kung-Fu, Commando?
Would the games selected to be used on the system be limited because of copyright reasons?
Yeah think so mate
Almost all the best and the classics are missing. They can be added ?
Yeah it has usb support so you can load then through there
There are some real classics on here but I am like you, I think there are some very noticeable omissions and some games on here that really shouldnt be. Licencing might be a big part of that but some games made the C64 what it was and to not include them really does devalue the package. I wouldnt argue too much with your placement of the titles apart from having Ranarama and Deflektor a bit higher
I played california games on NES,great game without suring and skatboard.
Those are my 2 favourite events lol ...I hate the hacky sack
Winter games is the best. Pooyan is great.
personally i would rather get an actual Commodore 64 than get a plug and play which chooses my games for me, even if it was before my time, it was the gaming computer before the Apple II became the gaming PC of that era.
and because of that, there are no doubt countless good games for it, including The Transformers, way better than that NES game the Angry Video Game Nerd drank hot sauce in order to beat.
Apple II is much older computer and never had any chance to challenge Commodore 64 as a gaming platform.
So many releases from Hewson.
At least the bears in the C64 version actually look like well...bears
The Spectrum version the "bears" look like lego men
www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/87023-bear-bovver-zx-spectrum-screenshot-if-you-get-the-enemies-to.png
Epyx topping the lists here I see, probably cos they had art skills better than a 12 year old
classics
I cannot wait until that new app comes out. Someone's developing an app which allows you to put games on the carousel without having to mod the system (for both theC64 and the mini)

The selection of the games and the missing keyboard were clearly the reason why the "the64" head such a bad success

Well the order of greatness is relativ. I think there are much better games available which deserve the word greatness instead of most ones in this video.
Yeah and they are in my 30 best c64 games ever video
You can tell you didn't grow up in America in the 80's. Not that it's a bad thing.
Yeah I have to agree when it comes to c64 and Amiga being in Europe (the uk) was better as far as games went. Other systems though like the mega drive (genesis) etc. Had some great American releases that we never got over here so it's swings and roundabouts really though
@@oldstylegaming I America had better c64 games but Europe had better Amiga games in my opinion.
Sup yo!
no chuckie egg 2 , no antirad !! no ghost n goblins . nope .....
No there are loads of good games missing tbh
@@oldstylegaming i like your channel regardeless ..
@@Hellastreet700 Haha I never picked these games lol....they are the games that come loaded on TheC64 console

Paradroid
show the c64 version
????
What the fuck are you talking about? SMH
it is the C64 version, dumbass
cyberdyne srite looks an awful lot like turrican!!!!! mind you most of the sprites especially the shooters all look the same like out of delta and armalyte ect...
Well Armalyte was a DIRECT sequel to Delta, so it was only natural that the ship would look the same
...greatness? XD
Well in order of ok'ness then ....
Is it just me, or those "in order of..." lists are completely random with some absolute garbage in top 10? All those winter games bollocks were uncontrollable mess, nobody has ever managed to land on the skis. Grid Runner the greatest game of them all? Really?
These are games that came with the system.... i never picked the games
dude where's revs, red storm rising, apache gunship, alter ego, they stole a million. airborn ranger, f19 project stealth fighter, .paradroid, way of the exploding fist, spy vs spy, elite. Archon i,II...the sentinal, mercenary.??..least speedball 2 is there.......p...................way too much arcade bs ..tbh
Erm.... This isn't my list mate this is a list of games that come pre loaded on TheC64
and Paradroid is actually in there...
