  • We're on a journey through the lively streets of George Town, Penang. Aside from the awe-inspiring architecture, and mouthwatering street food, we happened to experience a celebration that truly makes George Town special. Here are the things we did in George Town that cover most of what the city has to offer. #georgetownpenang #penangmalaysia #malaysiatravelvlog

    I had the opportunity to visit Kek Lok Si Temple myself last year sometime. It's an impressive place. There was no one at the funicular ticket counter, so I ended up walking all the way up, all the way around, and then all the way down again. I definitely got some exercise that day. And I remember thinking the same thing about the turtle pond and the signs. It made me laugh to think of "liberating" the turtles, like they were all trying to escape the pond. 🙂

      We talked about walking to the top. Glad we decided not to. But yeah those turtles are in there plotting an escape. I can tell

    Fyi, Pad Thai originated from Char Kuey Teow, when Thai Chinese tried Char Kuey Teow in Penang (which is near the Thai southern border) and loved it so much, they came up with their own version. This happened a long long time ago, apparently.

    • @TheDetourDuo
      @TheDetourDuo  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      oh that's really interesting. Thanks for explaining that. Explains why we like it so much

    • @EGO0808
      @EGO0808 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am afraid that is wishful thinking, it’s not true. Pad Thai may go back to being initally called Kway Teow Pad Thai, where the ‘kway teow’ refers to rice noodles, but it is not derived from or related to Char Kway Teow.

    Thaipusam is an important Hindu festival for the global Tamil community. Malaysia has the biggest celebration in the world, even greater than India and elsewhere. Therefore all communities in Penang are involved. Penang and Kuala Lumpur (Batu Caves) have multiple day celebrations. In Singapore, the celebration is for just one day.
