How can I turn my computer into a webserver that I can access from another client that is not on the same network? I saw a good question in here. This here also gives you the gist to setting up your port forwarding too, which is a necessary step. So make sure your site works good on your localhost, then right click and put "online" your WAMP server, then change your index.php in your root folder (c:/www/wamp/) to your website -- that's where your mysite.com is going to point to. But first you have to change your DNS Zone File to your public IP address. So, mysite.com, looks up your ip address on the DNS Zone File, which you set to your public IP and you set your root index.php to be your site's home page.

Im having issues maybe you can help. I have wamp setup like jn your video. I have port 80 forwarded in my router to my server. I have my dnh A host pointing to my public IP. If I ping my .net from an outside I will get my IP so I know the A host is right. I have an ftp server that I can connect to on the same IP and domain. However my webserver cannot be reached. Port 80 will probably not work since it is blocked by the ISPs for residential accounts. In the Apache configuration, use a different port like 81.

I think the reason why your port forwarding didn't work was because most ISP blocks incoming port 80 connections. Do you happen to know how to change the default port in which apache transmits data?

yes this is possbile, if your site is only going to be seen internally you have to configure your DNS server to point to correct name for IP 198.123.112.89. If you have DNS up and running on your network you should have an entry of 198.123.112.89 assigned to the name of the server. you can create a, i believe an A host record to point to let say tawanda.hello and assigned the IP address. when a user inside your network only types in the tawanda.hello they will get direct to your site, but make sure you change your virtual host to have your name shown up on the address. it's crazy. i might to do a video on this topic for you guys. hope this make some sense.

I am trying to access my WAMP server from other computers on my local area network, and I can access the Apache Web Server remotely, so i can access Web Pages, but I can not access the PHPMYADMIN remotely i keep getting
"Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /phpmyadmin on this server.

I can access PHPMYADMIN on the machine locally, i just can't access PHPMYADMIN remotely although again I can access the Apache Web Server remotely ... I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what the problem is, i have all of my firewalls disabled... I am running WAMP server on a 64 bit windows 7 Professional Operating System...
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated...

Order Deny,Allow is not in my httpd.conf. This section is totally different with the latest version of WampServer.
Moshikashitenai I know it's old, but worth stating here for public. I do recall what you are describing, "Order Deny, Allow". It is in fact "Require all denied". Mine currently is, "Required all denied" and my site is up and running just fine on my WAMP server. I would read on consequences of "require all granted" and when/why you would do that. Come back and let the public know what you did and how you resolved it. Good luck.

Since Microsoft in their infinite wisdom decided to stop support for the windows 2010 home server, which granted had limited server features but did the job of serving websites, files, mail, and databases, and was relatively inexpensive and wizard based deployment made it practical for those of us that are not quiet as Nerdy as we would like to be, and now windows users are forced to pay several hundreds of dollars for limited use of windows server 2012 application there are a lot of people with small home based businesses like mine (I sell Avon) that are desperately scrambling for some database solution such as WAMPP or XAMPP as an affordable alternative... And I am certain that there are many people like myself who would love to have the time to learn Linux (The all powerful "oz" of cyberspace) but in many cases we are working two jobs or managing a struggling small business and trying to keep up with our families at the same time... We need an alternative that does not currently exist...
Frankly i see a golden opportunity for some one with some decent coding skills to create a wizard driving application that provided a functional alternative to something like windows home server 2010 using open source alternatives in a wizard driving format for average users... So that we can have a separate server box, along with say a Desktop and a Laptop on the same LAN and remote access to our MYSQL database and PHP MYADMIN along with a Web Server, File Server, and Mail Server... Lot of tutorials are done on virtual machines which is kewl but they don't take into account real world problems like bad cables or evil spirits running around on a real physical network... Sometimes i wonder of those tutorials are intended to teach networking or advertise virtual servers???

if you click on your WAMP icon on the taskbar next to the time, you will get a menu and one of the option is "www directory" this is where you will drop your files, but make sure you create your virtual host to point your site.

I would love to see a tutorial on how to set up a local wamp server that i can access from other computers on my home network. Most of the tutorials show how to access the wamp server from out side of the local network but no one shows anything about how to access the server from other computers on the same network???
If you build the WANP server within your local network and the other machines are also part of the same network the only thing you have to do is login to your website using the ip address. if you want to enter a name like mywebsite.com you probably need to configure a DNS server within your local network.

if you want to make your home pc a webserver. you have to purchase a domain name service such GoDaddy.com. Purchase your domain name and the your public IP address of your webserver will be assigned to the purchased domain name. Meaning, when some type it blah.com in the background it is pointing your public IP address which is your home server. Again, your machine will be on 24/7 and make sure to have a tight firewall security system when doing this.
