Thanks for covering the topic of the mic picking up some audio, from an open-back. I had mentioned it on the Meze Boom mic vid so this is rad to see you touch on! Thanks!
I had considered these, but I believe you have already provided an answer for my VZR headset. Thank you so much for this review and the analog TRRS solution. Is there an analog to XLR solution for the mic for an amp that does not have a TRRS? I will 'patiently' wait, 😂, for your next content for some answers. Thank you very much for another good relevant review of these solutions. Take care, Sir.
I did not, no. It's going through a field recorder and I don't think it's the best pairing personally. I'll have to check other channels out to see how it compares. I haven't really used it much before this video.
Just purchased the Mod Mic USB2 after watching your review. that being said.. which headphones do you recommend to pair with this. I will be using mostly on Sim racing and not FPS. Wired or wireless is ok. thanks ! I did try the EPOS H6pro open back. sound is good but mic is bad so I returned it. Something same to the Feel of the EPOS hs6pro sound profile that is similar will be good. Thanks !
I've always been interested in ModMics since I first heard about them, and I am very glad that such a product exist since it's easier to get good sound from headphones, not headsets and a desk mic (or mounted to an arm) doesn't fit everyone's setup, especially console gamers. Sadly it's not for me since I use mainly (if not exclusively) iems for gaming
Can i request a setup video? How to get a ModMic 2 Uni + Y-Adapter + Xbox controller to work with party chat on the Xbox 🙌🏻 I think also of people will think it’s a very informative video 👍🏻
In theory if you use the Y-adapter like what i showed in the picture, just plug in to your controller as normal. It will work just like a regular gaming headset.
ModMic 2.3, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, and now ModMic 2?! Their naming is awful! I have the ModMic Uni 3.0 and I love it. I would have upgraded to the new version, but it's not worth double the price. I don't know why they keep increasing the price so much with each generation. The improvements don't justify the price. They are also low end heavy and it's not that good when gaming. A slightly thinner mic is better to not cover the game cues for your party.
Glad you found a mic you live! I think the others represent small revisions but this was an entirely new mic structure. It sounds a bit more clear to me, even though the bass presence is certainly still there. Although I agree I wish pricing would stay low, it seems most brands keep increasing it.
Yup! Some of them do. There are a lot of variables at play, but there's potential of that happening with a single TRRS connection for both mic and sound. As tech evolves, it has done better at rejecting/reducing some of that cross talk noise.
Both are wonderful and easily useable in any capacity tbh. The Meze is an easier solution to work with if you have dual 3.5mm inputs on your headphone, as I also like the volume wheel. If your headphones don't use dual 3.5mm, or you have a mix of headphones, this is the clear winner.
I have one of those too and the vid is coming for the roundup. It only works with certain products (it works great though) so it will come down to application.
Would be interesting to see how different these would be compared to small wireless mic usually used for camera and video recording like for example hollyland lark m2, dji or rode wireless mic etc.
Hey, Joe. Did you by chance audio-record yourself while playing a game or listening to music with the ModMic Uni 2 and it attached to an open-back headphone? I’m curious about your experience with it if you did happen to record the audio while testing this Another TH-camr, Techne, did exactly this with the R70x and the mic picked up a lot of his game audio, and my Uni 2 just arrived and after recording myself while listening to a song with it attached to my HD560s, the mic did pick up the music, and I listened at a fairly moderate volume. The mic in general seems to be extremely sensitive and unfortunately I’m not able to change the sensitivity threshold on Xbox.
I had to return my modmic 2, it's just too short (Not the cable, the actual mic). Maybe this is just me and my big head (I need XXL helmets for ref and one-size fits all hats do not fit me lmao) but I put the modmic mount as close as I could, literally on the front of the headset (Using my logitech g pro x2), and it was literally just at my cheek. I literally could barely even hear myself when testing the mic, I would have to take the modmic off the headset in order to get it close enough to hear myself talk. The mic sounds great, but ... Obviously I couldn't use it. So, I guess if you have a big head, it might not work for you.
I'm considering open backs (Edition XS going for $270, which sounds like a wicked deal btw) how much are these mics going to pick up when listening at comfortable volumes?
I use the Edition XS with the modmic (the 3.5mm version, I forget model), I don't have issues with the mic picking up headphone audio unless it's overly loud :) There is also a test for this in the video at 15:15
I'm using the ModMic Uni 3.0 with Edition XS and the mic doesn't pick up anything even on louder volumes. ModMic Omni is the one that is way more sensitive to surrounding noise.
God I miss the extreme low end bass of the XS, I ended up swapping it for ananda nano which worked for me better for processing information in busy games, but I absolutely want the xs back still for that incredible low end
I'm a little confused on which version I should get. I have a Schiit Gunnr and would using the headphone port on it be better than having the USB version plugged into my PC?
Toss up. The 560 S seems to be built better, but the Atlas Air has more potential once they sort out the firmware/wireless bugs that do not help with ownership experience.
Hey! can anyone help me? I am trying to find a good headset + mic combo for my pc for gaming. for headphones I was looking at sennheiser 560S, and for the microphone i was looking at the uni 2 bc its compatible with pc. after watching this i’m wondering if there is a better mic i can get that is compatible with the sennheiser headphones , and works with pc. is there any better mic than the uni 2 for pc? thank you!🙏🏻 im desperate for help lol idk what im doing
Hi joey i dont use a mic vety often im currently using the filo ft1 and i just got the filo ft3 the other day and they sound much clearer than the ft1 but the filo ft1 has more bass. The filo ft3 seems might be too neutral . How about the focal hadenys there open back where's your review on those or the Azurys but prefer open back headphones they sound better. i was thinking of buying those just want to make sure it has bass. For immersion. Really like the fiio ft1 but its closed back i want a open back for every day driver but the fiio ft3 seems like it doesn't have much bass. im driving them with the filo k11 Rzr dac amp i have no way of eq for more bass on ps5 i was thinking of buying the sennheiser 660s2 or the focal hadenys whats your opinion
I would say the Hadenys is the best of both worlds from everything you mentioned. It's a tad pricey but a wonderful headphone. I'm not sure how soon I'll release my review but I'm working on it!
It was pretty crazy to hear how it performed when editing. It really needs some EQ. With most big microphones, it's usually best to match it to your voice through parametric EQ and post processing. I tried keeping everything flat here, because you could in theory tune the ModMics as well and make them sound even more excellent.
I thought this would be a problem too but the clipping solution they use to attach to your headphones wires works great honestly. Do a couple twirls around the headphone wire and you cant even tell it's there.
Great coverage of the new Modmics. They really are quite versatile. Thanks for the shout out!
Thanks man! Everyone here should check out your channel! I look forward to your coverage on it as well.
Been rocking my ModMic 1 USB for quite some time now, 3 years or so. Best mic I've ever owned, super versatile and just works.
That's awesome!
Thanks for covering the topic of the mic picking up some audio, from an open-back. I had mentioned it on the Meze Boom mic vid so this is rad to see you touch on! Thanks!
Patiently waiting for the Wireless 2 to release
Saaaame
Same! I have the gen 1 wireless. It desperately needs a refresh. Especially to USB C
It’s going to release next year as confirmed by the official TH-cam channel when they replied to a comment on one of their newest videos.
My go to videos when I wanna find information about new tech stuff! thanks a bunch for the info.
Good stuff! If you have a boom mic that works with the HD620s, that would be awesome to see/hear in the huge mic roundup video
I use the modmic wireless with the 620 on ps5. Pure bliss
The Meze one sounded much better. I know this works on everything but tbh it doesn't sound that great. Great review as always!
excited for that video where you compare other mics because I’m curious as to which is better: the mod mic or vmoda boom pro
I plan to buy one of the two with an HD 560S

Timely since I'm in the market for a headset & microphone! ModMic definitely has better sound quality than what is on the gaming headsets.
the new modmic usb 2 sounds great. they did an awesome upgrade on it. did you eq the podmic? sounds different compared to other channels that use it.
I did not, no. It's going through a field recorder and I don't think it's the best pairing personally. I'll have to check other channels out to see how it compares. I haven't really used it much before this video.
Yet another great review! How well would you say the Arya Stealth does for competitive FPS? How’s the imaging?
Great video. I always found these ant lion microphones to be interesting
Thanks!
hey mate you mentioned you use a shotgun mic. would love to see the setup and shotgun vs other mics

Looking forward to the razer vid, wondering how it compares to the g7 se.
usb 2 sounds the best. the first 1 was really bad. 2nd one was meh. the last wireless one sounded pretty good.
Crazy how they are the same mic, but the mic preamp in the Creative GC7 wasn't as clear sounding.

Do regular headsets that have 1 wire for sound and microphone have problems with electrical signal stuff?
Yup! Some of them do. There are a lot of variables at play, but there's potential of that happening with a single TRRS connection for both mic and sound. As tech evolves, it has done better at rejecting/reducing some of that cross talk noise.
NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP!
We all got Rick Rolled, that’s funny. (The laptop text scrolling)
I actually think the wireless still sounds the best, I still use it at work
Nice! Are you going to look at the Kraken V4 Pro Wireless? :)
Just got it! Video coming in the coming weeks
@@GadgetryTech Great man!
Is there a throat mic for gaming? 3.5mm or USB?
I was shocked when the USB modmic sounded better than the Rhode.
How do you like these compared to the Meze? I am debating between the modmic USB or the Meze

One thing to think about is these are planar magnetic headphones, wouldn't the magnet from the mic affect the diaphragm to some extent?
It's way too far away for that
I feel like these are the only mics that people talk about in terms of adding a mic to a headphone. What about the Vmoda Boom Pro?
I have one of those too and the vid is coming for the roundup. It only works with certain products (it works great though) so it will come down to application.
How does it compare to the meze boom mic?
Would be interesting to see how different these would be compared to small wireless mic usually used for camera and video recording like for example hollyland lark m2, dji or rode wireless mic etc.
I have a video coming out in a few weeks that will compare a bunch of mic solutions! I'll try to include at least 1 or 2 wireless options.

Is the virtuoso pro better than 560s and all the other gaming headphones under 200 except the pc38x
Definitely not without EQ. I think the 560S still has the edge

it's an excellent value!
Does the Vmoda fit the sennheiser 560s?

Feeling the same way. Idk if I wanna go with a USB mic or not.

LOL. I had to

USB-C and a touch more warmth, a touch less "s" sensitivity would be perfect for me.

Yeah it's odd it didn't sound great. I didn't want to EQ it to fix it so the way my system captured didn't sound too hot.
