Thanks for focusing on the importance of direct monitoring. It’s the reason the USB version of this mic is completely uninteresting to me. That it sounds worse than the Uni 2 just adds insult to injury.
Great review ! What's best if I want to plug it into my audio interface ? I only have XLR or 6.35mm jack - 3.5mm jack to XLR or - 3.5mm jack to 6.35mm jack? I'm using Steingberg UR22 mk II. Thx to anyone who answers that !
3.5mm to XLR just like in the video. The ModMic UNI 2 needs "plugin power" to work and most interfaces do not pass phantom to 1/4" Link to adapter is in the description.
That mic sounds surprisingly detailed and stout for it's size! I know of some condensers like the classic Blue Yeti that sound "tinny" in comparison. Sidenote : Why does my mind shout "Melda" with their logo? 😅
im very bad at setting up audio things and idk if you use obs at all for recording but if you do would you mind sharing what filters you would use for this if you were to use it for streaming
If im streaming I probably wouldn't use any, unless the volume isn't getting to around -15 to -10. You can hear the mic completely raw in this video and it sounds great. But if you want something to make it more a consistent level you could add a compressor. If you feel like you need an EQ you could add one and shape you voice, maybe use a Hi-pass at 80 or so. Maybe add a limiter so you don't clip. There are all in one plugins today like iZotope VEA that will do most of this for you with 3 knobs. You can add VSTs in OBS. I don't know how old you are, but if you grew up in the 90's like me then your idea of a good broadcast sound is waaaaay different from what people like today. Back then and into the 2000's a broadcast sound was more compressed and bass heavy. Today people like a more natural sound, like a TV news person or a TV show dialog track. So very light compression to just even things out, subtractive EQ to remove any issues, and a limiter for safety. Or use nothing and just don't scream at the top of your lungs and you won't clip. And assuming that you are gaming, you'll probably need to pull down the fader for game audio by 5 to 10dB since most games are MAXED to -0.01 if you want people to hear you talking during battles in COD. You could also add a ducker to pull down game audio only when speaking. The included compressor in OBS has the Side-Chain built in for ducking. But i'd start with just turning the game audio down a few dB and do some recordings to hear how it sounds. You could also add things like noise gates/expanders, but these can make you sound really unnatural if you don't have other audio playing. If you do have game audio always playing, then feel free to gate out breathing when not talking. I would aim for the simplest setup that makes you sound natural. You also have the option of running your mic through a DAW or standalone app like Gig Performer and then running that audio into OBS fully mixed using Loopback.
mmmmmm’Wiiiiiiiirelessss, you say? 🤨🤔🤗🤗🤗😃😃😃 Dude I was looking to grab a Saramonic Blink system for my livestreaming needs. Actually asked them if they’d like data on live-streaming use but I’m not expecting anything, I only have fifty-sum’n subs but I stream every day so 🤷♂️ I’m hoping the wireless ModMic isn’t too expensive, and I hope it still has a TRS option. Thanks for bringing this to my brain-thing, dude! Question for an audio pro: Is there _any_ way to route my laptop’s audio (e.g., for sound effects, mic processing) _into_ a PS4 Pro? Crazy question lmao. I know to use a behringer UM2 to use any XLR mic directly on the PS4, but right now I’m only using my Astro A50’s mic because I need my system to be wireless. The UM2 came in yesterday and I tried simply using my M3 MacBook Pro’s headphone port and the UM2 saw the signal but it didn’t pass on to the PS4. My dream: One cable going into the PS4 and I can have all my audio come from OBS on the Mac. Im nuts I think. Not much going on up here 👉🧠🤤 PS. I have a simple USB 2.0 dongle with a 3.5mm jack on it. Don’t know TRS/TRRS, but ima try that, too.
Are you using the Recording/Streaming function of the PS4? I'm just trying to figure out why you want to input Computer audio to the PS4 instead of the other way around. I'm an Xbox gamer so I haven't looked at all the technical abilities of the PS4. I know you can use USB mics with the PS4 - but not sure if there's a way to input other audio sources. Your best bet is to flip it around. Output the PS4 audio into the computer. Again, I don't know your setup, so I may be telling you things you already know. I have a newish gaming channel too btw: SQ3X th-cam.com/channels/cYumVdvv7Z5Hy_aJVLCK7g.html Get a capture card, I use the AVerMedia Live Gamer Ultra 2.1 (review) th-cam.com/video/Sa_A_vO79t4/w-d-xo.html I use to use the AVerMedia Live Gamer Bolt, but it adds just enough latency to throw you off in fast paced games like COD (review) th-cam.com/video/e_v3-vlEKK4/w-d-xo.html Those cards do have audio inputs, but IMO it's better to run a USB mic into the PC or an XLR mic into an audio interface for the highest quality. But, you're needs may be different from mine. Then the PS4 (including all audio) will be routed into OBS (or whatever you like: Streamlabs, RECentral, etc...) along with your USB Mic or audio interface, plus any other PC based sounds. You can record or stream it all from your computer then. *It might also be a good idea to invest in a Windows computer since they are still better for gaming and streaming. I have a Macbook too, but I don't use it for gaming/streaming for several reasons. If you insist on using Mac, you might want to look into an app called Loopback from Rogue Amoeba. It can help you freely route Mac audio in ways that are not possible natively. I show a bit of Rogue Amoeba Loopback in the Mac Loopback Chapters of these videos: Audient EVO 16 Audio Interface - EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW 🔥 th-cam.com/video/9UD-Wq2Ly4A/w-d-xo.html Audient iD44 MKII Audio Interface - EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW th-cam.com/video/RnUANft6IN8/w-d-xo.html I see you are streaming right now and playing the COD Black Ops 6 Beta, that's exactly what I'm about to do 👍 Omnimovement is pretty awesome! How do you have such a low amount of subscribers and views? Great video and explanations!
I've asked myself that for the 15 years i've been on youtube 🤣 I should probably take the hint and just quit 🤣

Yeah the UNI 2 especially sounds good. It was surprising how it stacked up against my trusty SM7dB.
And you're right, the AA looks similar to Melda 🤣
