How to remove a jumper/expansion pak from an N64

After a 5 year search, I managed to find an Expansion Pak for only $40 on eBay and when it arrived I thought I was screwed until I found the tool. This video saved me a lot of annoyance and frustration! Super hyped to play DK64 and Majoras Mask after so many years!

Sad news, don't know if I'm doing something wrong but my games work with the Jumper pak (minus the features that the Expansion pak supplies) but when I put the Expansion Pak in, both "new" games either show errors or won't let me progress past the initial start up. Sad day indeed.

Never had to do this until I got the exp pak today, couldn't work out what to do until I saw this. I did it with the butter knife. Feeling a bit of a fool considering how easy it was! Thank you so much anyway!

I have some kind of weird pak with a silver metal part on top. Maybe a 3rd party expansion? Games act like it’s the expansion pak but it doesn’t look like one. I can’t pull it out and I have the tool

I bought one of the expansion paks off Ebay when they first came out with Perfect Dark and when I got it, the fucker had taken the red cover off a real pak and used blu tack to stick it onto a Jumper Pak which is what they'd sent me in the mail. Expansion Paks were always expensive. Still are.

The jumper pak is what comes with the system by default. The expansion pak adds additional memory that is required for certain games with enhanced graphics.

Yes. More ram. The expansion pak is the overall need to play the N64 at superiority level.

I never understood the jumper pak and extension pak. Does the Jumper pak have 4 or 8 ram?

The 4MB RAM Expansion Pack was an upgrade that was sold separately.
The Jumper Pack was included with the console and does not have any RAM at all. The Jumper Pack is simply a placeholder that the N64 needs when the 4MB RAM Pack isn't installed. Kinda goofy, but it is what it is.
