This story made me consider how poverty or living in a food desert can affect someone’s chance for success. A well-rounded diet’s affect on motivation, creativity, and focus should not be underestimated.
The problem is our modern diet doesn’t accomplish this either. The food pyramid was motivated by lowering costs, with no concrete evidence supporting it. A shame to society. (Research US obesity rates vs the release date of the food pyramid consisting of mainly cheap carbohydrates)

I particularly enjoyed the reflections on eating culture, and beginner runners. Oh, and the security checkpoint was so Aussie :D
I would caution people that beans do not have a complete complement of essential amino acids and this is not sustainable over long period of time unless you vary the type of beans like he did.
that’s true… Was very well done. Entertaining bloke. it’s strange that I was looking for some sort of a been induced epiphany… But none came. And he just ate a bunch of beans and felt fairly average about it.
I once did the potato diet for 30 days, nothing but potatoes which I boiled and then diced and fried them and put just a little bit of low sugar ketchup on them. I lost 25 pounds, had a clear head, and lots of energy! Everyone thought I was nuts but I had read about a man from Australia who had been living on nothing but potatoes for over a year and had lost 100 pounds. Only problem was, by the end of that 30 days I was so totally sick of potatoes that I couldn't eat even one over the next year LOL
@@kateb6893 i highly doubt it did. It’s like keto or that other no sugar diet from ten years ago (can’t remember the name, some doctors last name I think) they don’t work unless you stick to it forever. The people I knew that have done these diets put the weight on right after they stopped following the program.
It's your typical vegan effect. Could've replaced the potatoes with any other veggie with the same outcome. During the honeymoon phase you always feel great. Until your body's stores are depleted and the starvation related autophagy begins. Then all kinds of health issues set in and you feel like crap 24/7. Basically that's the end result of any kind of restricted diet. We're omnivores after all. We get our nutrients from all kinds of different food sources. Greens, fruits, grains, fish, dairy, meats, eggs... We can't stick to only one type of food for good, because then we get into a deficit of certain vitamins, aminoacids or minerals that only the other foods contain. We need the variety and we also need the right balance of it all. It's so simple but it's also not. Depends on your own approach to the matter.
@Mr know it all How can you compare a vegan diet to a diet of only beans or potatos? A vegan diet just means it excludes all animal products and it can be as simple, varied, healthy or unhealthy as you see fit. Any nutritionist will tell you that a diet (vegan or otherwise) that is varied and includes a wide range of different foods is more likely to be optimal than a diet that is restrictive, because your obviously going to get a wide range of nutrients and various other things compared to a restricted diet. All of the largest nutrition organisations on the planet agree that an appropriately planned vegan diet (a wide variety of foods, mostly whole foods, limited processed foods etc) is perfectly healthy for all stages of the human life cycle. There is so much misinformation around, and people claiming that your going to be nutrient deficient if you don't consume any animal products, but the scientific literature does not support this. Even using basic logic and facts can tell you this is nonsense. For example, most vitamins and minerals need to be replenished on a daily basis. Only a few vitamins such as b12 and vitamin A can be stored for any significant amount of time (4 yrs for b12 and 4 months for Vit A). Many millions of people have been eating diets void of animal products for many years and decades. I've been Vegan 6 years myself and I am still waiting for the magic nutrient deficiencies and brain fog or whatever the hell some people talk about. A lot of the time diet isn't even what is causing these people problems, there are many factors that go into good health not just diet.
This was a real eye-opening video into the human condition and what we, in life take for granted. We are all blessed for the food we have. Thank you, Beau, truly inspiring!
@@kerry_runs Just because they're healthy doesn't mean they can't kill you if they're all you eat for a long period of time. Beans aren't a complete protein. If he kept this up for a year he'd almost certainly have anemia and significant loss of muscle mass.

Only problem was, by the end of that 30 days I was so totally sick of potatoes that I couldn't eat even one over the next year LOL
Did the 25 lb stay off?
@Mr know it all
How can you compare a vegan diet to a diet of only beans or potatos?
@Mr know it all
