Does your course cover things like setting up LLC or what types of insurance you might need? And if not, do you know of any guides covering those topics that are specific to data consulting?
Incredible tips Ben! Nailing down the right sales process is one of the most important bits here, but no one teaches you that on the typical DE/DS journey 😅
I am curious. What documents should an independent consultant have? Other than a statement of work or managed service agreements. Are there any other docs you would add?
Love hearing independent consulting best practices and what to expect! How do you approach accessing these clients' data and systems as a third party? Do they typically just give you a license (in the case of, say, Microsoft 365) as they would a W2 employee?
Sometimes, usually more a "seat" vs a license, I haven't often needed Microsoft products that are on a laptop, and if I have the client has sent me a physical laptop.
thanks for this video! I'm wondering, since I'm more on the analytics engineer side due to wanting to be in the data a lot more, if a business needs the data engineering capabilities also, should I outsource for the data engineering part, and then take over the analytics engineering myself with all the reporting, dashboards, metrics, data modeling etc ?
I have somehow managed to travel very little. I do have one client who might have me travel next year, but honestly other than a 2 in person trainings last year, I worked from home all year.
no good answer to that, depending on your ability to work independently and land good clients with the experience and skills you have at that point of time. Better get people to approach you first ig.
At different levels you can offer different types of value. For example, even at an entry level, you can likely provide value to a company that just needs help with some quick excel analysis(I have done that). My first project was just moving a company from Access to SQL Server. So there are projects you can do right now that you could act as a consultant or freelancer! Just make sure you take on what you know you can deliver.
Interested! can you please have special pricing for people in Africa. 50% reduction is good but our earnings are way too low probably 20x less than those in US or Europe. It becomes difficult for us to participate in this type of good courses. Any help! Thanks.
