    Just watched a video of Eric's performance on 26/5/24 which was yesterday and there is no doubt that this man still has it! Still a badass. Still a legend. Had to come watch this video before going to sleep because hey, it just spits fire!

    You can literally track the end of each decade by Claptons hair cuts. He was transitioning from Chuck Norris to 12th Century knights squire here.

      So true Mike. Cheers brother. I got to see this live. But he stopped playing it on the subsequent tours I saw. A lot of people cover this. The song has gotten canned, the so called professional critics hated this whole record. I really like it. Fuck 30 years ago. I'm old I don't care. I jam this regularly

    Late 80s to early 90s was Clapton at his most untouchable level when it came to his guitar playing. Hands down.

      yeah, in this one the entire band is into it, guess capturing the Tina Turner spirit, Clapton having written the song with recording it with her in mind

    Clapton is, obviously, a master guitarist, particularly in the blues, blues-rock, and formative rock and roll style. But I can’t help but feel that at least 10% of his iconic quality- as it probably does with all people on that level- comes from the fact his whole life on camera looks like it’s worthy of a poster.
    He looks so fucking cool all the time.

    • @PiagaBiblica89
      @PiagaBiblica89 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Cannot agree 100%. The footage from the "24 nights" is incredibly cool (take as an example the Bad Love video), but there's plenty of gigs filmed before mid '80s, when he started getting sober, where you can clearly tell that he's totally wasted and barely standing (late '70 footage, especially), nevertheless still playing like a guitar god

    • @davidbrown5152

      @Ace Harris Clapton is a very sexy beautiful man, yes. But he did not always look this polished. He had a perm at the start of the Cream years which made him unrecognizable to what you see here. So make no mistake-the way he plays the hell out of the guitar and sings in his signature raspy powerful soulful voice is WHY he is epic.

      @GhostShip my bro, you're correct. His contributions to Cream, the yardbirds, movie soundtracks are completely unwarranted. Eric Johnson is a phenom, but Clapton is incredible and marketable. Eric Johnson has a niche arena. Now go back to your room and practice before it gets late and mom tells you to turn your speaker down.

    What makes 24 Night incredible is the supporting musicians, top notch. Clapton in top form doesn't hurt either.

    • @gcwoodsman
      @gcwoodsman 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      YES! The backup guys, from the guitar player, the drummer, right on down to the keyboard player. Without them, it would be nothing. They also provide valuable backup vocals to Eric as well.

  • @golfhound
    @golfhound 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Eric's guitar work is phenomenal on this piece. Anyone who thinks his best days were behind him is totally clueless. His guitar screams! This definitely shows that Eric can "bring it" any time he wants to. I started playing guitar in 1975, and Eric Clapton still amazes me. Such an incredible sound - a Fender twin combined with a Leslie cab.

    How many times must we tell the tale?
    How many times must we fall?
    Living in lost memory
    You just recalled
    Working on the sound of the band
    Trying to get the music right
    Two go out working
    Three stay home at night
    That's when she said she was pretending
    Like she knew the plan
    That's when I knew she was pretending
    Pretending to understand
    Pretending, pretending
    Pretending, pretending
    Satisfied but lost in love
    Situations change
    You're never who you used to think you are
    How strange
    That's when she said she was pretending
    Like she knew the plan
    That's when I knew she was pretending
    Pretending to understand
    I get lost in alibis
    Sadness can't prevail
    Everybody knows strong love
    Can't fail
    Don't be pretending about how you feel
    Don't be pretending that your love is real
    Don't be pretending about how you feel
    Don't be pretending that your love is real

    I had the privilege of seeing him at Sandstone Amphitheater outside of Kansas City. What an amazing concert, it was marred by the tragic passing of SRV and other members of Eric's management in that awful crash. Just two days before, and I was hoping to see him with Eric. Always loved Eric and wish him the best.

      arguably two of the top 5 guitarists of all time. I was too young to see the mastery of Stevie live. But Im glad Eric is still touring

    This song and the Journey Man album is fantastic. My comment is about the guitar. I was so fortunate be given by my parents a Fender Stratocaster American Standard with the same Lace Sensor pickups as the Eric Clapton model. I did sell it and regret that to this very day. God bless Eric Clapton!

    Clapton once credited Carl Perkins' vocal influence on his own singing style. "Mr. Blue Suede Shoes" influence shows in this performance.

    kind of a bummer he doesn't play those guitar licks throughout like the album version :(

    • @prathameshbhambure
      @prathameshbhambure ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because he was the only guitarist on stage that night. Obviously, you don't sing with chord strumming & then play the licks in between too. It'd sound amateur.

    Not long after this he would have an unplugged show song of Alberta where he forgets something before singing

    • @JeffW77
      @JeffW77 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. He had forgotten to take his slide off. He played three notes of Alberta and said "hang on hang on..." and laughed. Took off the slide and started over. 8) I believe "EC unplugged" was early 1992.

Would have been a twisty, turning, business, but amazing life!! Just curious, probably is just different years sometimes even...still busy as all get out
