      I almost guarantee you, it was bigger cal rifles with traditional bullets, therefore the energy you see on the package is theoretical. Most of energy was dumped into whatever bullet hit after exiting. Leaving small wound channel. Now if it was amax/eldm/atip or berger hybrids, it would have been one and done, either drt, or drop after 10-20 yard sprint. it dumps all that energy, creating soup out of lungs, massive trauma.

    I have a question as someone who’s not hunted. Does the hunter ever feel any pain from taking the life of an elk? I know that they aren’t endangered and that the meat is used and I’m a meat eater so I’m not being naive. I just would like to know what goes through the mind of a hunter once the shot is pulled and the animal is dead.

    • @busterdog6320
      @busterdog6320 2 ปีที่แล้ว +83

      Thank you so much for asking this. The answer is yes. EVERY SINGLE hunter who has taken a life has and will always feel for the animal. I have lived through this. When I was 10 I shot my first deer. That was very emotional! Not because I "murder an animal" but because it was first my time hunting and the first time I felt pure adrenaline and sadness and respect in my life. Hunting is one of the best feelings in the world.

      Iv never killed an elk but I am a hunter, yes I do feel a little bad for taking the life of such a beautiful animal but at the same time I’m extremely grateful for even having the opportunity of being out in the woods doing what I love

    • @gothicdancecrumps9687
      @gothicdancecrumps9687 2 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Yes I do, that's why I do my best to make it a quick death as possible. Never take the shot if anythings even a bit off, you could easily lose the animal if it escapes and it'll live a difficult life from injury. I remember my first time hunting, I had my rifle, was by myself, and there was two rabbits. It was deep winter midnight in my backyard and everything was so silent that you could hear the rabbits chewing 15 meters away. And I just sat there and held aim for about 5 minutes before deciding to take the responsibility of the shot. All I could think about was the fact that this rabbits life was now all in my responsibility and this would change everything. I just genuinely can't help but pause and think about my responsibility in this world, my impact in the forces of nature by killing them. The rabbit was completely unphased by me, he really didn't see me as any kind of threat despite aiming a giant black metal air rifle straight to it's forehead. This shit always hits heavy for me.
      I think what I find funny sometimes is when people tell me, "how would you feel if you were the animal?" as if I never had the thought. I've had the thought since I was 7 and I've completely accepted that there will be things bigger than us and we will be their pets, their prizes, and they will pin us to their walls. These things bigger than us will never make me feel negative, they have responsibilities in this world too and I don't mind them making an impact. It's simply nature, nature will forever repeat itself. Afterwards, I sometimes think about how many babies the animals had and how it lived life. When you go hunting, you're putting yourself in the animal's shoes. You live a day of their lives and see what they see. Even just my comment here doesn't fully capture the entire experience, it's just something that you have to experience yourself to fully understand

  • @davidbrick626
    @davidbrick626 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    To be honest, a few of these shots were not very good ones and shouldn’t have been taken. In my opinion, if you can’t kill the elk with your first hit, you’re either 1) a poor aim, 2) too far away, 3) you’re not using powerful enough weapon/ammo, or 4) unforeseen circumstances, such as obstructions unseen through the scope, animal moves at the same time you shoot, etc. Accidents do happen no matter how hard you try to avoid them but they should be exceedingly rare.
    That’s not to say that if you hit them with a kill shot they will immediately go down. Sometimes they take off running before they realize they’re dead!

    I love elk hunting! I'm not proud of lots of these shots. Lots of high shot that aren't critical hits, just paralyze the animal and make it suffer. Very unethical! Lots of high posterior shots. Usually the scenes that cut away quickly! And why would you shoot at an elk that is in the motion of falling down? I know the rush of adrenaline, it's great, but make a good first shot and it will pay dividends. Usually means more practice!

    • @woodchuck9303
      @woodchuck9303 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      However if you are confident with your first shot, you risk spooking them there after with more shots. Every true sportsman hunter takes the animal and eats it. But many times we'll like hunt for a big buck and not a small one. Same can go for any animal. So in that case we ALWAYS eat the meat. And also take him because of the trophy. But we never let them go to waste. If you only hunt for trophy which sadly some people do, that's killing them for a very wrong reason. Take an animal for the meat most importantly, than because of its size. Hope this helps 🙂

      I have hunted my entire life and I have taken exactly 1 bull. I hunt purely for the meat so I take a cow most of the time. But even when you do shoot a "trophy" animal meaning you take the antlers true sportsman eat the meat. True hunters have a great respect for the animals and would never let the animal go to waste. We take the meat for our use and then the guts are left for wild predators. Although some people do like to eat organs as well. But when hunters take an animal not an ounce is wasted.

    As someone who has never hunted, why do the elk just stand there after being shot? I see videos of other animals who go crazy as soon as they are shot? Are elk just tough as nails or what?

    Not sure what type of ammo some of these hunters are using, but they are not efficient at taking these guys down. They get hit in the heart/lungs and survive another 30 sec. Get better ammo man!

    What's with the second and third shots for an elk that is obviously already hit and standing still? Why not bring an M-60 with belts of ammo strapped on your body like Rambo?

    • @brandongilpin6157
      @brandongilpin6157 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The second and third shots ensure a quicker, ethical kill, and less suffering. Even after a well placed shot, an elk can run off and prolong the death. 5 minutes of running around suffering with a double lung shot? Or 10 seconds and it's all over?

    • @texastoast5202
      @texastoast5202 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's because these guys are terrible marksman and don't know shot placement for large game.

    • @heyman5525
      @heyman5525 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@brandongilpin6157 They're not running off though. These animals are hit, and remain stationary, and often succumb in less than 30 seconds. Anything more than that and you're just destroying edible meat.

    Why are those shots not just right above the leg in the heart area? Looks like they're just shooting at the torso wherever they can hit. Isn't that the non-ethical way to hunt and causing them more pain and suffering? And also, after long consideration, I've come to the conclusion that Elk are "Herschel Walker" dumb. They just sit there and steer even when your 25 yards away.

    Someone please explain this to me, I'm looking to move to Montana, I'm from a state where we have a ton of deer but not elk, I've never went hunting, does it cost 1200 to kill one elk? Or that license gives you the ability to kill multiple elk? I couldn't imagine paying 1200 to kill one I want to make profit killing them

    • @Mooskellunge
      @Mooskellunge 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Researching and learning the specific regulations in your area is the first step, you wont take nearly as many elk in a year (if any!) as you will something like whitetail.

    At 5:34 into the clip, he was just going in for a good ole sniff on a likewise possible female compatable, he didn't even have enough of a good inhale into the lungs, and bang, 3 bullets tore into his body causing death. I would have at a minimum, let him get a good sniff in, and take my shot afterward, hit or not, 😊😊😊
