I personally really loved Ultimis Tank’s last line: “Hmmm... Lemme think about it. But wherever I go, you know I’ll be kickin’ ass!” This seems like more of a send off to the player than the crew. Almost as if he’s talking to us which wouldn’t surprise me since ultimis tank is known to break the 4th wall.
I will give CW some fairness and mention they wrote it so it doesn't just ruin Tag's end. It doesn't use the old Aether. It uses the Dark Aether that was clearly shown to suck everything in, and it just randomly placed shit on its land to see if it works. It has old Aether elements but it is working off its own canon too.
As a Cold War fan I’ll admit I didn’t like them bringing the two back. However Ngl… in fire base z saving maxis jsut to gk into outbreak and hearing Sam speak to us, not as an enemy but as a friend. She’s like the opposite of Richthofen in Cold War I guess
I’m pretty sure there was supposed to be one more map with Victis that was apart of BO4s cancelled season 2 They were supposed to be in the Dark Aether (which obviously is a huge part of Cold War) And Samantha was going to help them escape. But imagine how insane a dark aether map would be when it was first created after the Tag Easter Egg with all generations of zombies stuff in it. but they’d escape and come out in the 1980s. Leading one to assume Victis would’ve been the playable crew in Cold War until they decided to cancel all that and go with selling skins for $20 a piece as their new business model
I agree with the ending, I think it is absolutely beautiful. About your point about Richtofen leaving himself to die seemingly without remorse, I think Richtofen hates himself. As much as it may seem like he has an ego, and he does, think back to when he killed his other self in The Giant. He described himself as feeling nothing. There's a look of pure disgust and disdain for this mirrored version of himself. It's that metaphorical self-loathing many of us feel in our most depressed states. Richtofen has sacrificed so much and tried so hard to do the right thing, and yet he fails again and again, and he cannot blame anyone else but himself. Richtofen leaving himself to bleed out with no remorse is him leaving behind what he views to be the more selfish, self-righteous version of himself to find a better tomorrow under Nikolai's leadership. Even in the end, though, he is still just as flawed, and by the time he comes around the campfire I think he accepts that and learns to let go of his failures. For so long he has clung to the idea that he can be "the nicest one" and one day save everyone, but he could never fit that impossible standard. There's a good reason Monty refers to him as the man-child, he's still growing as a person. Sorry for the block of text, but I love Richtofen's character development so much.
Panzer Patrol it’s very beautiful, think of it this way, Nikolai betrayed the crew not knowing if every version of them would go along with this plan. If even one deviated, boom, multiverse still exists. And they sent a corrupted Sam to the new reality, which in and of itself defeats the purpose of destroying the multiverse because she would create yet another multiverse by merely existing in that new reality.
That would honesty give me more reason to stick to my guns because if they can flip flop, who’s to say there aren’t more realities. We have a key to the multiverse as well. And I’m pretty sure if we destroyed it in real life it would just destroy our access to the multiverse not the multiverse itself.
Richtofen's character arc and development across the Black Ops timeline has been masterful. He went from being a deranged, egotistical mad scientist hell bent on taking over the Aether; to a man whose haunted by his past, future and present knowing that everything he's done has always meant nothing. And that it'll only end one way no matter what. He kept it all a secret as to not turn away the only three people he's ever known. Had he not gone down this path, we wouldn't have gotten lines like- "We'll fight side by side, back to back! Even if it's for the last time, Nikolai." From Dempsey. "I was the nicest one! You won't... Even... Remember me..." I definitely cried.

I personally believe that somewhere in another timeline our heroes got to live out their dreams they talked about in that ending bit w/o all this zombie stuff happening
It’s possible that they exist in the timeline of Cold War but we don’t see or hear of them because they never fought WW1 or WW2 where multiple countries found element 115 and tested on it. If they are in the universe then they probably all went to both world wars, then probably chose a combination of what both primis and ultimas wanted considering the 115 caused ultimas to lose memories which is why they’re a bit stereotypical which is why they’d be a mix of the 2. E.G tank in the Cold War universe probably trained new recruits for the army after the 2nd world war but still stayed around to kick ass! The only one who *may* have differed from their original version is richtofen since he seems to be up to something from the Cold War ending cutscene. TL:DR these characters are probably in the Cold War universe but never fought against zombies so are now old people who did what they said they’d want to do

So i'll just believe that everyone in the crews lived their ideal lives before dying. An illusion, a lie yes. But an illusion so real that they couldn't notcie it, and everyone died peacefully in their terms... They deserve this at least. A comfortable lie... I hope they find peace in death. Rizzo for the past few years I have loved your content and I really enjoyed this as the ending to aether and just want to say thanks. Whether it’s the funny moments with the spooky crew/leftovers to the in-depth reviews or music videos it’s always going to be great watching.

Amazing review, per the norm, but this one hit different. You managed to put emotion into it. When you said we made the choice to let go, that made me realize how much these characters meant to me. They were almost real, like family. Flawless work Rizzo, it keeps getting better and better.
I feel like killing the characters is a good ending, but a better method aside from a brutal poisoning would have fit better, and would have felt much more satisfying
g b we needed something that involved all versions of the crew because if even one version deviated from the plan, then only the versions that went along with the plan would be thrust into the dark aether. They merely destroyed their key to the multiverse, not the multiverse itself.
I would have loved it if rather, they did plan on fighting Monty but the Victis crew somehow fail and then the Ultimus and Primus crew are left with no choice but to send the children into some unknown dimension. Then from out the forest they hear the shrieks of the undead as they approach. They are left with no choice but to make a last stand and as the zombies approach we hear damned start playing as the crew are left to die
I love the clips you put at the end for the tribute video No real fighting like other videos (not a lot at least) so we can remember these maps on our own with our own memories from playing back to back with friends since like 2008 thank you Rizzo and thank you Treyarch, even throughout your flaws you found a way to give us an amazing story with a Beautiful ending
Part of what makes TdT work so well, IMO, is because the stakes were raised so massively, the scope of the conflict so impossibly huge, and the nightmarish monsters to intimidating, that it all winds up feeling so... tranquil. A small base in Siberia, three simple zombie types and hellhounds, and no "Apothicons" or "Hell Dimension" to speak of. The characters realized that the absurd nemeses they faced are partly their own doing, and that they've effectively already won. Or rather, they have everything they need to succeed. But like any CoD easter egg prior to BO4, once you've won, you still need to die. And any good match of zombies, no matter how well you do, eventually ends with the party being wiped out. "Accept your fate. Begin again!"
it's insane how far we've come for zombies, started off as a quaint little side mode then just became a whole new beast. I have really strong opinions against the newer maps and writing, but we all gotta admit that it came be almost beautiful at times, with incredible quotes and development with the characters and story. Shit meant a lot to me, and I've grown a newfound respect for it mainly from your videos on bo4, and just zombies in general. Fantastic review by the way, keep up the great work man
No matter how many times I come back to this video, it makes me cry every time I see the ending. This story was something that defined my childhood and im glad that you captured it all in a single montage
I’ve always respected elements of the ending and how personal the battle was. But I still feel that the cuts and dropped plot threads meant it didn’t gel with what was set up. That said, love the review and how well structured and fair it is. Plus that ending montage was nothing short of beautiful. Even if I don’t agree with your feelings, I always love how you put your points across. Awesome work Rizzo!
Rizzo. I've gotta know. What happened to your voice?! lol And it's funny you mentioned the final step of the easter egg where you guide Samantha and Eddie to the light. My whole party was not only in tears, but didn't want to end it. I had to move them on my own as if I had to struggle with my friends over ending the story. It was kind of funny for me. I guess you could say the real final boss was none other than any friends of yours that'd refuse to complete the story. Great review as always and I'm going to miss looking forward to Aether maps. This is truly the end of an era, but the birth of a new generation.
I tried to follow the story and I was doing really good until now. Now I am so lost. But I also don't know if I hate or like the ending. I like the goodbye but hate that the final map practically has nothing to do with primis and Ultimus. Thanks for the vid Rizzo!
Damn. This was really well put together, and that last tribute part. Oof. My heart.. I'll be honest, I really stopped caring about the story post Moon, and haven't played Black Ops 4, but seeing what Zombies has become as I've grown into an adult, and all the lore and symbolism behind it is very impressive and satisfying. Hell, I used to be afraid of the zombies as a kid, and really got into it by watching my old buddy play it. I've been here throughout all the good and bad, (barring BO4) and man it's been a hell of a ride! The Primus and Ultimus story may be concluded, but maybe we'll get more from the Tranzit crew, or an entirely new story. Who knows. Thank you for this Rizzo. This warmed my blackened shell of a heart. Thanks a million.

Also, seeing how Treyarch just got screwed by Activision by being thrown into the development of next year’s game after SHG and Raven’s infighting, it’s probably not hard to see why SHG got to support WW2 more has they still had that year to do so without anything really screwing them over.

last week i found your channel on my recommended and watched your reviews on the older maps, although bo4 was never in a perfect state your videos really make me want to buy them again on pc (not saying i will do it cause it expensive as shit here in argentina) and play the maps for fun, really miss the days when i would stay up until 3 am with my friends doing high rounds on ix (getting to round 30 ish and then dying cause we are trash lol), that might sound awful to some, but we had a genuinely fun time. anyways this is my last video on the bo4 series left to watch and i can say i want more zombies maps to release so that i can also listen to more of your analysis.

Honestly this finale is what broke my interest in zombies. I’ve never liked Victis or Call of the Dead. I wanted a boss battle, and I wanted at least a bittersweet ending: why don’t they at least directly tell us that a version of our characters live on in the new, fixed reality? It just feels like a slap in the face to end a decade strong of interesting maps and storytelling with a remake and a “everyone died” ending.
Here's some cheese: "If you wanna secure a better tomorrow, you're better off letting go of the present. It'll be one with the past eventually." Great video Rizzo, keep it up.

Even if Bo4 is fucked, you still play the maps (at least once *cough* Boomtown bo4) Other youtubers like Milo (mr blocked me on twitter :/) gave up on bo4 zombies, which is his choice, but he still acts like he's the spokesperson of zombies, like his opinions on bo4 are above others even if he barely plays it
honestly, i’m not a big fan of the ending, but i’m happy it ended like that. i’m glad we didn’t see our characters fight a big fight and die in a very gruesome way. i’m glad the last we saw from our characters was them sitting around a campfire, laughing, singing, and enjoying their last few moments on earth with each other. not suffering like they’ve been doing for 10 years. to this day, hearing the campfire conversations make me smile and the campfire song still makes me choke up
Great video, it's good to see you back. One criticism I have is that it sounds like you are too close to your microphone. The audio sounded very jumpy, like the audacity graph was getting too close to clipping. In your next video, I'd check for that. Besides that nitpick, you definitely have a great strength when it comes to editing. The pacing is great and every point you make has no sense of meandering. Good to see this series again, and I'm looking foward to your future analysis videos.
11:20 he was actually interviewed and clarified he would have came back, but they never asked him. That pretty much confirms last minute changes and budget cuts. I hate Doctor Monty and how he’s lazy writing 101 but I would have loved to have heard Malcom McDowell one last time in Aether

You also fail to take into account that every version of the crew would need to follow these actions in order for them to matter, if even one version of the crew doesn’t follow the plan, then the multiverse would still exist.
The Tundragun is essentially the Hellion Salvo with Ice element. In Casual it's always a one hit, and I only play casual so that all the weapons are more effective, and 5 hits to down is way nicer.
Never have I loved and hated a map at the same time as much as this one. I suppose, in a way, this map made me feel more emotion than any other bo4 map. Whether that's good or not, I'm not really certain. Anyways, your review was stellar as usual Rizzo, keep up the good work and keep on impressing me
The point about all the "red herrings", I think, was to lead the players AND the characters to believe things were going to go one way without doing so. Like, I think Nikolai talked about this grand war against Monty all the time because he can hear you if he has your soul. By telling them that, they believed him, and Monty could prepare for an encounter at the house. That was the key thing here. By misleading them only to kill them off, he laid the perfect trap to keep Monty at bay while he could work on the true plan.
also fun fact: technically their existence is a paradox irl because they just did zombies as a "lol ok" sorta thing they didint expect it to get so darn big and ultimis were introduced in shi no numa (or at least that was the first map with them) None of this was supposed to exist.
I've been listening to these in the background at work to pass the time and I just realized in the middle of the Good section: what if George wasn't necessarily zombifies so much as possessed in some way by the Apothicon god at the bottom of that area in Siberia?
Those are all my least favorite bo4 maps lol. Blood of the dead and alpha omega are the only bo4 maps I truly believe are awful, and classified is just kind of whatever
I really respect your view on this. I guess it could be sooooo much worse. But the way I always feel about these bleak endings is that, hey, guess what? If most people pull their eyes away from their phone or computer, they can see the bleakness in the world as it is. That's my reason for not loving this ending, even as beautiful as it is. I just want characters to get decently nice endings. PS: The tribute to George will always make me tear up.
Honestly, tag is a really good map. I personally love BO4 zombies and yes, it has many bugs and no original aether maps but we need to accept that bo4 was under budget and most of the people who worked on it left around dlc 2. Zombies was very good in this game although they could have done more, i still have hopes for the future of chaos and/or the aether reboot
I am surprised that someone other than me was pleasantly surprised that victis got another chance, I always thought that victis was a good idea but wasn’t executed good (except in buried). I hope In Cold War we get something that ties up the crew and give their ending some sort of closure
20:19 I think these will come back in the next treyarch game since presumably Gorod Krovi Nicolai is still alive in the dark aether and ultimas Richthofen too since he basically can’t die. Monty might be the announcer in Tag since the zombies eyes are also red like rev and Peter might help requiem.
Cold war having a Samantha maxis and the ending showing someone i knew would come back eventually just makes this map the lowest of the lows for me now tbh. Wish we could've just went ahead with Chaos instead
My little theory about why the ending is what it is: The storybeats were always (at least since development of Bo4) supposed to be the way they are. Like Richtofen giving the kronorium to nikolai and nikolai ending up killing all the main characters. But I find it hard to believe that there weren't any budget cuts with all that shenanigans about Sledgehammers 2020 CoD going on. So while I believe that the ending largely remained the same they didn't have the budget to make an original map because that's the thing I dislike about the map the most: To release a remake as the finale for a story that's been in the making for over 10 years almost feels... disrespectful. I know, they did change enough about the map to make it worth the money imo but still, the final map should have benn 100% original. And let's not forget the cutscenes. I don't believe for a second that they planned all along to make those weird slideshows instead of actual cutscenes for the final map.

My only gripe about the ending, is that I wish the other souls could've been saved. To have the original 5 that we knew, all leave together.
Amazing review, per the norm, but this one hit different. You managed to put emotion into it. When you said we made the choice to let go, that made me realize how much these characters meant to me. They were almost real, like family. Flawless work Rizzo, it keeps getting better and better.
I feel like killing the characters is a good ending, but a better method aside from a brutal poisoning would have fit better, and would have felt much more satisfying
g b we needed something that involved all versions of the crew because if even one version deviated from the plan, then only the versions that went along with the plan would be thrust into the dark aether. They merely destroyed their key to the multiverse, not the multiverse itself.
I would have loved it if rather, they did plan on fighting Monty but the Victis crew somehow fail and then the Ultimus and Primus crew are left with no choice but to send the children into some unknown dimension. Then from out the forest they hear the shrieks of the undead as they approach. They are left with no choice but to make a last stand and as the zombies approach we hear damned start playing as the crew are left to die
The biggest flaw in this map was that they nerfed Misty.
This alone ruined BO4

No real fighting like other videos (not a lot at least) so we can remember these maps on our own with our own memories from playing back to back with friends since like 2008 thank you Rizzo and thank you Treyarch, even throughout your flaws you found a way to give us an amazing story with a Beautiful ending

Part of what makes TdT work so well, IMO, is because the stakes were raised so massively, the scope of the conflict so impossibly huge, and the nightmarish monsters to intimidating, that it all winds up feeling so... tranquil. A small base in Siberia, three simple zombie types and hellhounds, and no "Apothicons" or "Hell Dimension" to speak of.
The characters realized that the absurd nemeses they faced are partly their own doing, and that they've effectively already won. Or rather, they have everything they need to succeed. But like any CoD easter egg prior to BO4, once you've won, you still need to die. And any good match of zombies, no matter how well you do, eventually ends with the party being wiped out.

it's insane how far we've come for zombies, started off as a quaint little side mode then just became a whole new beast. I have really strong opinions against the newer maps and writing, but we all gotta admit that it came be almost beautiful at times, with incredible quotes and development with the characters and story. Shit meant a lot to me, and I've grown a newfound respect for it mainly from your videos on bo4, and just zombies in general. Fantastic review by the way, keep up the great work man

I’ve always respected elements of the ending and how personal the battle was. But I still feel that the cuts and dropped plot threads meant it didn’t gel with what was set up. That said, love the review and how well structured and fair it is. Plus that ending montage was nothing short of beautiful. Even if I don’t agree with your feelings, I always love how you put your points across. Awesome work Rizzo!

And it's funny you mentioned the final step of the easter egg where you guide Samantha and Eddie to the light. My whole party was not only in tears, but didn't want to end it. I had to move them on my own as if I had to struggle with my friends over ending the story. It was kind of funny for me. I guess you could say the real final boss was none other than any friends of yours that'd refuse to complete the story.
Great review as always and I'm going to miss looking forward to Aether maps. This is truly the end of an era, but the birth of a new generation.

Damn. This was really well put together, and that last tribute part. Oof. My heart.. I'll be honest, I really stopped caring about the story post Moon, and haven't played Black Ops 4, but seeing what Zombies has become as I've grown into an adult, and all the lore and symbolism behind it is very impressive and satisfying. Hell, I used to be afraid of the zombies as a kid, and really got into it by watching my old buddy play it. I've been here throughout all the good and bad, (barring BO4) and man it's been a hell of a ride! The Primus and Ultimus story may be concluded, but maybe we'll get more from the Tranzit crew, or an entirely new story. Who knows. Thank you for this Rizzo. This warmed my blackened shell of a heart. Thanks a million.

The Salmon Server just don’t forget that this version of the crew merely destroyed their key to the multiverse, not the multiverse itself. If even one version of the crew deviated from this plan, then the multiverse would remain, and those that followed this plan would be thrust into the dark aether leaving the others to perpetuate the multiverse.
Not to mention they sent a corrupted Sam to this new reality, which defeats the purpose of destroying the multiverse because her existing would create a whole new multiverse.

last week i found your channel on my recommended and watched your reviews on the older maps, although bo4 was never in a perfect state your videos really make me want to buy them again on pc (not saying i will do it cause it expensive as shit here in argentina) and play the maps for fun, really miss the days when i would stay up until 3 am with my friends doing high rounds on ix (getting to round 30 ish and then dying cause we are trash lol), that might sound awful to some, but we had a genuinely fun time. anyways this is my last video on the bo4 series left to watch and i can say i want more zombies maps to release so that i can also listen to more of your analysis.

Honestly this finale is what broke my interest in zombies. I’ve never liked Victis or Call of the Dead. I wanted a boss battle, and I wanted at least a bittersweet ending: why don’t they at least directly tell us that a version of our characters live on in the new, fixed reality? It just feels like a slap in the face to end a decade strong of interesting maps and storytelling with a remake and a “everyone died” ending.

honestly, i’m not a big fan of the ending, but i’m happy it ended like that. i’m glad we didn’t see our characters fight a big fight and die in a very gruesome way. i’m glad the last we saw from our characters was them sitting around a campfire, laughing, singing, and enjoying their last few moments on earth with each other. not suffering like they’ve been doing for 10 years.
to this day, hearing the campfire conversations make me smile and the campfire song still makes me choke up
Great video, it's good to see you back. One criticism I have is that it sounds like you are too close to your microphone. The audio sounded very jumpy, like the audacity graph was getting too close to clipping. In your next video, I'd check for that. Besides that nitpick, you definitely have a great strength when it comes to editing. The pacing is great and every point you make has no sense of meandering. Good to see this series again, and I'm looking foward to your future analysis videos.

The Tundragun is essentially the Hellion Salvo with Ice element. In Casual it's always a one hit, and I only play casual so that all the weapons are more effective, and 5 hits to down is way nicer.

Never have I loved and hated a map at the same time as much as this one. I suppose, in a way, this map made me feel more emotion than any other bo4 map. The point about all the "red herrings", I think, was to lead the players AND the characters to believe things were going to go one way without doing so.
Like, I think Nikolai talked about this grand war against Monty all the time because he can hear you if he has your soul. By telling them that, they believed him, and Monty could prepare for an encounter at the house. That was the key thing here. By misleading them only to kill them off, he laid the perfect trap to keep Monty at bay while he could work on the true plan.

I really respect your view on this. I guess it could be sooooo much worse. But the way I always feel about these bleak endings is that, hey, guess what? If most people pull their eyes away from their phone or computer, they can see the bleakness in the world as it is. That's my reason for not loving this ending, even as beautiful as it is. I just want characters to get decently nice endings.

Honestly, tag is a really good map. I personally love BO4 zombies and yes, it has many bugs and no original aether maps but we need to accept that bo4 was under budget and most of the people who worked on it left around dlc 2. Zombies was very good in this game although they could have done more, i still have hopes for the future of chaos and/or the aether reboot
I am surprised that someone other than me was pleasantly surprised that victis got another chance, I always thought that victis was a good idea but wasn’t executed good (except in buried). I hope In Cold War we get something that ties up the crew and give their ending some sort of closure

My little theory about why the ending is what it is:
The storybeats were always (at least since development of Bo4) supposed to be the way they are. Like Richtofen giving the kronorium to nikolai and nikolai ending up killing all the main characters. But I find it hard to believe that there weren't any budget cuts with all that shenanigans about Sledgehammers 2020 CoD going on. So while I believe that the ending largely remained the same they didn't have the budget to make an original map because that's the thing I dislike about the map the most: To release a remake as the finale for a story that's been in the making for over 10 years almost feels... disrespectful. I know, they did change enough about the map to make it worth the money imo but still, the final map should have benn 100% original. And let's not forget the cutscenes. I don't believe for a second that they planned all along to make those weird slideshows instead of actual cutscenes for the final map.
