    This was the bike my instructor rode, back in ''99. A bit later on i got to test ride one and decades later it's still stuck in my memory. The looks, the "grunty" midrange,...a real bike. I think you said it perfectly: These are the bikes YOU need to ride. I'm forever stuck in the 90's. )

    The Daytona 955i was the first Triumph I ever got to ride. I knew immediately that I had to have one, but it took a while to make it happen. When I finally did, I wanted something slightly more practical so I ended up getting the Sprint ST instead of the Daytona and I still have it to this day.

    I have a year 2000, 955i Daytona. I bought it in 2003 so I've loved it for 20 years. I agree with much of what you say about the bike. The flat spot is deliberate as far as I know...designed to pass emissions tests at that rev spot. It isn't the easiest bike to ride slowly, but on open country road at higher revs it just sings and handles smoothly. The hot air is unpleasant in the summer - especially here in Australia where I now live. I've toured two-up with camping equipment extensively and the bike laps it up and is comfortable enough. You get used to the wrist ache and the hot thighs.
    Super review. Well done.

    Thanks Spicy. Great review as usual. I had a 1999 955i for a few years but had to sell as Mr Khan wanted £12.50 a day for me to ride it. (Ulez). As you say agricultural at low speeds but so much fun when you get them moving. My only gripe was the plastic fuel connectors in the tank were amazing at leaking and fairly good at snapping when trying to remove them, also the plastics got a bit rattled, I think hitting a fox on the A406 probably didn’t help. Luckily the heft help me stay upright, the fox didn’t share my fortune I’m afraid.
    For an old bike surprisingly you can still plug into your laptop to remap etc…..
    Anyway, nice job keep them coming.

    • @carlmayer691
      @carlmayer691 ปีที่แล้ว

      $80 fixes the fuel connectors.. Triumph had a recall -Triumph should have had a recall on the rectified issue .. their vendor built them below spec which caused failures . melting of stator input leads, blow fuse boxes, fuses...the tank is that nylon plastic done by Acerbis .. becareful leaving fuel in it over winter.. leave cap gas loose, or drain fuel...otherwise it will expand or paint bubble due to ethanol .. bubbles go away if you use a ethanol treatment or get a repaint which fixes it with better present day paints.. MUST MUST drop 1 tooth off front from 18T to 17T and should go at minum +3 rear .45T or 46T..unless you tour or ride at 145mph all the time.. it completely changes the whole character of the triple..cheap too

    Great video, I tracked one in late 97/8 (still have it), also have another road version, done the ‘ring’ 8 times on it. Easy to tune and modify, but it is a bike that demands you, and what you put in you get out of it. On a long circuit like the ‘ring’ for 10 minutes you are really working hard with the bike, it is just you and it, no electronic aids, no safety features (other than non abs brakes), you know as soon as you set off you need to focus, anticipate everything, but compared to my modern R1 when you get off the buzz and the rush and the sheer exhaustion is unparalleled.

    The weight of the clutch is always a funny topic. I drove a very old Simsom S51 Mokick once which has a tiny 3HP, singe cylinder 50cc engine but the heaviest clutch pull I ever experienced. Technology has come far these days. My 2013 Honda NC 700 has a much lighter clutch pull, even though it is not an "assisted" clutch.

    Aha finally up to date, TH-cam put the driving licence video on my Home Page and I recognised Hayling Beech which lead me to investigate further and I got hooked. I started from the begining and the hair was long and the language was fruity, then the language cleaned up and the hair went as did the cooking job and the mysterious girl friend (how much did I want to let you know that it would be okay as I'd seen someone that looked really nice in your future thumbnails) then came the full license and the bike reviews not to mention discovery of roads and places the other side of Portsdown Hill.
    I lived in Cowplain for 25 years but haven't been back for 10 so loved seeing the local area again. I'm not a Biker (yet) but my wife has her Mod 2 in next week. My middle son has a 125 and will probably do another CBT and then go for his full license when he has saved up a bit more cash.
    I would join patreon but every penny is needed at the moment to keep the family fed, trying to survive as a semi retired musician.
    Most memorable video still has to be the Crow stealing the bike, funniest thing ever ...

      Heli or LSL Tour match clip ons..which add height and pull the bars back..IIRC there's a trick that some T595 owners use which involves swapping the clipons right side on left, left on right.. pulls the bars back ....There is even a rear set lowering bracket kit available which lowers the entire OEM rearset bracket down 25mm -about 1 inch and back about 6mm ...1 inch is a huge gain in legroom..bars

  • @barebonesmc

    you wont get 145bhp unless you put the later high lift cams in, and then they blow up. my '99, 955I sits at 125bhp at the rear wheel with just the Lotus cams, theres Cadwell footage on the channel if you are interested, the bike is flawed, as with most triumphs, but is a great bike. steering geometry is VERY sharp, too sharp in many ways, and thats from someone who likes 16" front wheels. Dropping the stantions in the yokes is not a good idea IMO. tyre choise makes a huge difference on them too, the heat is not something ive experienced at all so im not sure that isnt a red flag on that particular bike. what they do have is brutish acceleration, but you cant get a full picture riding on the roads without loosing your licence, they make an INTERESTING track bike, they need a bit more care than oil changes though, the tank swells the ignition pick up isnt fault free and it uses 36 different triumph special tools on 1 bike !!! the 5k flat spot goes with a PC3 and dyno run lol, have fun 🙂 the high level exhaust frees the swingarm view too

    • @s1dew1nd3r4
      @s1dew1nd3r4 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      im really tempted to buy one at the moment, did you install the lotus cams in your 99? im coming from a zx7r, 750 srad and a 1999 fireblade for reference, is the 955i any more uncomfortable than those? i cant see it being much slower either?

    • @barebonesmc
      @barebonesmc 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@s1dew1nd3r4 no i didnt mate, mine was an ex Irish road racing bike that had been recomissioned , but they are a straight swap, youll need a PC3 to sort the tuning but thats about it, and the advantage is that the later more powerful ones came with high compression pistons and the hot cams, one or the other and the bike will still last long term, the later ones are just too highly strung for me, having said that, theres plenty of people love em, just be conscious of how sharp the steering is if you get one, they can be a bit like riding a bike with a 16" front wheel, steering is almost telepathic, but its easier to highside them than a lot of bikes. the engine is a wondrous thing though, the torque lets you ride it differently, and they still rev out, so you do get the best of both worlds. steering is a bit like the first gen fireblade, but you cant compare power delivery to any of the fours really, i like it, its just different, hope that helps

    Had the usual culprits back in the day R1 GSXR RSV 916 etc....this never appealed was an old man's bike when it came out and at least 5yrs too late; for the spec obsessed journos and purchasers. Mate I rode with had one with the TOR on it and it sounded beautiful, I loved the pearlescent yellow too. Hiatus from Sports bikes for me for 5yrs with Adv bikes only....bought a mint 17K 99 955i last Octorber and I like it for £2K. Hi-level TOR makes the looks and sounds better....the 99 onwards had engine updates, bit more power and there is no longer any emission flat spot, TuneECU with a remap etc helps too. Rear brake will need the master cylinder rebuild kit to sort. Riding position is awful IMO too low and wide at the front and feet high and wide at the rear, at 6' it is uncomfortable. Like most modern classics from this era it is a physical bike to ride you have to work the bike to ride it. Good fun though and as fast as any of it's peers (until the R1!).....rediscovering my younger days continue as I have added a GSXR1000 K5 to go with it.....makes you realise the Trumpet is a plodder in comparison.

    You need to get some facts straight. The HP at the crank is 128 for the first generation 955. Probably around 116HP at the rear wheel or a bit less. Torque is almost 75 at the crank as well. The 2nd generation 955(2002-2006) made about 146HP at the crank due to different engine internals and forged rods and pistons. I doubt you can up the HP to the 2nd gen level on a 1st gen bike. I own a '98. A more important fact is that the thermostat used in the 1st gen 955 is no longer available. If you need one, the bike becomes a parts bike or part of the livingroom decore.

      Yes and we all know that everything we read online is accurate. The carbon hugger was a legitimate accessory back in the day and those faux carbon covers up front are covering the airducts to the airbox. Factory original. With really low header pipes sticking out of the right side fairing you don't really want to lower the front end. Running tires with a triangular profile help with turn in. @@spicy110

      No. GM Saturns used the same stat. They have a revised one that I doubt would fit into the Daytona's housing. The stat comes installed into the upper half of the Saturn's housing. It might work, but I haven't tried it yet. Alt companies like Stant and Gates no longer make the original oem stat. @@s1dew1nd3r4

I also do not take ads for very good reasons. This is what I have based and grown my channel on so no chance I will take them UNLESS it makes sense and is something related and I am interested in, this tends to mean product reviews rather than placed ads. I price my patron at a level you would bearly notice the cost and you get everything for that no "extra stuff" for more money. As I say the channel is built on truth, honestly and fairness. 🙂
