- Engelbert shares some of his favorite memories on #FlashbackFriday. This week he looks back on the many live-set favorites from his third album 'A Man Without Love' (1968), Johnny Harris' arrangements and a song he "lost" to Frank Sinatra.
The title song from the album, "A Man Without Love" is featured as the theme song in Moon Knight Episode 1.

My father had that album, and he forbid me to play it cause I as a kid never took care of albums. Well I loved the album from him playing it, so I waited till he went to work and snuck a few plays. Well he had a day off and when I came home from school and went to get my allowance and he said "Dave you get nothing this week"! I said "Why" he said" you went behind my back and got a few scratches on my Engelbert album so went and replaced it with your allowance". So that was a good lesson and when I was ready for bed he came in and gave me the album and my allowance and smiled. Your much loved by my family! God Bless YOU!

Wow Wow Wow! My favorite album of Englebert. I got to meet him backstage at Westbury music fair in Long Island NY. I asked him about from here to eternity if he remembered that one much and he said " oh yes that was a great arrangement " and in this video he's talking about that song and others like Spanish Eyes... this is a very touching video for me since I pay tribute to Englebert in my show. What a wonderful Flashback Friday. Being Italian myself, I love Italian melodies and no one can do them better than Engelbert Humperdinck, MBE. I have a comment on everything you spoke about here, but I will limit myself. The Shadow Of Your Smile, to me, is one of the most gorgeous songs ever written and I love to hear you sing it. Please, please please, record it and put it back in your shows. I just adore it and you singing it...well, it's priceless!! Engelbert , that was and is a GREAT Album, I was thirteen yrs old when that album came out, I loved it, I had started singing lessons and couple of years after, sang 'Man without love' for my singing teacher, which she commented," you have a natural Tenor voice." Which led me to begin studying for an Opera career. You were and still are a Great inspiration Engelbert.!!!!
My dear old dad used to sing Man without Love as his sort of party piece. But he'd sing "every time I wake up, I take off my make up lonely as man without love.." He put in some ruder lyrics too. All harmless, but it made us laugh, even though my mum would get quite annoyed! Great music.

I love singing your songs all the time. I sing Quando Quando Quando at karaoke and I sing so many of your songs. Shadow of Your Smile is such a beautiful song but when I tried to sing it at my brothers memorial service I started shedding so many tears I had a hard time finishing the song because that is the song that my brother would sing to my mother and father. He would go in the bedroom and start singing Shadow of Your Smile. And when he died about 5 years ago and I tried my hardest to sing that song of course your version I started off okay but then I just broke down crying. In the meantime my family who are also really great singers were singing the song so that I could finish the song. As I'm talking about it I'm shedding tears now thinking about that song so I really do love that song. I really hope I can be able to personally see you perform again. I always have love for you

As I said here before: this album is in my opinion the best recorded album ever. With the highlights A man without love and Blue spanish eyes. There is not a bad song on this album. Huge vocal shape of Enge, and superb arrangements.

Wow. Going through so many songs brings back so many memories. All I loved hard to pick my favorite. What makes this so much better is the history you are telling behind each one. The little cute remarks about the singers and each great song. You are remarkable. Special to me is to see your beautiful smile back and that special wink you always give. You keep us wanting more of your life stories. Most of all I love looking at your adorable lips. No complaints here.

I saw him a few times years ago, but the last time was my favorite.. He was in the Merry Go Round that he called it.. It was Westbury Music Fare in New York.. I can't find a song he did in that concert.. I was 25 back then, and hoping someone can tell me the song he did. It was about broken love.. Either a Duke or an Earl had to Abdicate the Throne.. I was blown away by this song! He is a master story teller who could put you back in time, then of course his voice did the rest.. You could hear a pin drop! Huge standing ovation at the end! I want this song??
I believe the song is "We Fell in Love", written for the musical dramatization, "The Windsors". It's on EH's album "Hello Out There" which he sings with his daughter, Louise. Beautiful, indeed.

What does Petty,Springsteen and the B-52's have in common? Believe it or not, at our highschool parties in the eighties,they all opened for Enge, because he was headlining and this album came on at midnight.Back in the day my folks introduced me to Frank-Elvis-Tom-Neil-Glen-Charlie Rich and others,but as my 90yr old father still says,"No one sings a love song like Engelbert!"

No one can interpret a song like you can. You have worked with so many great writers, producers, and arrangers and Johnny was one of the greats. Everything to perfection minus the kitchen sink!! Superb album. No disrespect to the 5th Dimension great recording of Up, Up, & Away in 1967 but this album has the best recording of Up, Up, and Away I have ever heard. Even if no other Engelbert Humperdinck album was recorded after this album an entire Greatest Hits Volume from him could be released from this album. My Dad bought the album along with Tom Jones Live At Talk Of The Town album in the Summer 1968. My Family played them so many times more scratches and skips can be heard in them than the complete songs playing from them.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!! I play it all the time when I'm driving!!!!! I hope Englebert reads my msgs...that would make my day...I just LOVE HIM...BEEN a FAN OVER 50 YEARS!!!!!!!

In 1983 you introduced,here in Montreal Bette Midler's Wind beneath my wings. Tears were streaming down my face...The line "soaring like an eagle," I had to hold on to my seat. Otherwise I would have soared to the ceiling. I still long to hear it but it's not anywhere. Just a short while ago, I heard it in a supermarket. But it wasn't Bette's voice I heard,it was yours.

No one delivers a song like you do! I think you put so much thought into what you recorded, the arrangements and how you delivered your songs! I listen alittle differently because I have been around talent. I promoted grand ole opry shows back in the 70's and early 80's. I remember when you exploded onto the scene! I later ended up with 11 business's in retail, for 45 years. You remained one of my favorites thru the years. I have always thought you are a true gentleman with much charm, charisma and blessed with so much talent! The happiness you have brought millions. I have listened to your music through many moods and sometimes, troubled times. I have lost my whole loving family. I live in a very large home with only a couple pets. I fill my home with music, it touches my soul and sometimes bring me to tears. Most days, music brings me much happiness and energizes me emotionally! I find myself singing along! No one would ever pay to hear me sing! Lol

You are the best story teller and I laugh out loud cuz you are hilarious-it’s hard to pick a favorite song but I love “LOVE IS ALL”-your body language is a turn on-my mom loves your hands and eyes and I love the movement of your shoulders when you are digging deep with your voice-on TH-cam you are shown in concert and you say “I was coming back anyways” and you sing “MY WAY” that performance is awesome and boy do you sing that perfect-anything you would sing is going to sound fabulous-so I live over the hill from you in The San Fernando Valley-I so wish before my time is up here on earth that I can spend 1 hour with you-have a tea n cigar and I can tell you how my parents played you on their Hi-Fi growing up in Santa Clarita-it made an impression cuz I bought many albums when I was raising my 2 daughters and my baby, Dezarai knew all the words-I posted before how her dad and I took the girls to see you at The Hilton in Vegas--Dezarai got shy all of a sudden but we were in a booth and I have great pictures of this glorious nite-Englebert please stay safe and healthy-enjoy your stay at home in England but just know when you come back all your fans want to buy tickets-please can I have a cup of tea and a cigar with you? There’s a cigar place on Lankershim where everyone sits outside-I pass it everyday leaving work and then we can bring a hot tea from Starbucks and sit a chit chat-you can even do a background check on me-my record is clean as a chitlin lol-I’m a quiet person but every chance I get I brag about you-on my breaks I’m blaring Quando Quando and my work mates think I’m crazy-I work about a mile down Lankershim from Universal Studios and it would be easy to meet up-damn I sound desperate but boy meeting you and getting to talk to you would fulfil a dream of mine and we can talk about our grandkids-I have 3-remember you are loved by millions-👩❤️

Enge, From Here to Eternity was always one of my favorites. I was lead vocalist in a band for many years and sang many of your beautiful songs. From Here to Eternity was my favorite one to sing. As a matter of fact, there was an older gentleman there every Friday night and would request it. Of course I would always sing it for him. He would always try to slip me a twenty dollar bill when I sang that song! LOL. You have always been my favorite, I always try to catch you at the casinos in CT. I hope when I am 85 that I will still have a set of pipes like yours! I would love for you to share on video some of your vocalizing techniques.
