I was a little too busy to write something when this video came out, but it really gives me hope. Around 2018, I started to find 3+ of these mice in old boxes, and they've been my mouse of choice once again since. However, in the past couple years they've started to see wear again. Despite everything I've tried to keep them safe, even the one meant to stay home was showing some serious issue. While doing everything you did might not be feasible, and some damage was worse - like a *heartbreaking* crack as it slid to the ground when it wasn't secured while moving - this perfect restoration reassures me one of Microsoft's best and our favorite products might not be lost forever.
when MS put their minds to it, they made stuff that would survive nuclear attack. most of these mice are 25 years old and still going strong. kinda like IBM keyboards from the early 90s!

Anyone who has been around since the 1990's, that's pretty much their first optical mouse. Those things were pretty bullet-proof. Didn't matter if the little "foot" pads would go missing but it's those micro-switches (replaced in this video) that would be the only reason for tossing it. Nothing else on the thing ever really wore out.
Excellent vid, had 3 of these since early 2000's. One has developed a bouncey left click so looks like i'll have to replace the microswitch. Ta for posting the switch model
What wavelength is your UV light? Awesome work, my own IntelliMouse is still in use and seeking a cleanup. Coincidentally, the right button also has problems after 24 years.
@@MoranGuyVideos most likely hydrogen peroxide mixed with acetone and alcohol. If you cannot submerge something in 10% H2O2 however, you might wanna use something like mr clean magic eraser, it does wonders.
One of the best mouse ever.. I still use this mouse even today.. everytime one breaks, I just buy a next one on ebay ;) ..they getting expensive tho haha
I still have my mine after I replaced the one from mine gateway pc because it felt to small. I had the original packaging box but I was cleaning my room but I step on it and smashed the box and I was so sad.
It says Sasol and the about tab on his profile says Hong Kong. I think they've been holding out on the retrobright secrets and a link for it would be awesome!

The shell of many of these degrades to brittleness and cannot be restored.

I bought my intellimouse back in 2005! It still works like a champ! I've gone through 2 Razer mice on my gaming rig!
