Nothing is perfect for any of us right now but sight of the guards will always make me proud to be British.
I agree with yoyu wholeheartedly and although I am disgusted at the mocking of the Guards shown by these so called "tourists" not only at the Tower but at Horseguards day in day out. and the constant multiple photographs they can now take on those phone cameras puts a terrible strain both on the Guards themselves but also the Horses.
I do wish there was a no touch policy regarding the horses.
Pretty bad when people have to be told to move away, tourists are their own worse enemy

Fantastic footage not seen before, can anyone tell me what it was about.
It is called the escort for the word. where the officer in charge of the guardsmen collects the daily out of hours password { the word } for the tower of London from the head warden. the password allows entry to the tower when it is closed to the public. if you are wandering about the tower when its closed to the public and a soldier challenges you for the ''word'' and you don't know it. your day is going to get very bad very fast :D

How do these guards get so many medals ? What are they awarded for ? I served in UK Air Force as Physical Training and Parachuting Instructor for almost 10 years without any medals . No complaint , just interested !

Why does the guardsman still have ER on his vest. Should it not be CR now?
You do realise that ER is everywhere all around the UK not just on guardsmen's uniforms. It isn't going to happen overnight but it will be a very long and gradual process. There are still a few post boxes in the UK that still have VR on them.

@@MarlynMeehan Great Reply. Some people really do not have a clue as to the amount of tradition and work goes into changing a Monarch. Most people have never actually seen a Coronation yet, let along a second one. And by the way georgianman 1926. Are you sure they are called Vests??
@@dianapeek6936 @georgianman1926 It is not just the Tower of London that has guards in uniform at a Royal building. There are many buildings dotted around. When you think every single person in uniform at the Queen's funeral will have to have the cypher changed it will give you some idea of the size of the task. The correct name for the Yeoman Warder's uniform is a 'tunic'. These men and women are all ex armed forces and must have served at least 22 years.
Diana, I'm not sure where you are from but UK's channel 5 did a terrific series called Inside the Tower of London which so far has ran for 5 series which covered right up to the Queen's death. It covers a lot of the history and some of the ceremonial events that take place there.

Such a beautiful square with a lovely view of Tower Bridge. A shame that it has been spoiled by that enormous steel and glass penis that dominates the skyline. There are not enough words in any language current or past that can adequately express my complete disdain and contempt for modern "architects" who value the shocking and profane over elegance and beauty. The same goes doubly so for "artists" whose "works" are displayed in buildings that rival their filth and meaninglessness. Make art AND architecture beautiful and meaningful again!
