  • I've been waiting for a long time to get a pair of broken twill denim. The issue has always been that I didn't want to duplicate what was already in my wardrobe- how many dark indigo jeans can one guy own? So they had to be unique enough to justify owning another pair, and these Sand Slub collaboration jeans from Okayama Denim were perfect. Nice and slubby without being over the top along with that broken twill weave, these jeans have a texture that's very appealing. I'm happy to finally own a pair of broken twill jeans, and have been wearing them constantly.

I hated jeans most of my life, but this year I got super into weird selvedge unsanforized with as much leg twist as possible. It's still just as impractical as any denim but boy it's so much fun. And, really, taking those opportunities to have fun with the things you do is usually worth it.

Iron Heart is totally worth it! I also prefer mid weight denim so that's why I got their 14oz. The fabric is phenomenal. The quality really shows through compared to bravestar, naked and famous, unbranded. But it also depends on what you want. This is a pretty basic denim. No extreme slub. No low tension texture. But the fabric is certainly strong and has a great soft feel as well. Hard to describe but you will know when you handle it. I also really appreciate the heavy indigo on the surface. I like to be able to take a napkin to the fabric and rub off some indigo. Because of this they should fade absolutely beautifully.

Paul Caskey my daily routine is I start buttoning my shirt from the middle, put on my left sock, wear my jacket, then finish button up the lower buttons of my shirt from the middle down, put on the left sock and shoe, wear my tie, put on the right side of trousers, button my jacket, put on my right sock, the left side of trousers, finish the buttons on my shirt from the top, wear my right shoe, then unzip my trousers and go to work.

The very bottom fly button on my 21.5 oz Bravestars was insanely difficult to get in the hole. I think it took about 2 or 3 weeks for it to finally soften up.

I've got a pair of normal jeans in a broken twill and I love the look. However I would say I found them softer rather than stiffer. Also the zig zag is far more pronounced on mine. Perhaps that is down to the not being raw? I love indigo jeans. Waiting to wear through my collection so I can buy some ih's

I own a few pairs of expensive jeans (iron heart, railcar, levi's) but my favorite pair is my cheap pair of wrangler 47mwz rigid in their wingspan broken twill. The fit and comfort is perfect on my body. Great review! I always button from the bottom to the top. Helps me comfortably size down.

I know you live in a cold climate but have you thought about highlighting products for/from tropical climates? Here in Indonesia people love to make raw denim jackets and jeans. It's hot season at the moment, i'm still wearing my raws but finding quality footwear that won't cook my feet is a bit of a challenge (most workboots seem to be made for cold climates).
If nothing else this could be an interesting challenge....

Very interesting ... The first pair of button-fly jeans I made for myself, instinctively I started for the bottom up. I have always done the same since. Actually I prefer button-fly on all pants. When you close your pants you zip from the bottom up then close the button of clasp. So why wouldn't you close the button-fly the same way? Makes sense to me.
As far as these jeans ... not a fan.

Made by incredible craftspeople, by denim woven by the best makers around, with cotton sourced ethically, made and sold at small profits by relatively normal people with mortgages, and kids, and bills to worry about.

It's all personal preference. There is something about broken-in denim which began as stiff, starchy jeans. The density of the weave is tighter, and the features are typically higher end. That being said, I definitely like to wear more comfortable pants too. Everything has a time and place in my mind, and something to appreciate.
