Hi Jake. Thank you. Be sure to check out my MUCH newer and MUCH more evolved tuning guides on the FX Crown, FX Dreamline, and Air Venturi Avenger. They are much better than this old one and will apply :-). Best, Steve
Your hard work in making your channel into the gold standard of air gun reviews seems to have paid off. You look like you’re fulfilling both versions of the old saw, “Virtue is its own reward” and “Virtue is its own punishment.” You have the respect of both the industry and users, and consequently you’ve been piled with so much work I bet you’re wondering when you’ll find time for a life. You’re a smart guy, so I’m sure you’ll know when to tell us to pound sand and break with your family. Congratulations and I’m liking forward to coming editions.
outstanding trying to understand the FX Impact, answered many questions and explained how to on everything on the is rifle-it's a must watch but make sure you are ready to take notes!!
I got my FX Impact MkII in .22 at 997 FFS with the reg at a little less than 120 BAR and the hammer set on 4. Very happy. I highly suggest the FX chrono too. Utah Airguns pre-tuned the trigger tension. I didn't touch it. On Max it should have little play. BTW, leave the O-rings in the barrel. Harmonics effect accuracy. It's not for the sound. You don't want your barrel to oscillate much when you fire it.
With respect, FX Sweden (Fredrik) told me otherwise. The rings were added to improve the sound quality of the Impact and have no effect on accuracy. Hope this helps. P.S. I recently reviewed the FX wireless Chrony in 2 vids... one on this channel and one on my other, AEAC Home. Couldn't agree more. Great tool 👍
I have just received now ...25 July 2019...my brand new FX Impact Mk2 600mm barrel in .22cal....and out of the box my reg was set at 85 bar and shooting 100fps after a look around I found that valve bumper stop was set right in.....after screwing it out fully and winding the reg up to 125 bar then setting the hammer spring to push my 18.3 grain pellets to 920fps .......after that I set the bumper valve stop in till the 920fps dropped to 890 for maximum air efficiency.......works like a charm.
Hi Paul. My much newer tuning guides on the FX Crown & FX Dreamline are much more evolved than this old one on the Impact, and are still very applicable. Steve
Steve, this is a monster of a video! If i had an fx impact, i would have NO reservations about adjusting it after watching such a simple and thorough video. you have outdone yourself here, exceptionally well done.
As a .30 Cal FX owner from the UK Steve I find this video extremely helpful in tuning my rifle...the only downside to owning one of these rifles is that unfortunately the USA has the lions share of all the aftermarket accessories for these rifles ..eg X barrels/ liners/slug liners which are extremely difficult to obtain over here . I feel Mr Axelson and co should ship these accessories to EVERY country they ship the rifles too and not just the USA.... personally I feel this is a black mark against FX's otherwise fine reputation.....I guess it's all about money. Really enjoy all of your reviews, regards from the UK...
If it is not about money, it is about charity. Nobody can consider a producer of great products in a free market a charity, or they would not be in business long. Just buy the stuff from the USA if you can get it easier there. Maybe you could figure out a way to make more money also in what is left of our free market, so it does not bug you so much.
Steve, Thanks for keeping this video up. I used your tips to Harmonic tune both my .22 and .25 FX Impacts this afternoon. Both rifles had increases in velocity and the ES were both under 6 FPS and SD's at 2. As always your information is in depth and accurate. Aloha, Mike
Steve - I'm just echoing others at that point but this video is more informative than a dozen others I've watched on the subject, combined. I've had my Impact for well over a year but have been hesitant to tinker with fine-tuning it because I didn't know exactly how I was affecting the gun's functions. Thanks for all you do.
Yes I just purchased the FX Impact w/ the 700mm barrel in .25 cal. And it’s a great gun I read all the instruction on the tuning I put it @ 150 it shoots great but I think I’m going to tune it back down 145 bar; it came set @ 140 bar. The max regulator pressure is 150 bar... it shoots pellet’s hole-n-hole right now @ 50 yards.
My original Impact came as a .22 with telescoping shroud and it was very badly tuned from the factory. Before I discovered this, I shot it for months being disappointed and finally went back to shooting my Royale. When I got my .30 barrel I had to tune and that’s when I realized what a mess I had. Now I am back to the .22 and it shoots great. I don’t know if they have fixed this, but it was dreadful. Trust, but verify.
I’ve been thinking about a Daystate Wolverine R with the lever action because I shoot left handed. Then I saw a Mike Knipp video and he was very comfortable shooting the Impact as a lefty so I started reconsidering the Impact because it has the power I want. I’ve tinkered with my starter gun and now I’m comfortable and confident that I will not mess up the regulator on the Impact AND now that you explained the process I’m sure I’ll be OK. I bought a Gamo Urban, got the barrel shrouded, installed the GRT-4G, lightened the hammer, installed a BSA Buccaneer cylinder, and installed a Lane Roberts Lancet MK9 regulator. Now I get 50 shots at 21 fpe with less than a 20 fps and even at 60 shots the poi does not change at 44 yards. I did more like enlarging the transfer port and increased the valve spring resistance, but I don’t think that made much of a difference... I actually returned the valve spring resistance to original. I was going to get another Urban, but I really do like the power and versatility of the Impact. I think I’ll start with the .25 with a 700mm barrel. Thanks for this great video. I was going to pull the trigger anyway, but now my mind is more at ease. Now I just need to come up with the 2 stacks to purchase it! Again... great video!!!
The Owners/inventors of FX are also lefties and shoot the Impact in this way; th-cam.com/video/pPc_jqmKqmI/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/fsAmnAgTSHw/w-d-xo.html Love the Urban - great buy! Steve
Absolutely right, the Impact is for a smaller community that want to adjust the gun to very specifically shoot for a given ammunition and conditions. Picked up one a few months ago, but I had adjusting experience with a Marauder (love turning the wrenches). Perfect for me, not for a beginner! Beginners should stick with Wildcat or Royale. Excellent guns!!!!!
B G started with Marauder, Benjamin hit a home fun with price and accuracy and trigger. It is a gun you don't have to worry about when it comes to rough environments scratches bumps etc. Like you, I like flexibility . I think the Impact is without a doubt the best when it comes to performance and flexibility, its just ugly. That being said its perfect as being rugged for hunting and why I will buy one. Finally the x barrel has proven to be better than the smooth twist so thats a no brainer. The one thing most airgun manufacturers should do is support the barrel in some way along its length for rigidity. The Marauder does this and why its such a well thought out air gun. I do think most manufacturers are ludicrous with prices though. Happy shooting my friend!
Thanks for your effort in explaining this content. And you are the first person i have come across in this land of youtube to finally pronounce a pellet shape as DIABOLO, all too many write and dictate it as DIABLO.
Bravo! very informative. I am not a hunter but I love airguns. During my young age in the Philippines my late father made airguns for the hunters in my village. I just bought one because I love the concept of the gun. With your videos its encourage me to shoot again with airgun and maybe one day I will go hunting with my beautiful FX Impact
Steve - dude.... Seriously thank you for this video! I just got my Impact X and I LOVE IT - but.... I am a U.S. Army Trained Unit Armorer and this rifle still seriously worried me to mess with it. This video is gold man - keep it up!
I’m a complete shooting newb and especially so with air rifles, but I’m planning on getting stuck right into it (benchrest and small vermin extermination). I’ve been agonising over what PCP to go for (after a decent under lever), and I’m fascinated (& yes, intimated) by the Impact. I’ve watched quite a few excellent videos on them, but this one is by far the best. Just brilliant, exactly the right level of complexity for me to grasp. I’ll be watching this a few more times to fully get my head around everything, but at least I’m starting to feel some confidence in the possibility of owning one. Thanks heaps 🍻
Thank you for a well done job. I have had my .30 cal FX impact for over 2 years and did not know how to tune it as I do now after watching your video. After your video, I got it ready for deer hunting in Central Florida shooting at 79.30 fpe with the original smooth twist barrel after increasing the regulator pressure as indicated on your video. I ordered a 700mm .30 cal smooth twist x and hopefully I can get it to perform at the 85-90 fpe for deer hunting. Its shooting one hole groups at 42 yards. I like my two tone .30 caliber FX Impact. It shoots the JSB heavies 51.0 gr GREAT.
fx just made there sell double in the USA. good move dare i say take over. Now all they need is a 300$ starter gun. A better under standing means sells and more thing to play with plus you get to us tools. its every guys dream. Thanks steve now i got to get one.
as a prospective new enthusiast to this sport, I greatly appreciate the terrific job you have done here to take the intimidation factor out of this...GREAT job
Thank you. Please be sure to check out my much later tuning guides on the Crown, Dreamline, and Maverick. They are MUCH more evolved than this one and are all applicable to the Impact 👍
Thank you very much for all this information. I just bought the FX Impact X compact and two additional barrel kits and thought " this looks complicated"...but your video explains it all.
You're welcome. Check out the Crown and Dreamline tuning guides. They're much more recent and much more evolved than this vid. Both will apply to your Impact. Steve
Boy did I need to watch this video...I am a proud new owner of the FX Impact X with Power Plenum. It's in 25 cal and I have a 35 cal kit coming for it. Now I know how simple it is to change calibers out
thank you for this detailed description of the x barrel system. I was having problems with my .22 fixed shroud. my point of impact would keep moving after about 6 shots. I removed the 3 o rings that were holding the insert. instantly the groups held steady and tightened. again, thank you.
I experienced the same thing with .22 Mk2 with 700mm barrel. Groups were around 1” at 50 yards. I removed donnyfl, not much improvement. Messed around with probe and side shot magazine for a bit and began single loading by hand. It was better but still had several fliers. Took barrel out and cleaned it, same problem. Finally, I removed the 4 barrel liner o-rings because the barrel liner is supported at the start and end by internal o-rings anyway. Took it back out and now it shoots 1/2” groups at 50. Not sure where FX was going with these o-rings but they can mess up a good rifle in my opinion at least.
GREAT I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE DOING A VLOG,ON AIRGUNS,AS YOU ARE THE MOST TRUST WORTHY PERSON I HAVE SEEN DOING THIS . AND NON INTIMIDATING . KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK .. GOD BLESS AND GOOD SHOOTIN'
Overall, great set-up session. Nice, easy way to inform and stay interesting. Thank you so much, and the 49 minutes flashed by rather quickly. About as quickly as the ceiling fan behind you. ;). A few comments from me that are spoken in the best wishes and intent, and I know that this is a 2 year old review, but your work here is still relevant in 2020 with the new air guns. I just got the newest version (FX x Impact MK 2) in December 2020. Information is King. My intent is to add to what you showed us here, based on my initial unboxing and checking it over. After watching your video, Here is what I will address: 1. What gets damaged and why. 2. The need for FX to spell that out in HUGE BOLD LETTERS in the abbreviated manual included with the airgun. (Why no blow-up diagram, is beyond me.) 3. For $2100 FX should have included a rudimentary $2 tool set to cover all the expected adjustments along with barrel removal tool. They spent more money than that on the very nicely formatted and printed-on-heavy-card-stock-paper, but incomplete user manual. Even scope rings come with the needed tool. But first, my initial experience. Just got my new FX x Impact MK 2 with the new power plenum!!. I was so excited that I went over every moving part and adjustment. I thought it was broke because the little slide thingy, next to the power knob (ABCD...MIN...1234...MAX) would slide easily with no fixed place. Nothing about what it does is written in my manual. Decided to search the web for the answer and found this video. Thank you very much, because you explain what it does and how to adjust it for even more flexibility, but you didn't answer what gets damaged nor WHY IT DAMAGES the gun to turn the knob while cocked. In all fairness, neither does the FX manual. So, while reading the warnings again to "NOT adjust that knob when the gun is cocked", I poked and prodded it and found that if I pushed the slide gently against the knob with my finger and turned the knob, the slide would push away and back again as the knob turned. What if I cock it, will it slide still? "Ahah!!!", says I, "cocking the gun drives that little adjustable slide up against the MIN/MAX knob". (Answer is under #1, below) Wow, saved me the embarrassment of an angry call to FX over a brand-new gun that I thought came 'broken". I am excited again about the gun. Thank you for going further than my manual explaining the slide hammer adjustment.. Hey FX, saying "BECAUSE I SAID SO" is not a very effective way to keep me from breaking my new toy. Tell me what happens and why. Understanding is better than blind obedience. We can modify our perception of things when given ample information. Here goes my attempt at explaining some warnings: 1. "Don't adjust the power knob when the gun is cocked". The manual says nothing about what gets damaged nor why, just a "DON'T DO IT" warning. Lame. ANSWER: It is both the adjuster screw for the hammer spring tensioner AND the power knob that are in jeopardy. It presses against the knob position detents inside when the gun is cocked, and can get bent by turning the knob. The knob detents can also get scraped off. So, now you know what gets damaged if you turn that knob when the gun is cocked. You're welcome. ;) Oh, yeah. SO, DON'T DO IT!! ;) 2. "Don't turn the regulator "IN" with pressure in the gun, or permanent damage can occur." "It's ok to turn it out (left) Nothing from FX about why. Lame, again. Not you Steve. You Rocked this review. You can't be expected to pass on to us what they don't show you. ANSWER: Well...regulators have very fine threads that are keeping that adjustable seat/stopper block held inside against some really nasty pressure (3500 psig). Backing it out doesn't stress those threads, but trying to screw it "IN" is asking for them at best, to bind, or strip, and at worst, blow that threaded adjuster seat out into your face. Not fun on the best day. There may be more reasons. But, in fact, the manual that came with my MK 2 describes turning it in both directions while under pressure. Go figure. They may have changed the reg. design. Things Not Understood from the manual: 1. "NOTE: Only use the safety when the gun is cocked." As a firearms enthusiast this puzzles me. Yes, some firearms cannot physically be placed on 'SAFE' when not cocked. Nothing bad happens on those that can be. This should be explained so we are mindful of the issue. Well, the section on 'cocking and loading' places the SAFE ON-AFTER cocking, but oddly, has you put SAFE ON-BEFORE cocking when removing the magazine. Hmmmm...... puzzling. 2. DO NOT 'DRY-FIRE' WITH NEAR "0" AIR PRESSURE. Why? Hello? You know it's gonna happen at some point. Where is the elephant in this room? 3. NEVER ADJUST REG. ABOVE 170 bar. (damage). Damage to what, why, how,? I get it, over-pressure to the low pressure side, but what is the weak link? 4. NEVER FIRE GUN WHEN PRESSURE IS LOWER THAN SET PRESSURE. Well, now. If I can adjust the chamber pressure from 100 bar to 150+ bar, what gets damaged if I fire it when my pressure sags below a setting of 140 when my tank is dropping below? Why? Is it the Regulator? Again, understanding is far better than sheer obedience. 5. Finall gripe: they included a nice 'replacement' air 'quick-connect' adapter to replace onto our air source that makes it easier to remove than ordinary 'quick-connects' due to the deeply recessed male fill port. Nice, but my air pump has the quick-connect JB-welded on. Hmmm.... maybe I will source an extension to my current hose and fitting. Yup. That about does it. Sorry about the long post. I'm just hoping to aid another soul who has the same questions as I have. Any answers are also welcome. .
Hi friend. I want to know please if a fax barrel hits x. can be adjusted to a youngest marauder. Please can you help me. I want to make this modification in a marauder
Thank you so much for taking the time and energy in sharing this ! SINCERELY appreciate it!, I have an FX impact X MK2 to be delivered this week finally.
Watched this for something like the 4th or 5th time. Learn something new each time. Can't wait for the next installment. Went to the range and tested some of the tuning as you recommended. Am seeing improvements in the groupings, getting better shot groups, improvements in my confidence shooting. Best group today was 16 shots in 1.5 inch raged hole. Big improvement, and hope to do better. Thank you for the information, and please keep it coming.
@@donham512 Best to watch my Tuning Guides on the Crown Continuum and Dreamline Saber Tac... They're so much more evolved than this one and all the same rules apply. Steve
Hi Steve. Magnificent and thorough revision of the Impact X. I'm following you from Spain. A full boning of the Impact in your hands would be something superb to count on. I am surprised by the bitter complaints of some users about the quality of some parts of the Impact. Until now, I was only aware of the very good reviews that FX and its Impact receive from all over the world. I know firearms well, but I'm absolutely unaware of the world of compressed air, which I've recently become interested in, and especially in getting started with FX Impact X. I summarize what I read on TH-cam today, with the intention of knowing if you have been able to verify some of these terms: - "Rear valve stem leaks." - "the trigger doesn't go back to the first stage." - "Fixing screw is bent in place." - "Tank indicator reads 50 bar without tank connected." - "seems to have the same problems as those that arose in early 2016." - "the quality of the material used is inferior. The screws are soft and stripped. The probe assembly is dangerous for such a powerful rifle, even on the X." - "The cocking pin is bent. Destroy o'rings. Poor machining finishes. The Weaver Bipod Rail is grounded in a groove." - "design issues." - "the probe block requires a lot of force. The screw that holds the probe itself is of inferior quality to almost all of the rifle's screws." - "Brass ends... it's inferior quality and bending." - "I haven't touched any adjustments. I've returned it twice for leaks, now it's dripping very slowly again." Whether you do or not, thank you, bro. A greeting.
Mine's been good but I've read of some challenges too. I guess the think to remember is that FX sells a lot of Impacts world wide so there's bound to be some oopses from time to time. Steve
Hi Steve, thank you for responding. Yes, I suppose it must be difficult to maintain quality standards in absolute values. However, I am confident that FX will practise a 'zero tolerance' policy that translates into a product of excellent quality that will produce the best reviews across borders as it has been until now. This magnificent brand so far deserves it, and also its followers and future customers around the world. Thank you again for your attention and for your excellent work. Greetings.
Very helpful. I now have a better understanding of how the different adjustments affect the overall system. Do you have any information on when the smooth twist X barrels with higher twist rates will become available?
You do very good vids Steve. This is going to be my first PCP, and you did a really good job of explaining the functions of it. I do see another reason for the o-rings on the insert though. The insert is long and small in diameter, and that means when you tighten the end cap, you are compressing the long insert into the breech. A rule of thumb I learned back in the engineering school days was when you have something that is 8 times or more longer than the diameter, (and this is about 45 times longer than the diameter), it will tend to "bow" under compression, (why you don't want to over tighten the end cap). The o-rings support the middle section of the insert to help keep the insert from bowing. I am sure it would be better to leave the o-rings in there. The insert will want to bow the most in the middle, so one o-ring there, and 2 more making the insert 1/4 length between o-rings, and not over tightening the end cap will keep the insert as straight as it can be. I would think if you only have 2 o-rings for the shorter barrels, place them so they divide the length of the insert equally if possible. "I'm Smart! I'm Smart! I coulda been a contender!" :) Now that I know what gun I am going to buy this winter, do you have any vids of the better compressors out there? Thanks for all you do Steve. A guy from Michigan.
Hi, Steve I am very glad that you have taking the time to explain step by step on how the FX impact works and how to change barrels, escpecilly with the new barrel liners. For the old and new owners of the FX impacts which is a great relieve to know how to change the liners to avoid any damages. I am still learning on how everything works in armony between gauges adjustments. It's really a little challenge in comparison with the regular PCP's. It's just about adding some love to it, and everything will runs smoothly! Steve, Do you know when the new FX Impact liners are going to be available in the USA, Is there any specifc date? We all will appreciated your response. Thank you and keep us informed with the new line of air rifles. Have a great day! Al
AEAC Vlog hello friend how are you greetings from Colombia I follow your videos. one question I have a fx impact x .30 mm cannon 600 mm I would like to know what is the twis of the 600mm cannon .30 and 700mm .25 I appreciate your answer
Could you not try upping the hammer spring tension first to see if you can achieve desired speeds without upping the Rev pressure? If you can’t get the desired speed then up the reg pressure?
Great video Steve, just a little detail, the valve adjust screw (bumper) adjust the over opening fire valve, this part stop the fire valve pin as you say when is open, hammer rebound is not problem in FX, they use a light weight hammer and short spring in all FX airguns. I will see you in Utah cheers!!
Thank you thank you thank you Steve. Just bought my first Impact... The Mark II and had no idea where to begin on tuning or changing the barrel. There may be differences on the Mark II but this helps a lot
Dear Sir, there is information stating that the regulators on earlier made FX impacts cannot be upgraded to the newer impact x version due to size differences. Can someone explain in detail, and if so, how can it be determined what earlier impact models are upgradable? Can it be ascertained by their serial number?
you get a hint from the parts list the o-rings for the impact reg. housing ... rev date 2019-18-3 (the info i have) ... "until serial no 183534" ... "from serial no. 183524" therefore i am assuming that 183534 separates ver 1 from ver 2 .... hope that helps
If I may, as a physicist I have a bit of experience in harmonics. Setting the dampers at center, third and fifth locations along the barrel should help at most of the frequencies/vibrations produced by the hammer and valves.
It does and FX tells me it's to improve sound but so far no one has been able to provide any tangible results that accuracy is also improved (manufacturer included). Steve
Thank you for this concise & didactic information on the FX Impact X. I am a retired senior with fixed income but would like to invest in a PCP. I am afraid from all of the reviews from all 3 of the largest distributors of airguns. $2800 is a lot of money to get poor customer service, lose my money and receive damaged or incomplete product. I have read that FX USA is now the representative for The Sweden FX line of airguns. Who could I buy an Impact X, Wildcat MKII or Crown from and not get put through the ringers. Again I am a senior on a fixed income, money is tight but available, I have been saving for an Impact X the past year and am almost there. Studying for the past year on FX line of Airguns. Thank you for your time.
I would recommend Airguns of Arizona or Utah Airguns. Either will take good care of you. FX USA is just a warranty and distribution center. They don't sell to the public. Best, Steve
Thank you, Steve! I had to watch this as I just received the .30 - 700 mm for my first gen Impact. Got it from UA and it didn't come with a grub screw so I was at a loss for securing the barrel. You provided that information and then some! Thanks again. Cheers and see you in October, my friend.
Does the air supply tank refill the regulated air chamber after the shot is completed or, it it supplying a constant supply of air at the regulated pressure the entire time the valve is open?
Great video Steve. I cannot wait to get into my FX Crown .177 Green Laminate! Looking forward to learning more about the amazing technology FX has been coming up with.
Steve when are you going to do an m3 full review like the one you did with the maverick?? They are so informative and helpful ....i might even be willing to let you borrow mine....
Thnx. Steve for the information; I have the same gun the one just before they went to the MK II without then they now have with the 2nd plenum to the Power Plenum even though I have the same gun smooth twist X barrel 1 payment from done so I've owned it for almost 1 year. All of them are great upgrades of the original FX Impacts.
Awesome work Steve! I have a 30 cal Impact and I only slightly adjusted the front valve adjustment knob. I have no intention of messing with the regulator adjustment as the gun works perfectly as is. I have no current need to go to the X barrel as the standard smooth twist barrel meets all my needs.
How is the brass piece fitted to the sleeve ? And where does the barrel liner and up in the brass piece ? I'm thinking about adjusting the barrel to fit my pcp...
I just bought an FX Impact MKII in .25 cal & shoot only the JSB Exact King .25 in 25.39. When you set this Impact up what BC were you coming up with? The reason I ask is I have found web sites showing .017 all the way to.038 BC & trying to figure out what my BC will be & have mine tuned to almost exactly what you have this Impact set to.Thanks for info & great videos.
Longer barrel gives the compressed air more time to expand behind the pellet before it leaves the barrel. That way the energy in the air isn’t being waisted outside the barrel. Optimally you would calculate the volume of air (cc) the barrel holds and set the value to release that much air with each shot. That would remove the puff of expanding air that disrupts the pellet as it leaves the barrel.
Steve can not take any responsibility for a divorce because of his excellent reviews that sell many great airguns. It is against the universal airgun rule code to mention his name in any divorce court proceedings. When it comes to divorce, nobody has ever heard the name "Steve". Got it? Good. Sign here please. :) I think I am hooked, and will get the .30 cal this winter. I don't have to ask permission, but if you do buy it, and end up divorced, (I am sure not by now), that may be 2 grand she can't touch. :)
My question is regarding the smooth twist slug barrels. Will there be .177 slug barrels and does the twist rate change for slug barrels the bigger the caliber? I'd like to shoot .177 slugs based on the quieter report compared to a .22. Since where I live, we aren't allowed any kind of sound suppression for any rifle. Would a .177 slug be ample for pests as large as a crow or magpie at distances beyond 75 yards to 100 yards?
@@aeacvlog2033 thank you,,, i appreciate the info,,, now i wish i had waited another 12 months before getting my fx boss,, so the smooth twist barrels are sort of obsolete now ? Looks like the x barrels are doing it better
Hi Steve, great video. Can u suggest a gauge for the reg pressure adjustment. Is the edgun digital gauge accurate enough to use as a reg gauge while tuning.
AEAC Vlog , Oh anyway thanks Steve for your effort. I not saying the oem gauge is inaccurate. The problem with the oem gauge is there is no in-between markings. so it is difficult to guess the reg pressure between 100 & 150 bar.
Steve, You mentioned that for $399.99 the barrel kit comes with a magazine. Everywhere that I have looked states the barrel kit comes with just the barrel, shroud, and probe omitting the inclusion of a magazine. Can you confirm that the barrel kit comes with a magazine? If we have to purchase the magazine separately, that will surely impact the price to change calibers. Thanks
Appreciate the updated information. And thank you for all you do for the airgun community. Now the wait continues for an Impact X in .22 cal from AoA. :-)
No worries Steve. You're still the man. Hopefully I didn't step on anyone's toes. Just want to make sure others understand the current options available.
thank you soo much steve for this video ive been hoping and dreaming about the day youd make this video i am a new owner of the fx impact x in .25 cal with the 700mm barrel i will be looking forward to more videos you do such a great job i check your channel everyday an now you got 2 AWESOME !!! your the best
Hello Steve. I am trying to setup my Stelock Pro App and need to know the twist rate on my Fx Impact in .25 using the original Smooth Twist barrel....I'm getting so many rates from 1:16 all the way up to 1:50....you are in the know....can you help definitively?
Hi Steve, got my impact and yesterday I change the barrel (from 0.22 to 0.25, your video was great for that) and adjust the HST with allen. Pretty sure it was 1.5mm wrench, also CW or CCW is confusing since all depend if you in front or in the back, for me was easy to understand, turn it down will increase tension, turn it up, will decrease it, just my 2 cents. Again great video and thanks for sharing (FX Impact X 0.22 0.25 and 0.30 owner) BTW flawless change, awesome airgun.
Hello sir. I just only asking if STX (liner). 22 cal. Is designed only for slug? Not for pellet? Or u must change the barrel(liner) if using only for pellet
Steve, thanks for the awesome review!!! And I agree with the volousity speeds, as some I always thought faster was best, when I first started with pcp. But it didn't take long long to figure out that wasn't true. Thanks again for the review.
dman8479 Not necessary with the Impact. It was designed to be externally tunable with minimal effort. Just bleed as/when described in this video. Steve
The most educating video I found so far on the impact. I ordered mine and now familiarizing myself with the how-to. I'm new to this but I notice every time you put some downwards weight on that barrel throughout the video it seemed to move substantially closer to the tank... I'm curious if that can contribute to instability or accuracy over time. Or does the shroud/sleeve move independently from the actual barrel?
Hello and welcome. Be sure to check out my more recent & evolved tuning guides on the Crown Continuum and Avenger. Both are very applicable to tuning the Impact. Compressing the barrel a few mm doesn't permanently bend it. POI will remain unchanged. Best, Steve
Thanks Steve. By the way are you by any chance familiar with Lethal Air? If so I wonder why they would cancel my Fx Impact x mk2 order a week after putting an order through and charging my account. They just sent me the Email yesterday that they cancelled my order and I'm a bit bummed. Having a really hard time reaching them. A couple weeks ago I had ordered an Air Arms Texan LSS carbon fiber tank and the account was charged in full but still haven't received a shipping confirmation and even since then they haven't replied to an email or a phone call. I did some shopping and was aware that most other websites like Utah Air guns, Pyramid Air, Air Gun Depot, etc.. did not have either the Texan or the Impact in stock. But I made sure that when I made my order, there was no fine print notice of a backorder on those guns at Lethal Air because if I look up the Texan now...it requires to preorder. Just wondering if this type of drama is typical with other sellers. And what would you recommend.
Nice bro..... which one you recommend for the air gun FX...i mean FX impact M3,or FX maverick or FX X... which one the best.... because maybe I will buy 1 that air gun...tq bro 👍👍🥰🥰
Are you sure by "harmonics" at 33min they meant sound and not vibration? I'm still learning but the first time I heard someone talk about tuning for harmonics I thought about how the barrel would vibrate/wiggle/flex etc.
My 30 cal shot at max hammer spring, the hammer spring adjustment to where the spring had just a little free play & 140 on the reg & I got 780 fps. With more free play at the hammer spring allen screw ( .060 free play ) & 120 psi reg pressure I now get 850 fps GO FIGURE but that's the facts !
Hi Steve I enjoy your website I wish someone would do a blog on the impact mark 2 with power planum. Harmonic tuning With pellets and slugs. Are still trying to get the tone of when you have your hammer Spring correctly tuned
Thank you Steve. Let's say I have setup everything perfectly (power wheel, reg pressure and valve) for .25 cal. And then I wanted to go for lets say .22 cal. Can I just use the power wheel to get the proper velocity without adjusting other adjustments again?
Nasser Aldawsari Possibly but something tells me the efficiency and consistency wont be there. I'll learn this in time and relay but right now, I'm interpreting this as a very fine balancing act.. Best, Steve
Thank you for all the great information ! Question : how do you figure the number of turns if you have to bleed the regulator every time you need to bring the number down to allow less air by turning clockwise ?
I don't have the gun yet, but I can assume by a bit of trial and error. Bleed the air, turn a couple of turns clockwise, replace the bottle and see where the gauge is, (might be helpful to put the information in a journal). If it is then too low, all you have to do is crank it up, (CCW), to the pressure you need. If it is not low enough, just do the bleed process again to lower it more. I bet you can also turn it CCW to raise the pressure, like 1/4 turn and see how much it raises the pressure and get a ratio, (1/4 turn = 7psi, for example). Then you may be able to figure out how many turns it takes to change the pressure to what you need. I don't know if it is a linear thing though.
Three years later, this video is still extremely prevalent and underrated. Thanks for giving me a better understanding of my Impact.
Hi Jake.
Thank u. My newer guide on tuning the Crown Continuum is much evolved from this and the same rules apply 👍
Fantastic Steve! Your tutorial is crystal clear. Concise, informative, entertaining, and keeps the viewer locked to the screen.
I want to add, THANKS TO UTAH AIRGUNS for helping me with this. Without them I would never of figured this out. Naples Fla.
The Owners/inventors of FX are also lefties and shoot the Impact in this way;

th-cam.com/video/fsAmnAgTSHw/w-d-xo.html
Love the Urban - great buy!
Steve
Some times , just some times you find a little gem on TH-cam. This vlog is one of them . Brilliant job 👍
👍
Nice job explaining the ins and outs of this great platform. The FX Airguns are IMHO, what appears to be the Holy Grail of Air Rifles.
Thank you for demonstrating the barrel kits that is the first video of its kind that I have seen so far.
Bravo! very informative. I am not a hunter but I love airguns. During my young age in the Philippines my late father made airguns for the hunters in my village. I just bought one because I love the concept of the gun. With your videos its encourage me to shoot again with airgun and maybe one day I will go hunting with my beautiful FX Impact
Nice job as usual Steve, I know this took a long time to put together, and we appreciate your efforts!!
You're like the Bob Ross of airguns… Seriously dude... So much that it will be here Thursday... Thank you bro...
Awesome! Thanks Santiago. Steve
fx just made there sell double in the USA. good move dare i say take over.
Now I know how simple it is to change calibers out
Good deal, thanks! Steve
thank you for this detailed description of the x barrel system.
After watching your video, Here is what I will address:
1. What gets damaged and why.
2. The need for FX to spell that out in HUGE BOLD LETTERS in the abbreviated manual included with the airgun. (Why no blow-up diagram, is beyond me.)
Here goes my attempt at explaining some warnings:
SO, DON'T DO IT!! ;)
Go figure. They may have changed the reg. design.
Things Not Understood from the manual:
Any answers are also welcome.
.
Wow, that’s everything you need to know about the Impact. Now please unpack your new Refridgerator. X
Hi friend. I want to know please if a fax barrel hits x. can be adjusted to a youngest marauder. Please can you help me. I want to make this modification in a marauder
AirgunGearShow
I was fixated on it for a minute or two, thinking was a big a$$ TV until I zoomed in on it
I thought it was his Enormous $50K TV System!
16 shots for a 1.5" group!!! That is pretty darn good for 200 yards. :)
steve i would suggest that at 21:39 that you add turn out the vs to line 4 ...
oops should have watch it thru you discuss the vs later at 25:24 ... sorry
@@donham512 Best to watch my Tuning Guides on the Crown Continuum and Dreamline Saber Tac... They're so much more evolved than this one and all the same rules apply. Steve
Steve i said he is the best , the best you tube channel ever....honestly, .... the best attitude of Steve... thank you Sir, i mean Steve....
An incredible amount of information and superb presentation. Great Job Steve.
I summarize what I read on TH-cam today, with the intention of knowing if you have been able to verify some of these terms:
- "Rear valve stem leaks."
- "the trigger doesn't go back to the first stage."
- "Fixing screw is bent in place."
- "Tank indicator reads 50 bar without tank connected."
- "seems to have the same problems as those that arose in early 2016."
- "the quality of the material used is inferior. The screws are soft and stripped. The probe assembly is dangerous for such a powerful rifle, even on the X."
- "The cocking pin is bent. Destroy o'rings. Poor machining finishes. The Weaver Bipod Rail is grounded in a groove."
- "design issues."
- "the probe block requires a lot of force. The screw that holds the probe itself is of inferior quality to almost all of the rifle's screws."
- "Brass ends... it's inferior quality and bending."
- "I haven't touched any adjustments. I've returned it twice for leaks, now it's dripping very slowly again."
Whether you do or not, thank you, bro.
Barls Charkley Right about now. Dealers in the U.S. should be receiving any day now. Steve
"I'm Smart! I'm Smart! I coulda been a contender!" :)
Now that I know what gun I am going to buy this winter, do you have any vids of the better compressors out there?
Thanks for all you do Steve. A guy from Michigan.
Hi, Steve
I am very glad that you have taking the time to explain step by step on how the FX impact works and how to change barrels, escpecilly with the new barrel liners.
Steve,
Do you know when the new FX Impact liners are going to be available in the USA, Is there any specifc date?
We all will appreciated your response.
Thank you and keep us informed with the new line of air rifles.
Have a great day!
Al
Alberto Papi I'm told that they're just days away now 👍
Thank you Steve.
AEAC Vlog hello friend how are you greetings from Colombia I follow your videos. one question I have a fx impact x .30 mm cannon 600 mm I would like to know what is the twis of the 600mm cannon .30 and 700mm .25 I appreciate your answer
Best video I have ever seen on explaining all the gizmos. THANKS
Good Information, but still it is one of my bucket list airgun. You're one of the best out there.
Thank you. I don’t have a impact yet! I have a Wildcat compact. But this knowledge is priceless thanks for all you do.
Mine is on its way for Tuesday. I’m watching this video most likely 5 more times
Steve, thank you very much for your hard work to share your knowledge.
FX Impact X is in my near future. Again, thank you.
See you soon Danny! Steve
Hello you had too much test air rifle. Which one you think is better?
Does the air supply tank refill the regulated air chamber after the shot is completed or, it it supplying a constant supply of air at the regulated pressure the entire time the valve is open?
No, it's closed during the shot cyclen and backfills right afterwards.
Good job Steve. Thanks for your time and efforts!!! 👍🏽👍🏽
All of them are great upgrades of the original FX Impacts.
i am still not at the end of the video , but it seems to be the one i was looking for for longgggg
thank you !!!!!
Does the new barrels that are made for slugs fit this gun ?
Yup, one tunes for accuracy as well as power. Steve
When my wife asked me "why do you need an Impact MKII .25cal" I hope you don't mind but I blamed you ! 😂 Thanks for the Great videos !
I think I am hooked, and will get the .30 cal this winter. I don't have to ask permission, but if you do buy it, and end up divorced, (I am sure not by now), that may be 2 grand she can't touch. :)
how much do these types of guns run .? this one is really sweet
Around the $2000 mark
My question is regarding the smooth twist slug barrels. Will there be .177 slug barrels and does the twist rate change for slug barrels the bigger the caliber? I'd like to shoot .177 slugs based on the quieter report compared to a .22. Since where I live, we aren't allowed any kind of sound suppression for any rifle. Would a .177 slug be ample for pests as large as a crow or magpie at distances beyond 75 yards to 100 yards?
BTW...generally speaking, what is first indication of a failing (or failed) regulator?
The pressure reading begins to increase or "creep" while resting.
i just picked mine up - i appreciate you taking the time to make this vid. Very helpful.
So steeve is there a difference between an x barrel and a barrel for shooting slugs ?
There are different x barrels available. Some are designed for shooting pellets. Others are designed to shoot slugs. Steve
@@aeacvlog2033 thank you,,, i appreciate the info,,, now i wish i had waited another 12 months before getting my fx boss,, so the smooth twist barrels are sort of obsolete now ? Looks like the x barrels are doing it better
Thanks Steve. Fantastic video!
i bought fx impact .22 700mm sniper.
it is hell of the gun!!, love it
Hi Steve, great video. Can u suggest a gauge for the reg pressure adjustment. Is the edgun digital gauge accurate enough to use as a reg gauge while tuning.
vimal kumar I couldn't, sorry. When I asked FX what they use, they told me they simply use an OEM gauge they know to be dead on. Best, Steve
AEAC Vlog , Oh anyway thanks Steve for your effort. I not saying the oem gauge is inaccurate. The problem with the oem gauge is there is no in-between markings. so it is difficult to guess the reg pressure between 100 & 150 bar.
yeah, just have to guesstimate it
Get a wika gauge for 37 dollars. It's a gauge with lines on that go up in 10 bar increments
yea, doing the same.
Steve,
You mentioned that for $399.99 the barrel kit comes with a magazine. Everywhere that I have looked states the barrel kit comes with just the barrel, shroud, and probe omitting the inclusion of a magazine.
Can you confirm that the barrel kit comes with a magazine? If we have to purchase the magazine separately, that will surely impact the price to change calibers.
Thanks
At this point the barrel kit does not come with a magazine. That may be changing in the future, but for now that must be purchased separately.
Appreciate the updated information. And thank you for all you do for the airgun community.
Now the wait continues for an Impact X in .22 cal from AoA. :-)
Hi Harry. That's my bad if I got that wrong. Sorry buddy. I must have misunderstood. Steve
Fantastic tutorial!
Automatically subbed. Always great content you make!
I haven't really look hard to find out, but just from the looks of the Mag placement is this gun Left hand compatible?
The liners that ship with the guns are designed for pellets... slug liners can be purchased separately.
@@aeacvlog2033 thank you sir.
Steve, thanks for the awesome review!!! And I agree with the volousity speeds, as some I always thought faster was best, when I first started with pcp. But it didn't take long long to figure out that wasn't true. Thanks again for the review.
Can we use a fx impact liner in the fx crown.. same caliber ofcourse... Thanks Steve
Any tips on how to tune the 30cal for efficiency
Would it be safe to safe to ALLWAYS bleed your gun b4 doing any tuning??
dman8479 Not necessary with the Impact.
I have no experience with Lethal Air, sorry. Steve
Nice bro..... which one you recommend for the air gun FX...i mean FX impact M3,or FX maverick or FX X... which one the best.... because maybe I will buy 1 that air gun...tq bro 👍👍🥰🥰
Thanks! Of those, the m3 is the best platform. The Maverick is excellent too thought. Steve
@@AEAC tq bro...
Are you sure by "harmonics" at 33min they meant sound and not vibration? I'm still learning but the first time I heard someone talk about tuning for harmonics I thought about how the barrel would vibrate/wiggle/flex etc.
does it have to be air? helium and nitrogen are more stable and less reactive to temp. can it be adjusted for these gasses?
Really enjoyed this channel!
hi Steve now with the new power plenum do I still have to get a slug liner or can I just use the .22 pellet liner?
My 30 cal shot at max hammer spring, the hammer spring adjustment to where the spring had just a little free play & 140 on the reg & I got 780 fps. With more free play at the hammer spring allen screw ( .060 free play ) & 120 psi reg pressure I now get 850 fps GO FIGURE but that's the facts !
Hi Steve I enjoy your website I wish someone would do a blog on the impact mark 2 with power planum. Harmonic tuning With pellets and slugs. Are still trying to get the tone of when you have your hammer Spring correctly tuned
Hi Frank. Check out my Crown Continuum tuning guide here. It's much evolved from this one. Steve
Awesome video for vlog Steve !!!!!
Need to watch Ernest Rowe go through this, he does it in a way where you don’t have to unscrew regulator every time.
Hey Steve did you say that the barrel kit comes with a magazine clip cause I was looking for the kits but they didn’t mention a magazine
Jersey boy in Texas I did and I misunderstood. Right now, they don't but FX tells me they're looking into this for the future. Steve
Awesome video thanks, can you shoot pellets(.22)in a slug barrel?will it compromise accuracy?
