I disagree. I actually think he would be best as the wing next to Celebrini/Smith on the 2nd line. That way in the event the youngster gets tossed from the circle there's a veteran center to take the draw. And Logan can give on the ice/coasting into the faceoff dot tips on how to try to win the draw, which isn't so easy from the bench. Plus, Logan assuming he's healthy is a top 6 forward still and should be able to generate 25, maybe even 30 goals which won't be as achievable on the 3rd line.

@@drew10981 not sure if you ever played sports because that’s not how any of that works.
      The lines should be:
      Eklund Granlund Zetterlund
      Kostin Celebrini Toffoli
      Dellandrea Couture Smith
      Kunin Wennberg Goodrow
Bordeleau, Grundstrom, Sturm & Guschin as extra forwards.
Having Cooch on the 3rd line is the obvious choice, limits his minutes because he’s an injury prone 35 year old and him on the line with Smith is perfect since Smith needs to work on defense.

San Jose fan. Last two years have been pretty tough... not much enthusiasm. It wasn't even just that the team was bad, but most of the familiar faces we knew and loved had moved on or retired. That makes a difference. I mean, I'd go to a game just to see Joe Thornton's beard, even if I know they'll lose...
But now that the team has some fresh blood and still has some guys from the Old Guard sticking around like Couture and even Vlasic, I'd absolutely love to go out for some games this season to see what can be done by this group.
I dont expect them to be winning a ton of games yet, but I could see in 2-3 years that this team will be absolutely on the up and competing in the playoffs with some young, exciting talent, and perhaps even some free agents that could come over and want to chase a cup!

People that have followed the Sharks for decades, as I have, KNOW that there are few places better in the NHL than the Shark Tank in the playoffs. Thanks for sharing. I recently discovered your TH-cam channel and your encyclopedic knowledge of the game is matched only by your wardrobe!!!
As someone who lives in the Bay Area, i am probably a typical fan. I rode the 10 - 15 year “high” of making the playoffs every season but frustrated as hell that we never won the Stanley Cup. Admittedly I lost interest in the Sharks in the last years of the Doug Wilson regime when they kept pushing out the inevitable rebuild and re-signed players they should have walked away from 2 - 3 seasons ago.
There is finally palpable excitement about the Sharks again. If all goes well, I think they could make the playoffs in two years, but more than likely three. We add one more top five pick next year.
Of late, it wasn’t just that the Sharks were not a playoff team, but there were no signs of hope for the future. With a stacked system and a roster with players that should become stars in the NHL, you will see the Tank start to rock once again.
I’ve not been to a game in two years. I plan on going to 5 - 7 games in person and start watching them on tv on a regular basis.
There’s finally hope and I’m here for it.

I'm a longtime Sharks fan since the inception back in the 90s. I live in Northern California, but not in San Jose. For me to go to a game, we usually spend the night in San Jose which means a 2.5 hour drive, a hotel, and usually dinner and breakfast, and the game has to be a Friday or Saturday unless I want to miss work the next day (I don't). That's a lot of money to see a team that is horrible. I can watch at home and pause the television at intermission to: grab a beer, walk the dogs, pack for work in the morning, load some laundry etc...
Frankly, I would rather travel to see them in LA, Seattle or Vancouver right now because at least after the Sharks get curb-stomped, I can go right back to being a tourist. We saw them in Vancouver last year; the people are friendly, the city is beautiful, and the restaurants are excellent.
I hope to never see them in Las Vegas. I didn't think I could hate a team more than the Ducks until Vegas came along.
With that said, I'll probably go see the Sharks in San Jose this year. We're due. I like the direction of the team. I don't mind the Vlasic contract because he put in the years since he was a kid. The Karlsson trade and resigning was galling. They went hard after Tavares right around that time too. I get it though; they were in "win now" mode, and we are finally at rock bottom after a long run. I've always preferred my teams build through the draft and within the organization.
I'm super stoked about Celebrini, but I'm just as stoked about Dickinson to be honest. The top D-men I liked best to build around were Silayev, Buium, and Dickinson with Dickinson being my personal preferred choice followed closely by Silayev. I couldn't believe he fell to us. The whole neighborhood heard me sound my barbaric yawp over the rooftops of the world, to paraphrase Walt Whitman. A good team MUST have a great blue line in my opinion, and that requires a defense prioritizing first pair player to eat up minutes and control his own end (Chara, Lidstrom, Pronger, Langway, Murphy, Stevens, Chelios). If they have an offensive side too, that's great. Will Dickinson be one of those guys? Most likely not, but when one drafts so high, one must reach for the stars and hope for the best.
I actually hope the Sharks are pretty gawdawful again this year. Then in next year's draft, they draft their more offensive but still defensive D-man (Niedermayer, Housley, Leetch) again reaching for the stars, and he will have to be a right side defenseman.
I also hope the FVGKs drop off since SJS hold their pick. Karma needs to strike.
SJS must build a strong blue line regardless.
    22 wins is my over/under.

    Hey HG,
I have been a Sharks fan since their first appearance in the play offs against Detroit and the impossible win in game 7 to bounce Detroit that year. I won't hazard a guess as to the point total but, my thinking is that this team is probably a bottom 4 team in the league again. I doubt they will be last again but, luck and injuries have a large say in that.
Also, much of the teams success now depends entirely on the steepness of the learning curve for our younger players. Every team that features some younger talent trys to establish themselves has to contend with this and every year at least one of those players take a significant stride which is really fun to see the light go on as these young men find traction in the NHL for the first time.
For a team like us more than the usual amount of our fate is dependent on those young guys developing. If we get lucky and 2 or more of those young guys NHL learning curve is fairly steep we could even break the bottom 5-6 teams but, I think that is big ask since this team largely hasn't played together before so chemistry is zero with the exception of The Lund line if Coach Wars decides to keep them together?
I would love Mike Grier to sign one more veteran defensemen perhaps bring back Brenden Dylan. We could use his experience, size, strength and grit at the back end and it would not cost a lot to sign him assuming he is still available at the time of this comment?
I have an unrelated question for you HG. Do you think we will see a woman play in the NHL at some point? I know about the young lady who was given a try out back in the day as a goalie from Quebec I believe (wasn't her name something like Manon?)? Thanks for your analysis HG I always enjoy your perspective man. All the best.

They're going to have a bit of a harder time assembling draft capital now. They've go no retained salary slots available this year, but probably could still get something decent for Granlund at the deadline if he can repeat last season. Certainly they aren't going to have any issues with cap space any time soon, especially with Vlasic coming off the books in 2 years.

Obviously not a playoff contender. I believe the sharks are still in the tank aspect of the build for one more season. They are 4th most for dead cap. They have 11 or so expiring contracts. No true core of players right now. We love granlund, sturm, blackwood. There isn't really a true star line for the Sharks. With barbie taking a step back this season and couture in perpetual LTIR; hertl, meier and karlsson being dished for great returns.
Would love to see a star rise to take the marquee player besides Blackwood.
I think the GMMG has done a great job in the front office. Excited for all the players coming through the pipe line. I expect to see some mercenaries come in perhaps on the blue line for grit. Also a true shooter and/or net front guy for the power play. Someone JVR for a short term deal.

Just to clarify one thing about this franchise:
One key reason why we're not coming out to watch the team yet is because the tickets are still priced like the team is an annual playoff contender. With how much there is to do in the Bay Area, and how expensive literally everything is everywhere now, a lot of us don't want to shell out that kind of cash to go to more than, say, 4 or 5 games a year if we're not 100% committed to the roster pre-tear down completion, as it has been the last couple of seasons
