While there are many myths about Amaterasu, none of them say she was born from Izanami's left eye when she washed her face. Amaterasu and her brothers were born when Izanagi washed his face in a river to cleasn himself after journeying to the underworld to bring Izanami back. So Amaterasu was born from Izanagi's left eye, not Izanami's left eye, because Izanami by this point had died and eaten the food of the underworld and was now the goddess of the death.

@@drunkenclowder2322 The nuance is a little different. The idea is not that all Japanese are descendants of Amaterasu, but that the emperor is a direct descendant of Amaterasu.
The emperors claiming to be the descendants of Amaterasu is very interesting. The Japanese worshipped the emperors until 1945 when the Americans stripped the emperor’s roles both politically and militarily, but kept the emperor as a figurehead of Japan. Despite losing the worship on the emperor, they still worship Amaterasu in different ways.
No the “u” sound is often silent in the Japanese language much like the silent e in English. Eg If you’ve ever watched or read Naruto, Sasuke is pronounced ‘Sas’ ‘Ke’ and not ‘Sa’ ‘Su’ ‘Ke’ or the phrase Daisuki meaning I love you. Pronounced ‘Dai’ ‘Ski’ not ‘Dai’ ‘su’ ‘ki’
Actually... you're both right!! Japanese does has a tendency to mute the "u" part of "su" in some situations, but it's certainly not completely silent - just whispered! I wrote a whole linguistic analysis of this weirdness a couple years back. The same goes for the "i" part of "shi." Any syllable containing a short "i" or "u" vowel before a voiceless consonant is likely muted/"whispered" in some words. But if you try to pronounce "suki" without whispering the "u" part just a wee bit, it won't sound quite natural. It's a complex feature of Japanese phonology and.... oh, wait, I just realized that nobody cares. It's just my teacher instincts coming out, lol 😅
People saying Naruto stuff here but do people forgot that Persona 4 has more connections to Japanese mythology more (Most of the Personas of the main cast were references to Japanese mythology)...heck when I heard this video I even thought of BlazBlue since the Master Unit is called Amaterasu.
Dear See U in History team, I have been following you videos for japanese mythology and what i have found that you keep changing your statements in every other video regarding the same being/god. 1st you said that "the three noble gods" were born from izanagi in your other video; title: Japanese mythology, here you are saying that they were born from izanami secondly you said that tsusanoo get angered from Amatarasu's idea to winning and started to destroyed her palace but here is this video you said that Susanoo was planning tricks which led to the death of one of Amatarasu's webber.. and there are many more things which will take hours to write.
There’s a further story of how Amaterasu became Okamai Amaterasu which is the most divine deity (highest). Okami is the most appealed to in Japanese culture. For instance, entering a Japanese shrine requires people to not walk in the center (lane) as that is reserved for Okami.
The game Okami (大神 pronounced with long O) was named with double meanings. Amaterasu's formal name is Amaterasu-Okami (天照大神) or Amaterasu-Omikami (天照大御神). Okami (大神/おおかみ) means a great god. And an okami (狼/おおかみ again, with long O) also means a wolf in Japanese. I think the wolf in the game is named after the goddess.
I wonder is Susanoo is add later in japanese myhtology, since it's weird. Amaterasu, Goddess of sun and Tsukuyomi the God of Moon. Suddenly there God of Strom between them.
Susanoo was born last of the 3 making him the youngest. The two older siblings were born from the tears of izanagi and susanoo was born from the drippings of his nose, at least in the version i heard.
In ancient Japan, Amaterasu【天照大御神】 was not a goddess. Amaterasu was a male god called Amatel【天照神】. The history has been replaced by Emperor Jitou【持統天皇】. The Japanese myth that is now being transmitted to Japan is false.

She has been worshiped as a great god since the Jomon period, which was older than Amaterasu Omikami. She was a very important goddess, but she was inconvenient for the powers and she was forced to be absent. She was replaced and sealed with the name of another goddess. Her name is Seoritsuhime. 【瀬織津姫命】 It is also important to doubt that what is being told is true. What you believe is up to you. Take good care of what you believe.
Question. I noticed when you use pronouns to refer to Amateratsu(sorry if I'm misspelling). But you keep saying Susanoo's older brother, but keep calling the Sun Goddess a man. Is she a man, woman, both, or neither?

Exactly what I thought. Also susano didn't visit his brother but his sister, Amaterasu being openly female.
Enchanted by her reflection; sounds like Narcissus but less extreme and with a happier ending.

I'm not going to lie I learned about Amateratsu through the video game Okami that's what got me into Japanese mythology.
