    I like where they are going... i was one of those guys that asked for a bigger one, but i would love to see a 8/8. I have just two Outs left here after connecting my monitors. Then a Stereo Pair to my outboard-chain and then i'd love to make use of a mono DC coupled out to my modular and maybe another synth. I know headphones can be switched to line outs but yeah... But i'm still happy to see SSL continue this series of interfaces. 🥰

    I keep feeling like SSL is RIGHT around the corner from releasing like a be-all-end-all home/project studio piece, but they just aren’t quite there yet. Some sort of hybrid between this, the UC1, and the Six or Big Six… 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Maybe 😊

      @@yobhsiFehT It's not even a rumor. I heard one TH-camr talk about a DAW, but another thought that SSL is positioned to make a modular interface/console since they have the controllers, the 360 software, summing mixers, and interfaces. I was hoping for a little more out of this interface, but their target appears to Audient rather than integrating with their existing products.

    I love the 2+
    What it really needed most was an ADAT input for expandability. Glade they added it to the new one. I think this is a gamechanger and will lead to many more pros using this interface.

    • @RideTheLightning93
      @RideTheLightning93 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The major downside is that they added four ports to the front when the 2+ had a perfect rear-only layout :/ It's a desktop interface and I don't need cables in the front, so the 2+ it is. What a bummer.
      Also, do the two Hi-Z inputs in the front disable the first two microphone preamps on the back? I know Audient's EVO 8 does this, for instance.

    • @TheDilligan
      @TheDilligan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RideTheLightning93 I imagine the front ports are just a convenience option if you are sitting at the desk and want to plug a guitar directly in. I bet you can just as easily only use the back ports.
      What I would like is if they just added an ADAT port to the 2+.

    I have an issue on my Motu Ultralite Mk4, where the audio intermittently glitches out and sounds metallic once every 10 minutes or so (particularly when tracking analog inputs from it to my Macbook Pro) .. Seems a very common issue with that interface, so looking to replace it with something like the SSL12 or an RME interface and use the MOTU as a standalone mixer w/ ADAT output. Fingers crossed that the glitchy MOTU audio doesn’t also show up in standalone mode- it’s been a PITA ever since I got it from Sweetwater a few years ago.

    • @ChinoMagliba
      @ChinoMagliba ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@SMEL night and day between UAD and SSL. In terms of how I use it. In sounds, it’s really hard to describe because most of interfaces will sound similar but not as clean as a high end preamp like on a UAD. I’ve had latency problems with my SSL, for Idk why, I was using the same computer. But now as I’ve upgraded my system, it doesn’t really matter since UAD has almost zero latency monitoring since it has it’s own processing. That itself is the “experience” that is incomparable. I am speaking as a guitarist who practices a lot in the box. And also a producer/engineer who does this on the side.

      Hey Simon, thanks for the question! This would be an awesome feature, since the 12 has so much mixing capability under the hood! In fact, I brought this very question up to our SSL rep when he was here! Unfortunately, this is not a current feature on the SSL 12. Our rep thought it was a great idea, but as far as we know, there are no concrete plans for this to be a feature. I will bring it up again next time they are here, but be sure to drop a line to SSL yourself! If they know customers want this, that will make it worth it for them to add it!

    very nice, concise explainer Mitch,. I have an SSL 2+ (bought from Sweetwater of course). I bought it after all my existing interfaces showed either quirks or complete failures on my first M1 Mac (a MacBook Air A1). Then I got a MBP 14" M1pro. I tried the MOTU product and it was worse than the old USB A/Intel CPU generation AIs. After talking with Richie, my SE, and my own research, I decided the SSL 2+ would get the job done with lots of desirable, modern, compatible features. Boy were the two Rich's right that this was the right system for me. I love it and it works on all my M1/M? Macs perfectly.
    The problem is I need 4 inputs for my current work. The older interfaces I have that support that would require me to configure and use older Intel Macs. Once you go M1 you don't look back. My first question was does SSL have an upgraded product to the SSL 2+. YES. Is it reasonably affordable: YES and no. In Jan the cash should flow. Also need new guitar (excellent value such as Fender Mexican Tele or Strat or maybe even classic vibe and small tube amp head (low wattage). But all that other quipment doesn't come into scope until the audio interface and audio signals are all properly cared for. Figuring $1-2k to get things to where I want them for 2024. Thanks for turning us on to this SSL 12. I will be buying one.

      Hi Stephen, great question. You could in theory use two pairs of speakers simultaneously connected to outputs 1-4 of this interface. You would just configure that in your DAW and the included SSL 360 software. However it is worth noting that unless you are specifically mixing a project in quadrophonic sound, this is not advisable for any critical mixing or production application as it can lead to phase cancellation issues and other inaccuracies.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Na Banana, great question! Those outputs would work better with an Amp than the balanced signal, but I fear there would still be a bit of an impedance mismatch. This wouldn’t break anything of course, but could result in unexpected our suboptimal performance from the amp. I would still strongly consider a proper re-amp box like this guy:
      www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ProRMP--radial-prormp-1-channel-passive-re-amping-device
      This would ensure that you get a proper high-Z signal into the amp's input.

    • @andyjackson88

      6 total - if you configure HP A or HP B to be in 'line output mode' (instead of Headphone mode), then you can choose them to be balanced or unbalanced mono signals.

    I'm interested about running external preamps into interfaces like these. I'm guessing when you plug into one of the inputs there is no way of bypassing the in-built pres?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Grant, great question! With the SSL12, when you plug a device into the ¼” TRS jack and engage the ‘Line’ toggle, you do bypass the preamp section. This would work great with external preamps for you!

    Amateur question here, how is this unit compared to uad solo? What’s the big difference between the two?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tele Caster, great question! Besides the obvious difference in the number of inputs, there are a couple other differences. The biggest is that the UAD Solo has DSP accelerated plugin support. This allows the Solo to use UADs fantastic plugins, some of the best sounding ones you can get. The Solo also has the benefit of UAD’s Unison Preamp system which allows the preamps to accurately emulate famous and awesome sounding pres like the Neve 1073 or the Manley Vox Box.
      If you want to dig in further, give me a shout!

    Hi sweetwater! So... Two Qs:
    1- No pad in any input?
    2- Could I bypass the preamps to plug an external one?
    Thx!

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Eugenio! Thanks for your interest. After double-checking SSL’s specifications, it doesn’t look like there is a pad on any of the inputs. However, setting any of the inputs to “Line” will bypass the built-in preamp so you can use an external one if you prefer. Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me directly with any further questions!

    Can you use the preamps in standalone mode to another interface?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello - great question. There is not a standalone mode for this - it would have to be used as the audio interface. On Mac you might be able to configure an aggregate device with your other interface, but in general the easiest solution would be to find an analog preamp. You can browse our selection here:

    Show us the back!
    I have the SSL2+ and this indeed does address what's been missing from that unit. The major issue is being limited to two inputs. The pres are wonderful, the dual headphone outs are easy for setup. What's interesting is the loss of the Input/USB knob which is helpful for balancing the record/playback signals. Not sure from this video how they address that loss.

    • @M.e.molina
      @M.e.molina ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You use the SSL 360 software to create that as a mix virtually. But I must say, I do like the knob as it is handy and quick as opposed to going into the software and configuring it.

    The fact that companies still refuse to have adat-out while going through the effort of putting adat-in is getting truly painful. Immediate disqualifier for me, especially in a mid-size 4 channel interface. Having the input is great, but owning a Cranborne 500ADAT, I just want to be able to mix analog via adat, and it's amazing how few interfaces have adat-out. To me this would have been perfect with that one addition, especially now that it's a digitally controlled interface with the app.
