- Set in the glamour of 1950's post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock's life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love. Manville, Krieps and costume designer Mark Bridges stopped by to discuss the film, "Phantom Thread."

Lesley’s performance is so stoic and reserved, but also so full of hidden anguish. The best performance in the film, I think.
And who could blame her for that anguish? The character essentially has the burden of caring for her possibly mentally disturbed little brother, and she is forced to watch helplessly as her little brother and this woman she barely know fall into each other’s lives and watch their carefully constructed lives to fall apart.
This interviewer has really gained my respect. Notice how he doesn't introduce the show by introducing himself and blabbing for five minutes but instantly jumps into introducing the guests. Plus his knowledge and enthusiasm for the artists is really remarkable. Plus Phantom Thread was my favourite movie from last year haha.
Leslie Manville should win the oscar for best actress, she was brilliant.

There’s more darkness to this movie beside fashion. It’s about a cursed man with a gift he never asked for. His sister in a way is his conservator. He’s a genius that wants love, even if that love comes in the form of a poisoner. He knows she’s poisoning him but at the same time it gives him comfort.

I liked it overall, with some reservations over the ending. I don't know why it cost a reported 35 million USD to make though, unless DDL had a wage of 25 million.

I see that I will be alone in this opinion, but only 6 minutes in I hate the interviewer, who uses an "I know better than you about your craft" approach toward Lesley Manville. Frustrated actor?
I think he was scared at first that answers would be hard to draw out. Get's much better later.

What on earth is the interviewer talking about with PTA creating a "new kind of film language" !?!? PTA is great but my word, he needs to stop watching american hollywood films and see some stuff made elsewhere any time in the last 100 years.
With all due respect to Lesley Manville, Vicky Krieps & Mark Bridges, I think I speak for everyone when I say I would've preferred a PTA solo interview or a DDL/PTA combo interview!
