- Phantom Thread discussion with writer/director/producer Paul Thomas Anderson, editor Dylan Tichenor, costume designer Mark Bridges, and actor Vicky Krieps on December 10, 2017 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
This film was robbed at the Oscars. It was beautiful in every sense of the word. I think its about time they give Paul Thomas Anderson the award he deserves
I agree that PTA is about as good a director as you'll find today, but I think it's incredibly disrespectful when people talk about he, or other guys like Leo, getting 'robbed' at the oscars. It just shows no appreciation for the fellow nominees and winner.
@@dylandavies2635 lol its rigged
The Oscars mean nothing. The work of PTA will be studied and examined in film classes and by film appreciators for decades to come. Some of the people who have statues will only have that statue, not longevity. Altman never won an Oscar. He did not need it. Kubrick never won an Oscar. Lynch has not won an Oscar. Their reputations and their influence has not been tarnished by some award.
@@cactaceous totally right !!
oscars are significant and historically important, but they ultimately don't decide what film become 'beloved' and studied. At best they can help smaller movies gain popularity, usually they give praise do 'goody-good' movies that make us feel warm and pat the industry on the back. This movie came out at the peak of toxic-masculinity talk and it hurt it a lot. But people who've seen the movie know it's all irrelevant, it's gorgeous, refined and it's a compelling story.
Vicky Krieps should've been nominated for best actress.
100% accurate
Yes!
I was really confused when I saw she wasn't
*coughs* have you seen the nominees for Oscars 2018? with those powerful performances, her act in PT is not it, sorry
@@shotishoti9447 She is clearly better than most of the nominees, and I'd not shy away from arguing for her being the best of the lot. Better still was Lesley Manville.
I always look for signs that actors are acting and rarely, if ever, have I had such a hard time finding signs that they are in fact not their characters. I can regrettably not say the same for most of the 2018 nominees, or actors in general. Is there a specific performance you could name with better acting chops than you thought Krieps had?
Jonny Greenwood really is the real deal. A rock god and an awesome film composer.

The best film of 2017. It's perfect in every respect
Nikhil Kumar wurrrrrrrrd
The fight scene at the table, oh my god... Alma was so beautiful, and terrifying at the same time. Amazing beat that was.
Might be my favourite film right now.
Pta is lovely
Thread: what a masterpiece for the director, the cimematography, set design wonderful. What can u say about Day Lewis?: absolutely perfect. What an excellent film, i loved it.
phantom thread is a truly lovely film
Enjoy the jet ski, Mark
Elegance personified
These, this assembly of brilliant minds, operate at a very high level. Thank you for sharing it with the YT masses.
The score is mesmerising
Paul Thomas Ford Anderson
I wonder what he's doing with that jet ski?
Tate Hildyard giving it away to charity
something about him reminds me of kurt cobain
I can see that

@@al4prez13 they'd be friends. pta get him off that refer and encourage him to update his resume
@@Mr06261984 I think everyone wishes he would've gotten clean. But I'm sure him and PTA would absolutely love each other.
@@al4prez13 pta should cast cobain's daughter in that 70's high school film
You know who Daniel Day Lewis should work with next?
Quentin Tarantino
Kyle Campbell That'd be really interesting. Unfortunately DDL is now retired.
Let's hope not
Nah
He was an early contender for the role of Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction, which, of course, wound up going to John Travolta.
Hell no. DDL has another pedigree.
Came here for DDL and Jonny Greenwood and am disappointed
Waaaaaaaaaahh wahhhhhhhhhhhhh
😥
Yeah why bother listening to main guy behind the film.
It's funny and kind of sad how this bald asks silly questions to the creator of a maesterpiece like Phantom Thread
