Update: I had so many issues with this system about a year after it was installed, I paid a different company to come and put in a brand new non-Daikin system. That was a huge money mistake for me as it was not right for my house.
I have to say I completely agree with this review. I have had this unit for about two years and I have been very happy with the "backend" - i.e., the HVAC unit. I like the graduated fan settings, etc that the reviewer covered. However, the thermostat interface is another story - it is terrible! It features a weighted wheel for temp adjustments. A wheel interface like this is intended for situations where massive changes in value are required quickly, such as going from 10 to 75; not for small changes like going from 68 to 69. I should have up/down buttons that allow single digit adjustments. Yesterday, was the time change for DST. I thought I check to see if the time on the unit is correct. There is no way to simply display the current date & time. You can go to the screen that allows setting/editing of date & time - I don't want to set it, just want to see it. I called support. The way to to this is change the screen saver to show the clock interface, wait for it to go to screen saver mode and see what time is displayed. Good Grief! Sorry, for the rant but it's a silly design.
We were sold (1/2019) a complete Daikin system with the DaikinOne controllers (2). I was looking forward to having them. When the install was complete, there were two issues with these controllers. First, the placement of our controllers require a remote sensor. We previously had a wireless Honeywell sensor for this purpose. I was told Daikin does not (yet) have a wireless remote sensor and the Honeywell could not be used. We were told Daikin was “working on one”. In the meantime, the installers attempted to fish a wire for the Daikin wired sensor, they were unsuccessful. The DaikinOne controllers were installed and the system operationalized. It was soon revealed that the controllers were not following the programmed temperature plan for the day/week. We were told, after some research, that there was a known issue and Daikin was planning on releasing an update. In the meantime, the controllers were removed and “temporary” Honeywell THX9001R5029 Controllers installed. Supposedly, these were the only alternatives that could properly operate the system. Our old wireless remote sensor was reinstalled and paired with one of the controllers. Also, an outdoor sensor was added to the system, as the built in one on the compressor did not “communicate” with the Honeywell. It is now 7/22 and nothing has changed. I check back with our HVAC company about every 6 months. I have been disappointed with Daikin’s efforts at remediation. After watching this video and reading the comments, it does not sound like these controllers were that revolutionary and perhaps were not really ready for the market. Plus, development seems to have stalled.
I have this controler in my home, recently installed. My wheel also behaves wonky, just like shown in this video at 3:40. This is lame on the part of Daikin. At first, I thought it is just me, but now I see that all wheels have this problem! How did this ever get past the internal quality controls at Daikin? It looks like Daikin launched a broken product.
Hi. We have a Daikin and the thermostat. I have the app on my phone and my iPad. My husband does not have any apps and for some reason, he is under the impression that only one person can have an “account’ and be on the app. We used to have Nest with our previous system and everyone in the home had access to the Nest account via apps. Do you know anything about that? Also, we’ve had our system for about 1 year now (2nd summer) and our system seems to have a really hard time keeping our house cool or getting close to the set temp on the hot days. Say, we have it set to 73, like today. AC was displaying 73 setting and 77 in the room. It’s a small house too (1300 sq ft ranch) .. they’ve checked it out and everything looks fine??
I am considering this thermostat but its with the Daikin Fit. I am told with the three zones and Daikan Fit model you can only use the Daikin thermostat. So you are stuck with this thermostat and app which are still developing. This is the only thing holding me back from replacing my units. Thnaks for your comments
You can utilize a Honeywell thermostat with Daikin Fit and that’s it. Daikin Fit needs. Communicating thermostat, not a smart thermostat like a Nest which won’t work.
@@chrisbabolat2 not what my Hvac guy says. For my system. Three zones. Dampers three thermostats. The logic boards in the fit only work with the daikon one controller. If you have more confirming info on this I would like to have it. I may call Daikin and ask
@@henrymartin1931 I can't speak to your specific setup, but the Daikin Fit can be controlled with the Honeywell comfortnet thermostat. I don't know that it's any better though. My HVAC contractor mentioned it, and I also see reference to it here: airintelligence.com/news/entry/new-daikin-fit-heat-pumps-and-air-handlers
@@henrymartin1931 I can confirm that the Ecobee Smart Thermostat will cripple the variable nature of the Fit System. With the Ecobee, the system is either on or off, no variable fan speeds or expansion valve.
Will your system work as well without the Daikin thermostat? If you use a traditional tstat like ecobee all it can do is command heat or cool. This one is a communicating tstat that could send more info to the air handler like if you made a big temp change it could command full blast or lower fan speed for smaller changes and to maintain temperature. They might also coordinate across different zones. Do you know if it does this?
Look into the Honeywell CTK-04. It is a compatible and fully communicating thermostat. I suggest professional installation and programming but as an installer of such systems, I have seen many a first impression on varying thermostats. Overall, you will face more challenges inherent to fully communicating thermostats as a home owner doing it yourself but the CTK offers similar features with a better overall user interface. I must note however that the CTK doesn't have wifi built in and thus you'll need to have a Honeywell gateway accessory installed as well if you want app functionality.
My HVAC techs couldn't get our Daikin units to work with any thermostats besides the Daikin one. From what I've read, if you can get other thermostats to work you also lose the modulation feature & circulation features. Seems like you have to live with the crappy thermostat if you want to make the most of the units.
have these issues been fixed? I would hope they would release a firmware update.... the daikin one+ is a turn key system so there aren't any other options than this thermostat as far as I know as it's a "communicating" HVAC.
Only thing I wish would change about the whole setup. Maybe they can do a firmware update to add support. I encourage anyone who wants it to contact them on social media or their website to request it.
Honeywell ComfortNet CTK04 should work with Daikin Fit. The Daikin One thermostat isn't all that bed. There are some features that I wish it had but the Honeywell thermostat may not have them either. I almost always make changes using the app.
The FIT Air Conditioner needs the full communicating Thermostat as well as the full modulating Furnace otherwise you’re not getting the full features of these units1
Luke, You don't have a choice on the Thermostat. Your coil has a board and an EEV valve for precise adjustments, Your comment that you bought a modulating furnace the modulation range is 30% on lowest input to full capacity or 100% on. a nest or Ecobee style thermostat doesn't have the ability to give give all the information to use the furnace's many sizes (some say its probably about 200) So, if you bought the 2 stage 96% furnace you can use the One Plus or the Nest/Ecobee as these can call for 2 stages of heat. They can not ask for 200 sizes that your furnace (modulating 97%). Your coil you showed tells me that you have the Daikin Fit. This is also equipment that has many sizes. The factory specific Daikin thermostat tells the coil (that has wires and a board for precision adjustments to the refrigerant flow, meanwhile the thermostat also controls the fan speed to turn up or down as the coil gets information to use less refrigerant also, the outdoor unit is being talked to to pump less refrigerant. My point is that all of this is not in the programming other thermostats. Your thermostats are Communicating factory specific to your Daikin fit products. I just put the 96% 2-stage in with the 17 seer heat pump. I am very very happy with this choice. The only thing I am waiting on from the "research and development folks at Daikin is for them to come out with sensors to average temperatures from floor to floor or to not react to the temperature at the thermostat. I understand these are coming soon.
There are at least one other option. Though. I would have to pay for an expensive converter box to make it work. At least according to the company who installed my system.
Complete garbage thermostat. Terrible, non-intuitive user interface, unresponsive touch screen, and randomly-responding wheel. Screen constantly freezing during programing, requiring reset. POS. Daiken should be ashamed of themselves.

i dont think so, honeywell does have a thermostat that can replace this odd lookin daikin tstat, but i think is a bit less friendly use, complicated

I have this and I like it. Set a temperature and leave it alone.
do you know, does this work with apple HomeKit?
Not sure but it does work with Google Home.
Nope not currently

Worst thermostat ever. Daikin needs to allow other options for t-stat
I agree , the system is great, but the thermostat interface is a disaster.
Don't know why they would make a device that is modern and dated at the same time.
Isn't this a communicating system? You really don't have a t-stat choice in that case, right?
have these issues been fixed with the thermostat???? you cant expect to grow your channel if you ignore all the comments on your videos.......
Nope, no fixes.
Good luck finding another thermostat that works with your system.

I’m a kid watching
Wait till this freaking thing start to breakdown and it’s service time! Let’s know how much you’ve saved after all said and done. Good luck 👍🏼
Dude. Just get to the point.
