Generally because it took European musicians (especially British ones) to give the Blues its justified position, after its originators were largely ignored in the States. Clapton was one of the best playing it. Peter Green, for instance, was another one, but he was more a purist. Of course there was also the hype created by the "Clapton is God" thing and his friendship with The Beatles and The Stones didn't hurt his popularity either, I think. I love his recognizable tone and musicality.
I love Bluesville and always thought that it was better than Sirius. Maybe it depends on which one you listened to first. I don't think the merger hurt the blues component of satellite radio. I love stories about how blues so influenced all the good music of the sixties and beyond.
Here's a similar story - when i was in high school in the sixties , us VERY white boys loved James Brown and the Flames . Well , we got tickets to see Brown in Syracuse Ny and were out of our minds excited . We got to our seats sat down, looked around and suddenly we realized we were the only white boys in the entire theater . But that was soon forgotten once the music started and a hot woman about four or five seats from us jumped up in the middle of James singing " Try Me " and shouted out ! " i'll try you James , i'll try you right NOW!" What a fantastic concert that was .
I think it's because he was the first to play in the style he used to play... and he gained a reputation because no one had done it before, and the reputation stuck. I personally LOVE the stuff he did in Cream... his phrasing was awesome. I don't love too much of his stuff after Cream though.
Great vid... anything with BG (and BB, of course) is a home run, in my opinion. More, more, more!!! I also think Blues 74 was much better than the Bluesville is... Blues 74 was more old timey blues that I love listening to. Miss Bonamassa and the Chess show... but Bluesville is still good... better than the blues stations here in Sacramento (there are none!!!)!
@senator9870 GOT TO SEE HIM A FEW YEARS AGO AND HE WALKED THROUGH THE CROWD AND LET US TOUCH HIS GUITAR. PRETTY DAMN INCREDIBLE. GARY BUSEY WAS THERE BUYING DRINKS FOR EVERYONE . DAMN FUNNY AND A DAMN GOOD SHOW- STUBBS- AUSTIN,TX!!
I agree - bluesville does suck. I liked the old channel much better. I understand that they're trying to play contemporary stuff, but why aren't they playing the good contemporary stuff?Plus, you'll hardly ever hear those great blues songs from the 40s, 50s or even 60s when lets face it blues was at its best.
I just got rid of sirius. The classic soul channel has the same old stuff like What's Goin' On and Barry White's greatest hits. Stuff we all heard a million times. They advertise Tom Petty's show (which is great) and sometimes it's not on at the times they advertise WTF? The political talk radio is the same as commercial radio including commercials!!! Little Steven's show has too many crappy new punk bands. ROSIE O'DONNELL??? MARTHA STEWART??? OPRAH?? FUCK THAT!!!
I love Buddy Guy. What a genuine talent and wonderful man.
I know I'm 10 years late, but any chance I can watch the entire interview? Fascinating stuff
MAN, I CAN HEAR THESE GUYS TALK FOREVER!
What great interviews, Bill Wax and The King along with Buddy Guy! Every week I was listening to them on XM.
Best three hours on Bluesville. Thank you for posting and hope there are more video bites from this historic interview.
I've been listening to Bluesville a lot more lately... one of the great secrets of satellite radio!

man, this guy is so humble for a scale of person Clapton trying to match
Rory, Billy Gibbons, Terry Kath... Anytime someone asked him about being the best guitarist in the world, that was his deflection.
Priceless!!!
I want to play with Buddy Guy so much
I think it's because he was the first to play in the style he used to play... and he gained a reputation because no one had done it before, and the reputation stuck.

Legends
"I'm like a rabbit...you done th'owed me in a briar patch now!" classic!
XM bluesville was waaay better than Sirius version. But all in all its better to have this than none. Thanks Buesville
@cs808 They're both legends.
Jimi said a lot of people were the best. He also said Terry Kath from Chicago was the best.
I miss BB King Rip

I don't think anyone can argue that : )
I love BB's suit...classic...it looks like he's wearing polyester clam-diggers...
where can I see this whole interview
hendrix is buddy guy reloaded
I would compare Hendrix to Beethoven but I agree with your point.
ya but jimi said was rory was the best
@TrendyhendyPD: type in "buddy guy festival express" on youtube
I agree with you 100%!!! Sirius Blues was far better than Bluesville.
@krollaostmedburger clapton is good. theyre all good. theyre all legends.
"Bluesville" is okay but.... Before the merger, Sirius had the better Blues channel. It hurt my heart that it didn't make the merger.
Awesome 👍
@matttylove2 " its time for your medication,Mr. Love 2."
racism ist terrible but blues its beautiful
Mike Bloomfield first and best white blues guitarist
@rubysson57 exactly...

equals? no way.
even clapton said he tried forcibly to sound as effortless and smooth as Jimi.
rivals yeah maybe
but nobody is equal to a GOD
e
@Lizzardpeople I hope this isnt true

eric clapton is very overrated. Don't you agree? I have NEVER understood why people think he's so freaking good
Overall that’s why
The same for me after Cream, Clapton felt in a long sleep.
White folks killin' the vibe! It's tough not being able to dance.
This is key historical information especially about Mike Bloomfield he did help populariaze blues with a white audience
