A great review. I had both the SKX779 and the SKX781 20yrs ago. They were fun and affordable at the time. The 7S26 was a pedestrian non-hacking, non hand winding movement.
Just bought this model - it’s beautiful! I’m on the fence about the magnifier: I love it but it’s a bit unnecessary, also from certain angles it looked majorly wonky (it’s actually not I’ve checked lol). The ‘Save the Ocean’ Easter eggs just make it for me. Sharks fins, blue luminosity and a blue SAT once a week in the day window! Awesome. Definitely will take your advice on the blue strap - my next purchase thanks!
@@nicksss1843 Thank you Nick, but I already knew that. I have the King Turtle and the Samurai with this same stunning blue dial. I love that the shark fin isn’t obvious unless the person already knew, or they were really looking closely at the dial, and I also love that the balance on the second hand is a shark tail. There is a review of the Samurai “The Great White Seiko Samurai - SRPD23” that Bruce Williams did, that has sharks in the intro, and you can clearly see the resemblance to the shark tail.
@@Judas_Phart That’s great thanks I’ll check it out! I’ve got the Prospex Shu-Iro King Samurai and a Grand Seiko Snowflake dial, the SGBA211, but there’s something really captivating about the ‘Save the Ocean’ range. Have a great day!
Pin and collar with a female and male end to the collar. Little complicated to adjust at home if you don’t have a little bit of experience. Like mine, have the padi version. Wears small considering the lug to lug, magnifier is fine, you’ll get used to it. You wear the watch until you get your first scratch on the hardlex, then you pop it out and install the sapphire. Main spring went on mine two days after receiving it, clutch failure(?). Went in and came back regulated, with a new hardlex, and a polish. Love the new generation, previous generations not so much... Wish it had a 6r movement, only downside
That looks like the one I got yesterday SRPD25 and thought it was a regular monster. The special Monster is SRPE09 and had the penguin foot print and the silver bezel. Yeah, I’m now confused .
Check out the SPB051/53/77/79 watches in the 600-800 mark. Massively superior bracelets to what most are accustomed to with their department store/entry level Seikos.
Male or female? My wife likes the monster. She says look like flower😅. Anyway, l have 3. Two with the fangs, one being the Dracula and the SRP461K1 which came in Superior LE to 500 pieces. I have the shark in my king turtle..
Thanks for another top notch review FT. I think you just can't go really wrong with this watch. Okay, the double magnifier is a bit of a downer, actually I wouldn't even want a day complication. But it is what it is, and when you change to a sapphire glass... All good. And yes... To reduce the weight a bit and to make it more comfortable on the wrist (just my taste) I would attach a nice Seiko rubber strap. All right... Re-reading my comment... Maybe it's not exactly my choice 😂. Take care and stay safe 👍👋.
If you brought a new sapphire glass for it can you get it with no candy bar. ie will it do a Candy bar delete? if so how much does it cost for sapphire crystal?
Got the JDM in today. Bracelet is not press pins as he stated but Pin & Collar. Supposedly more secure but what a pain to size. All my other watch bracelets are screw links. Wish this one was.
Do you think it’s too big for a 6.5 inch wrist? I love the look of the monster and had a Orient Ray 2 which was close to 42 mm but I’m worried that by buying the monster it’ll be too big…
My wife likes the monster. She says look like flower😅 l have 3, the Dracula, srp461 LE 500 pcs, and the sbdc059 emerald green LE 1000 pcs. I have the shark on my king turtle. Fun watches indeed.
Great review as always, I noticed than in your review of the “blue lagoon” monster you mentioned that the bezel measures 41.5 mm and this one is 42.5 mm, is that correct? I have a small wrist and every mm counts!
it depends on where I hit it, at which angle. But I'd trust my newer videos over the older one as I started to measure it different now a days more accurate positioning. It does flower up. Check out my Antarctica or ninja monster video. I think 42.5 is the correct number.
Great video again FT. Those macros are nearly too good as they show up some dust under the crystal or on top of crystal too. No flaw will be left un-noticed but really helps to see the quality difference between a $400 Seiko and a $4000 version like an SLA43. Cant wait to see your Padi monster review as I'm considering a Monster to use as a daily beater, not that it deserves beater status but it looks like it is robust enough for many uses👌👌
Ohhh I recently finished the PADI...its a tough call but I think I'd go with the PADI! Yes the SLA or any seiko made in the GS Studio is really a step above even luxury swiss watches when I check under macro. Crazy good! but....$$$ I was very tempted to open up this monster and clean it out to at least to Longines level of dust. Which is what I usually can achieve with opening removing dust.....seal...macro..find more....then repeat. after 3 or so I get to longines dust levels. lol My current SKX Mod is now at that level finally. Its a real nightmare. You think you got it all and even with 10x magnification it looks gone. then some light hits at a different angle and you see some. of course naked eye will never see it...
@@EscapementWatch lol. Its the problem with OCD/perfectionism. Love Longines too and hope Kavar can lend some models to the channel. If I lived in US or Canada I'd donate myself but being based in. Ireland, the shipping costs would be as much as the watches :-) Really looking forward to the Padi upload and as always, your advice is solid😁
Check out the sector dial review I did. Its a beauty. it sold fast. A couple longines coming in the future as well. I can get almost anyone one I request.
@@EscapementWatch fantastic. I watch all your videos :-) Think I watched the sector dial vid during Christmas holidays. Its a gorgeous watch. Such great value for money too. In my opinion its the nicest sector dial in that price bracket across any major brand right now. Their Heritage models are amazing esp the Skin Divers
Cyclops never bother me never really notice. Don’t get the hate. Without it a date is useless cause my eyes can’t read the date on a watch. Yes my preference would be no date👍👍Seiko hello???

The balance on the second hand is a sharks tail, it is not a fin. Regardless, It’s still a nice touch. Love the monsters!
@@Judas_Phart There’s a hidden fin at 8 o’clock

enjoy!

That is awesome!
nice monster, appreciate the new bezel color and blue Lume . Thanks

Hi E&W. Can you do a video on watch bracelets alone? What you like, what you don’t like and why? Thanks
Seiko's bracelet game is lacking. No signed crown? Can we get ceramic bezels please?
Hmmm, don’t you think ceramic bezels look abit cheap and shiny? 🤔

I like the Monster because of the 15 minute bezel markers. The PADI version makes them even more legible. Many other Seiko bezels do not have this.
bracelet size? i think it would look good on a rubber strap
i have the padi version and it's my beater

The only thing that bothers me is the black bezel.. it would be perfect if the bezel is just stainless
Agreed 👍🏻

Yes I have wone and must say at first did not like it but now I tend to wear it most of the time and my other watches are in there case
If you can, make a comparison between Seiko monster save the ocean and Seiko monster Antarctica.

Yo FT pls review the PADI version of this monster... I'm having a hard time choosing between the two. Thanks brother!
Sure thing I will review the padi version
Are u sure the glass is not sapphire??
Not sure how you get really good results on these movements always, on the other hand I always get like 30 - 45 seconds Plus each day.
last couple we tested recently were not good results!
Didn't mention the shark fin in the bottom left of the dial!
I did
@@EscapementWatch You totally did! Nothing wrong with a rewatch is there.
Or you get the Oris Aquis? 😉
Seiko! Bring the teeth back to the sea 🌊 monster, please! 😅
Nice review! Thank you!
My pleasure!
I would prefer a stainless steel (silver) bezel.
The next sto monster will have a stainless steel bezel
Why no steel bezel version?
One is coming up
@@EscapementWatch Really? Did Seiko announce it?
No they didn't but I saw it.
@@EscapementWatch Do you have link to check out some pics?
Not push pins! Pins & pipes, as Seiko calls them. Most incorrectly call them pins & collars.
I have 4 monsters, but they are very overpriced. Iffy movement too.
Gen 4 monster no longer Looks that much like a Monster any more after Gen 3.... Gen 2 is still the most value for money and best specs monster.

Hate the fisheye. Seiko needs to fire whoever is responsible for putting that horrid thing all over its new watches.
I'm single 😥😥😥😥😥
no your not
I really want a monster but I don't like the coated bezel. Seiko please just give us new orange monsters with an uncoated bezel.
Steel bezel 4th gen is coming but blue dial.
@@EscapementWatch well it's something. Hope it lines up lul
