Ricky was completely right about Karl picking the jetpack activity. He did it just because he thought it'd annoy Warwick, but it immediately backfired. He's like a child sometimes; doing stupid things just to spite someone else.
And you can just tell, Warwick had a great time watching him fail 🤣🤣
Why would having a go on a water jetpack spite or annoy Warwick?
I remember when Karl (xfm) wanted to go to the effort of getting a job in a shoe shop, so he could tell a posh girl that she had "fat ankles" & put her in her place.
Pretty elaborate (& weird) way of making his point. 😅
@@bradders9743 Because it's something that he picked that he thought only he would get any enjoyment out of. He wanted Warwick to be stuck there on the boat watching him have the time of his life.
I don't know much about the specific problems associated with dwarfism, but Warwick's short stature might have stopped him from taking part in activity anyways. I mean, the jetpack looked bigger than him, and I'm not sure that he would have been able to get his feet down since Karl was having a hard time doing so.
Karl knows there needs to be conflict for the show to be entertaining. He’s worked in media for ages, he’s not completely stupid.

The balloon thing was actually discussed on XFM around 20 years ago when Karl told Ricky and Stephen how many helium balloons could lift a man (which according to him was 6000 balloons) and the three of them actually started discussing how they would do it with Karl strapped to balloons. Karl even seemed to be on board with it strangely enough. Eventually a few shows later Karl did a complete 180 and said he'd gone off the idea and that seemed to be the end of it.
Then around ten 10 years later this episode aired and (almost) gave everyone what they wanted.
If there were only 3 or 4 more balloons 😓

I've just had the best time, laughing at you, laughing at Karl. It genuinely cheered me up, no end. Suzanne is real enough. She's a good looking, smiley lady, who doesn't look suited to Karl, at all...and yet, they're still together.

As far as the Masquerade ball goes I assume there are rules of dress and etiquette when attending that means you’re not allowed to ask certain things like “do you do this often” or you have to talk in a way similar to how the character you are dressed may talk.

22:45 your thoughts are exactly correct, both aisling and warwick are intentionally setting themselves up to be the butt of the joke here. steven fry had a pretty interesting clip about it, 'THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UK AND USA HUMOUR' dunno if its react worthy but its basically confirming what you said, UK humour is very much about making the character the punchline, rather than the hero with funny stuff happening around them. peep show, inbetweeners, all of these uk shows exemplify this

Hi Mandy! I'm loving all of your videos, particularly everything Karl Pilkington related. Being from the UK I consider him a national treasure, and first heard him on XFM 22 years ago now! Needless to say I was instantly addicted to his craziness and have followed his career ever since! It's so awesome to see people from other countries fall in love with him too!

I think Karl and Suzanne are pretty much similar to me and my wife, friends call us Ice and Fire, it just works, we don't fight, we are polar opposites but we come together on the important things. I also think the dynamic between Ricky, Karl is the same because they came from working class backgrounds and made it and I can totally relate to that too, most of my childhood friends are incarcerated or dead, sorry to bring the vibe down, but it is not an uncommon story.

Warwick wasn’t necessarily correcting Karl’s behaviour at the party. It was more to do with Karl not being in character, which he was a supposed to be the character of his costume

I'd "do the pidgeons". I went to Texas once to "do the seagulls". just feeding them on Galveston beach, I had like 30 seagulls flying around me while I walked on the beach with food in my hands, and they ate from my hand. I love birds. I really loved that moment, one thing I also was amazed about, none of the seagulls shit on me

Karl is dressed as the lead character from the 17th century play Il Pagliacci. The clown is torn between the persona of appearing jolly and making people laugh despite being very miserable in his own life. In a way very apt for Karl. There is an operatic song called Il Pagliacci that you might like to listen to. Especially since you have a love of theatre.

I think Karl's costume might be one depiction of Punchinello from 17th century commedia dell'arte. I'm not certain though. It would be appropriate as Punchinello's aim was to cheer people up.

There's a good parallel here with the 'Mitchell and Webb 3rd Person Caeser'. Karl was trying to talk to the masked guests as himself, seeing them as people in costumes. Warrick couldn't get it into Karl's head that they were all playing characters, not dressup.

There are different types of bagpipes all around Europe and Asia and all of them have one thing in common: they are either made from the skin of a sheep or goat because it's already air-tight, flexible, and absorbs moisture well (from condensation from your breath). I have to say that I wouldn't have preferred to have one where they'd kept the head on it (a bit macabre), but they eat the meat from the goat anyway, so it's not like the goat would have lived.

Venice isn’t unique in terms of water in a city. NEVER heard of Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Bruges? These are some of the more famous ones, but there are dozens more of similar cities like Venice.
The main advantage of having a city like this used to be commerce, making these cities some of the richest in the world. Venice and Amsterdam both were the richest cities at one time because of the water. Having a way to easily and cheaply ship large quantities of goods makes a place highly desirable.
Now all of these cities are some of the most touristy places in the world. SO IT HAS COUGHT ON!

It's not about being decent or fair to Karl, it really is about making things miserable for Karl.
You can see from the start that Ricky was getting Warwick to treat Karl as the subject of their amusement.
The whole premise of the show is to entitle Ricky to belittle Karl.
There's no equality involved in this show, it's Ricky being mean and enjoying it.
Steve was in America filming his series Hello Ladies at the time i think. Because its a journey they don't have to come back to "base" each time. So he wasn't really needed

I love pigeons too me and my partner have 6 pet ones, 5 live in an aviary and one lives in our place she’s pure white her name is Cloud she’s very cute and lovely😊
6:20 Warwick means it's not going out of your way level, not that there isn't any hassle whatsoever - ie hard to adapt to but when you've lived there for years it's just the usual level you'd feel anywhere else. Re "it would've caught on": it clearly does (100s years old), it's just a result of geography that it's so like that, canals are common everywhere else but not to that extent.
The road sign meant Limited Traffic Zone...I had to look it up but apparently some vehicles are prohibited from using the road I.e buses ect.
42:12 "What was that sign?" As far as I can make out, it means "No motor vehicles - (road reserved for cyclists or pedestrians)"
Congrats on the pant/trouser differentiation. Just to add an extra layer of confusion, women’s pants (the undergarment variety) are known as “knickers” in the UK.
