- Risking cancellation, harassment and trolling by bigoted nutters and woke mobs, and who knows what else given the state of the country, Kunal Kamra and Sanjay Rajoura come out of hibernation from their social media caves to help restore balance to free speech discourse with a brand new show, Ye Bhi Theek Hai.
In this first episode, Kunal and Sanjay talk about the current state of Indian comedy - the meaning and purpose of a joke, the standards of Indian comedians, the hostile environment for comedians created by ‘cancel culture’, and what constitutes popular opinion and what does not.
They ask pressing questions, they seek compelling answers. Do they succeed?

Kunal has grown a lot as a person. Intellect shapes your personality. It makes you calmer and threatening at the same time. You can't piss them off quickly. But if you'll piss them off, then it's your responsibility.

Sanjay Rajoura when he speaks about caste, he admits his advantages of being born a male in a north Indian upper class family. His understanding of caste and their lifestyle and hence commenting on not just the social issue but also the political situation is brilliant.
It's okay not to agree with them in 100% capacity but they are still of of those voices, who follows the punch up policy. ✌️

first time in india, have i seen such attention to detail given to the production and design of an internet show. way to go guys, i hope this podcast does well... just keep it a bit more free flowing and un-structured (you can timestamp the podcast later for easier navigation) so that observations come organically. Plus i don't think the show needs a 'director' in general... just keep it chill

Two very different people coming together and having a discussion 🙌 I am not sure if stand-up comedy should be responsible for picking up issues that happen in our country, and put it into comedy. But at the same time, looking at this activist's work, I understand where he is coming from. Glad I joined you guys. Newslaundry never fails to impress. Keep up the good work guys :)
I didn't found sanjay's thought and take on things diverse. He wants everything binary....eg he dismissed all indian comics just bcoz they are not pursuing political comedy. Kunal on the other hand has perspective on things.

@@DriveDawn but where was satire.....all i heard was a person cribbing and canceling other just bcoz they are not doing what he thinks they must do. Most of us are frustrated with current scheme of things but that cannot be an excuse for letting go our rationality. Without nuance the argument becomes very shallow. Criticism is ok... creating monoliths and canceling is not.
Boss what Sanjay means is that India never had and possibly never will have George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle level of Comedian/Philosophers who will make us feel embarassed about our self who have reached 1000% and above level of Snow flaking and intolerance. A comedian sneezes and millions of Indians tweet about how bad his nose looks and gets angry about it. That is what he means and I agree

I am diehard fan of Kunal and hence expecting a higher value content from him. And newslaundry team you guys have taken a very innovative step of bringing light-hearted comedy discussion to bring some value and impact to society. I pray for your growth and success. For next generation to love our country, platform like yours should be a mammoth. Its a great relief to see Kunal talking. Also please consider one of my point, kindly check with Varun Grover if he can be part of this. Because the blend of Kunal and Varun according to me would create history. Please try to reach out to Varun and I believe he would consider atleast once.
Rajoura is the current me, angry and frustrated and sort of an activist. The new kunal is what I want to be, secure about your failures, but not stopping the pursuit. But for me the top social sarcastic speakers are Grover, vir das, Daniel, kamra, Sanjay and many more. I look out for every thing they put out. But we need more woman comedians in main stream

Good one Newslaundry. One suggestion however, when the there are references of third persons during the conversation (like in this one Bagga, Karan Johar etc.) it would be great if you can slide their photos simultaneously.
Good initiative Team Newslaundry & equally good analysis by Kunal & Sanjay. It's time Indian stand-up comedy needs a Dalit voice.
The current CM of Punjab Bhagwant Mann used to do that unpopular comedy in 90s like challenging govt..bringing system issues like electricity, school education, viting system, corruption etc

Felt the angst for the comedy scene, and in general independent voice in india. Inspired me share a thought on current scenario in India - They want "Ram Rajya" in india but have forgotten that it comes with the liberty for a common man to challenge the sanctity of the queen. And the queen without vengeance understanding a nation is bigger than herself.

Rajoura sir's science ki honor killing was the best stand up bit from an Indian comic I have ever seen
Agree to a certain point with Kunal that a standup comedian should not go on a gold hunt and instead focus on the content and stick to the the spirituality of comedy instead. Unfortunately, he's not aware of many of the southern standup comedians of early and mid-80's while he went on to mention some international stars who most Indians won't know. We still have Mr. S.Ve. Sekhar, Y.G. Mahendran with us. Mr. S.Ve. Sekhar has been an active politician also apart from being a comedy activist and has done much to bring social awareness among the people of Tamil Nadu and those who understand Tamil. Late comedian Vivek whom I had watched as a kid at Humour Club, Chennai was a

Good conversation, But I think Sanjay and Kunal are confused between "satirist" and "comic". A comic's job is to make people laugh, a "Saririst's" job is to show people a reflection of society by making satires and highlighting important issues in an enjoyable/humorous way. Both of them are Satirists and not Comics.

The present indian comedy scene is largely the sum total of secondhand narratives, vicariously expressed through a homogenous system. It's at a fairly nascent stage. Maybe three decades later, we would be somewhere. Maybe.
But, before we need Free Speech Absolutists. And right now, they have picked a side.
That’s because reading books has become unfashionable. Television doesn't teach you anything.
