    The concern of the barrel mounted bipod is about barrel harmonics. As soon as the round goes off the barrel starts to vibrate. If the vibration is out of sync then it could throw a bigger dispersion

    • @baronc252
      @baronc252 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      yea, I don't like barrel mounted either. I didn't realize how bad the accuracy drops until I shot at a local match from a barricade. It threw my rounds everywhere and I was pissed because it should have been easy hits to make too. Now I'm very conscious about not resting the barrel against anything. Now I make sure the handguard is mounted instead.

      I see half measures like this (binary triggers, bump stocks, whatever's legal at the moment) as peacetime training aids that won't get you arrested immediately more so than anything else.
      If you're at the point where you aren't worrying about plausible deniability anymore a full auto trigger for an AR is readily available from multiple sources online with no red tape because they aren't considered machine guns. Provided you're already using a full shelf lower (several companies sell these as their default, but the majority still go by the Colt civilian spec high shelf) the third hole is no more complicated to drill than any of the other trigger pin holes you'd drill out on an 80%.

      Belt fed machine guns might not be optimal for a small and highly mobile unit, though. I think this setup is pretty clever. You have the ability to fill in as a heavy and also the ability to engage at longer ranges if necessary. I live in the Sierra mountains and this setup would do me a lot more good than a belt fed. I know it differs for each individual, though. Just my thoughts.

      Russian AKM mag pouches fit 40 round PMAGs in them quite nicely. Three 40 round PMAGs per pouch if you remove the dividers. 4x pouches = 12x magazines at 40 rounds each, 480 total plus the 40 in the mag in the run for 520 total. Also I was thinking if you wanted to save some money one could use a 40 round pmag with a mag coupler so have 80 rounds on tap. • @ricksters11
    @ricksters11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I often hear and see people comment that the binary triggers are gimmicky and not really viable options. I have always held the opinion that they are actually a very viable option outside of the impossible to get for the poors' legit fun switch. Fire superiority involves increasing your volume of fire, accuracy suffers automatically (pun intended), having the actual fun switch is preferable, but the binary does indeed increase your volume of fire. This can be a game changer in small unit tactics of the civilian type!

    ACTUALLY, we can 100% own belt fed weapons, we just cant have them in full auto. Sooo, FN makes a civilian version of the 249SAW called the M249S. Its not cheap, and you have to buy the links seperate from the ammo and you have to put them together yourself, but a civilian version of the SAW is 1000% available to us. I dont know if they make a binary trigger for them, but if they do then that might be something to think about. The reason we dont hear more about them is because they are $10,000+ to buy. There is no NFA tax stamp or anything either, they are just crazy expensive. ALSP, there is a kit that is much cheaper that goes on your AR15 that is a belt fed conversion that is also super reliable. AGAIN, you have to buy the links seperate and put the belts together yourself. FN also sells the boxes for the SAW and the M16 conversion, im not sure of the price to have extra box mags, but it is available. I do know that the belt fed conversion can and will work with a binary trigger if the 249S won’t. Just some food for thaught there. Anyway, I like the setup, and maybe you can get your hands on a belt fed conversion for one of those rifles. It would drastically increase your capabilities in a SHTF scenario. Semper Fi devil dog, keep training, stay ready, and hopefully we wont have to fight…. but always remember, “Its better to be a warrior in a garden than to be a gardener in a war."

    Not that it really matters for a support-by-fire rifle... but a barrel-mounted bipod will negatively affect accuracy. most rifles nowadays are "free floated" which means that the fore-end does not make contact with the barrel to minimize the 'flex' of the barrel with inconsistent forces. However, like I said, for a support-by-fire rifle, there are much more important considerations... it's not a marksman's rifle haha

I also have a bolt and upper receiver that dissipates heat and friction unbelievably fast . I got a round cam pin so less friction. In my load out I carry 1 100rd double drum, 4 D60's in saw ammo can pouches on my over Plate carrier ammo assault rig that I had professionally made to hold 4 D60's as well as 2 double 30 round mags on the ends of the d60s. That I cam rapidly remove or utilize.. mind you this goes over plate carrier where I have 5 30rd mags 3 in front 2 on sides. Then have a 72 hr assault back pack where I stow 8 more 30 rd mags as well as other gear. For the trigger I had an FRT trigger. Damn shame though that I had a house fire and lost nothing but that weapon system. Damn shame. They should really outlaw fire while the government is on its inventing ridiculous laws that are serving no purpose except giving cops more ammo to use to violate our rights than some more. Our barrels are nearly a full inch thick and coved in an aluminum heat sink, which takes all the heat and thus the water is evaporating on the heat sink and not the barrel. That said, a barrel that thick is not effected by water due to the mass of the barrel, a thinner Government profile or lighter profile can be damaged when cooled in that manner. So in a situation where you need to rapid cool your LSW/Auto-Rifle Build, our uppers can handle the rapid water cool down and not damage the system or barrel.

    Curious why you dnt go with a heavier caliber or different platform for the LSW. My solution was a couple RPKs. Yes you lose mag compatibility with the rest of the team/squad but you gain a higher continuity of fire (piston vs DI) and a round that is going to do more damage on harder barriers.

    So……….. here’s my opinion on this. Go with a schmeisser 60 round magazine either alone or get a second one and tape it together and just run straight 40 round magazines in your kit while using the 30 round magazines in your backpack. Now if you want a new recruit to get in this method then I’d advise everyone within the group to get a binary triggers themselves or pool together to get everyone binary triggers. Unit cohesion is key in both gun techniques and supply as well as unit gear so that someone that has little to no training in an LSW can get on and ad lib just in case you’re down. NOW- if your lower is put together properly you can put another upper just in case your LSW upper breaks.HOWEVER- once you swap the uppers it’ll depend on what backup upper you’ve chosen that’ll dictate what role you’ll have. For me just having a 16inch upper is fine,BUT it doesn’t mean you can’t configure your backup upper to be a shorter version of what your LSW is. In other words you can change the platform from being an LSW to an IAR. Taking the role of the usmc m27 IAR, but following the doctrine that US SOF was doing prior with the mk 18 with it purely being a backup upper for house to house clearing.
    As for your plate carrier I would recommend using ak47 molle magazine pouches for use for the 40 round magazines. Also it is imperative to have at least good knee pads as you’re going to be throwing yourself prone bcuz once you party- all attention comes to you so you’ll have to make yourself a harder target to hit giving the dmr gunner time to pick out the ones commanding. It’s been what? 4 years of learning what I should mirror what a usual rpk-47 gunner does. It’s pretty much awesome at this point.

      @@WearilyMistaken to have your LSW function as a DMR at the same time, you would have probably no more than 2-3 guys in your fire team. In the army, it’s pretty well understood the most effective fireteam is made up by a grenadier, a saw gunner (LSW in this case), a rifleman, and a team leader. In the fire team, the saw (again the LSW in this case) is the most casualty producing weapon with its role being suppression and killing by volume of fire rather than “watch and shoot”. A DMR in stark contrast is a special weapon designed to eliminate enemy combatants through well timed and placed shots while not being overly cumbersome and its mission set is usually within 800 meters. So as you can see, you could flex the DMR role to the rifleman, the team leader, and even the grenadier before the LSW and still have enough fire power to effectively suppress and take down enemy targets.
