    Lol Just the other day I talked to a girl at my school and she said "Well I tried to go vegan but the only food I ate were peanut butter cookies. After a week I got really sick and my mom made me eat meat again so I guess the vegan diet isn't for me" And I was like ARE YOU F*&%ing SERIOUS.

    The Logic of this article:
    “Vegans dont eat meat so they have to eat more oil.“
    Just because vegetable oil(or other foods) is vegan it doesnt mean that vegans HAVE TO eat them or that omivores DONT eat them. Im pretty sure
    that most omivores eat more oil because they roast their meat and they don't care about their health anyway.

    • @klang180
      @klang180 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +J Morgan well I don't think any one person should be held up as the spokesperson for vegans so if someone says they're not vegan because of VG, DR or whoever then they're cowards who are looking for excuses anyway. But as a viewer I just prefer Mics videos.

    • @belive-cb8jp
      @belive-cb8jp 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      klang180 - yes the drama vegans need to grow-up. However, IF they're also SOLIPSISTIC they can harm many... They need to be confronted about the dangers of their solipsism...

    • @jbogan4987
      @jbogan4987 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      klang180 I mean you and I don't disagree, but it certainly doesn't HELP to have an enormous eyesore like that. Ultimately though you're right.

    • @ehall214
      @ehall214 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      124bel875ive variations of the word "solipsistic" seem to be the only text that keeps coming out of your device. You might want to fix that... unless that's a new word you have learned and feel that it makes you sound intelligent? Either way, that also is irritating to see, a word repeating over and over again, and caps being used way too much to be effective.

They are literally fucked in the head and don't want to confront it. Honestly it's very sad how stupid humans are in general. They don't even know what to eat they are that stupid. Fuck I feel retarded that I used to eat dead animals, it will haunt me for the rest of my life.

    Interestingly just saw at my university's faculty of health sciences faculty day a study where they measured the viability of osteoclast cells in cowpea digests and soy bean digests. They showed osteoclasts (which break down and absorb bone) were less viable in the digests of these plant based digests, suggesting bone degradation will be decreased on diets including them. Pretty cool

      Hey ;) I don't think it's embarrassing at all. Sometimes I have mock fish or chicken burger or mock pepperoni and I'm not concerned about admitting this in front of non vegans. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with having something with similar taste or texture to meat which is not meat ;) I mean, after all people like meat because of the taste and if you can have the cruelty free meat tasting meal why not have it? It's them that should be embarrassed for having animals killed for them to eat even if they can have same or similar thing without cruelty.

    Love this. On the B12 bit: in the past, it may be that we absorbed vitamin b12 via pond or lake water while we waded, or swam. B12 can be absorbed transdermally, so I think this is a reasonable hypothesis.

    Great video, as ever! I was wondering if you had plans (or maybe already have done) a vid on the effects of dairy using the latest research. I know many vegans are still using the "milk leaches calcium from your bones" argument (most recently in Australia, a well-known paleo tv chef used this and got shot down in flames by the medical and scientific community, making us all look bad) I'm having a hard time finding an up-to-date concise argument to replace this. Thanks Mic, love your work.

I've been hugely disappointed with the so-called vegan leaders not only staying silent about farm animal supplementation and B12 in water but even going out of their way to stress that animal products are (and always have been) the only way to get B12.

      palm oil is not the worst thing in the world if you don't mind wiping out the S.E.Asian rainforest. I mind. A lot.

    • @jefflittle8913
      @jefflittle8913 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is an argument for worrying mainly about "incremental suffering". Animal bones are an almost worthless commodity at the slaughterhouse. No additional animals would ever be slaughtered to create bone char. From my perspective this means that if two ethical vegans fell on opposite sides of this issue, both would be correct from a perspective and neither has a solid footing to criticise the other.
      Nutritional vegans, of course, are more concerned about sugar than bone char (and will criticize palm oil for being a heart-unhealthy saturated fat).

    Deforestation to accommodate livestock grazing is serious issue in the Amazon but also here in Sonoma county, Northern California - where we have a lot of dairy farms. We've been told to see the grazing cows as picturesque when in reality there should be trees growing on the mile after mile of bare hills that used to be beautiful and produce oxygen, and capture rainwater... sigh...

    Ok, THIS was a good video. Lots of objective, cited facts about the health benefits, there was a lot of empirical evidence to support it, THIS is a strong, compelling argument. More of this, less of the appeal to emotions & subjective / non universally shared moral baselines. This is a good and productive approach to take. Keep going with THIS.

    Thing with phytates, correlation is not necessarily causation (you know that) it could be other factors in the phytate rich foods good for bones. Also I think its clear that phytate rich diets lead to poorer Zinc absorption relative to low phytate diets. (*ok you mentioned that)

    I always laugh when anti-vegans say that vegans don't get b12 specifically. Because I was raised in a family that has eaten tons and tons of meat and I've always had a b12 deficiency. I don't know if that's changed because I haven't had blood work since the (recent) switch, but I doubt things have changed much In that regard lmao.

    Hey Mic this was awesome.. just a thought...
    Have you ever thought of doing a video on how you critically appraise scientific literature?
    Realise this sounds off topic in relation to veganism... but I'm sure there's loads of vegans out there would love to know how to break down the scientific research.. hierarchy of evidence, use of control groups, maybe even some basic stats (like what is a P value)... of course your viewers are a hyper intelligent lot, so I'm sure most of them would understand this stuff… But you explain things in such a clear and concise way i'm sure it would be fascinating for many.. cheers 👍
