When the music stopped, I said to myself , "What a piece of music." It is so moving. Kirk would be so proud. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment your orchestra and the chorus have given me. ♡♡
When I was 12 years old my family was coming back from Hawaii on the Lurelene ship and I saw this movie with my dad on the ship. 65 years later I can still remember the Viking boat drifting to sea and the Vikings shooting flaming arrows into it for the Viking funeral procession. This music has stayed with me through all these years!
Some of the best films ever made in the 50's and 60's and this is one of them with wonderful music. Love seeing these music studios performances is great. True qualiry
When I was 7 years old my Father took me to see this movie and it was absolutely amazing. This theme and he music was and is incredibly stirring. Thank you Tadlow Music.
i have seen the film so many times and love the soundtrack. but to see all these musicians performing it is out of this world. the first part is amazing but when the strings come in it just goes to another level of beauty. my new favourit youtube video.
the ending scene of the movie is where the viking funeral is what brought tears to my eyes and more so when Kirk Douglas passed away last year and seen the Viking movie last week.
The Vikings was my first movie score LP I ever bought while at school. Some years ago I bought the CD of it but this new score is a must.. Looking forward to it..
A great score to a great movie. Mario Nascimbene is one of the most overlooked and neglected film composers of all time. I hope the public will one day be reintroduced to his fine scores for this, Barabbas, One Million Years BC, and When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth.
Yes. His score for Richard Fleischer's Barabbas uses the "Dies Irae" plainchant throughout. The film is easily one of the best and most moving "treatments " of the Jesus story, with exceptional performances, design, and cinematography.
I don’t know, man, I can taste it, bit of a pine spear through my upper left abdomen, taste of pine, sap and iron. I hear this song, and I smell and taste that. Kind of strange, but that metallic thick smell in the freshness from the pine. There was a dampness on the field.
Wished that Kirk Douglas funeral was a viking one where they lay his dead body on a viking boat with sails, cast it from the pier in southern california and burn it from arrows shot by real vikings and this music playing at the same time. This is so stirring and haunting to my mind to hear this one.
Wonderful, marvellous! The recording and performances are as usual very high like in all the other tadlowmusic productions! My wish list for future new recordings would be: Solomon & Sheba (Nascimbene) The Wizard of Oz (Arlen/Harburg/Stothart) Walt Disney's Snow White & the seven Dwarfs (Churchill/Smith/Harline) Hope all three of them will come true
I have very little viking in me due to my German ancestry; 1/16th from what i was told by my cousin that took a DNA sample and believe my viking heritage from my German heritage goes way back into the 8th or 9th century.
Narrator: The Vikings, in Europe of the 8th and 9th century, were dedicated to a pagan god of war, Odin. Trapped by the confines of their barren ice-bound northlands, they exploited their skill as shipbuilders to spread a reign of terror, then unequaled in violence and brutality in all the records of history. Narrator: The greatest wish of every Viking was to die, sword in hand, and enter Valhalla, where a hero's welcome awaited them from the god Odin. Narrator: When the Vikings set forth to rob and plunder England, they never sailed out of sight of land. They confined their attacks to swift, overnight raids. It was not an accident that the English Book of Prayer contained this sentence: "Protect us, oh Lord, from the wrath of the Northmen."
You're right--I just checked on TH-cam. Does seem incredibly slow though. I wonder if anyone knows if the 'Original Soundtrack' is the actual film tracks.
1 minute 40 seconds into the track, and oh wow. The power, the voices and the memories of seeing this film. Thank you for posting

Outstanding - great picture, great score, great recreation.
Do you hear that?
It's the sound of Kirk, Janet, Tony and Ernie's immortality.
Amazing!!! Fabuloso tema de banda sonora del cine de aventuras de mi niñez, gracias Nascimbene por tan hermosa melodia
The score for my funeral
Mine too...especially as I have Viking DNA. Brilliant piece of music.

Einar (Kirk Douglas): [about Eric] The sun will cross the sky a thousand times before he dies, and you'll wish a thousand times that you were dead.

And maybe One Million Years BC too. What a stirring piece of music that is.
Odin!
Nice! Horn slightly sharp.
''ODINNNNNNNnnn...''
holy shit!
The Choir Conductor was more expressive and "into it" than the Orchestra conductor
WOW!
I'm proud of my Viking heritage, even though they were thought of as barbarians.
I'm English, but I apparently have Viking DNA. Puts a smile on my face 😊

And that narrator is none other than Orson Welles!
Sounds amazing! Whoa! Out of control warp stabilizer at 0:17. ;)
semplicemente...Mario Nascimbene
''HAIL, RAGNAR''> ''HAIL, EINAR''>>>''chip OARS''
Why so slow? I know it's a funeral, but...
Slow? It is played exactly like in the OST :)
You're right--I just checked on TH-cam. Does seem incredibly slow though. I wonder if anyone knows if the 'Original Soundtrack' is the actual film tracks.
@@pp312 I am pretty sure it is close . I have this on two VCR recordings and the disc.
Another washed out version of the OST
